Purple Drops

i just got enough merits to buy a recipe. i got a lvl 49 glimpse of the abyise (can't seem to spell it right) then went back to check how many merits it would cost to buy a purple.they aren't for merit sale? none of them? i thought the merit system was for the purchase of rares. seems the merit system cant get you one either unless if the random pick has them in it.then im wondering if the random pick gives the same chance to get one as everything else.i've gotten at least 8 of the glimpse/fear ones as well as makos bite at least 8-10, but 0 purples have dropped. is this the desired effect?is this the wav the dwevs want it to happen?

And I don't farm (except the Cimeroran Wall occasionaly, but that's so much fun it doesn't feel like farming).
This is so true. My old DB/SR scrapper went from just under 49 to a bar to 50 by grinding the spawns there in a single night. And it was one of the most entertaining things I've done while solo in this game. And I have no idea why. I've tried my hand at other sorts of farming but it bores me to tears. There's just something about the Cimerorans that makes them hella fun to fight.

Yes, purples are not and never will be purchasable with merits or tickets- they're gained by killing enemies in normal gameplay. This is entirely intended.

Purples are basically there to be endgame content for the tweak crowd who have to have the best phat lewtz, even if most people won't notice them. They're even more optional than the entire Inventions system- the game is still balanced around SOs, though they probably take IOs into consideration, and purples are meant to give decent rewards to the players who make the effort, through playing, farming or marketeering, to get them. But if you don't wanna use em, you won't be disadvantaged for it, and if you happen to find any you'll get a nice windfall.

I've been pretty vocal about this in the past, it's funny to see this near the top of the board so I might as well post. Just yesterday I dropped my second purple recipe...in now 18 months playing... Let's face it. You have to farm. What one person does or does not consider farming is another story. But I consider running paper mishes over and over again at difficulty lvl 4. my best bet when you solo. It's not a typical farm but the repetitiveness to makes it farming. Having teammates or better, geting someone to pad would help. Make sure you're not in SG mode, you get less drops. <- It was only until recently I discovered this about SG mode, if I had known I wouldn't have complained so damn much, my bad.

Uh, SG mode doesn't affect drops at all. And come next issue, you won't need padders anymore, you can set your mission to have the enemies for 2 people or 8 people or anything in between.

You sure? I've noticed a pretty significant boost in the number of stuff I've dropped lately, its nothing of big singnificance. More regular IO's and uncommon IO sets. But still an increase none the less. I can only speak from personal experience.

sg mode has nothing to do with drop rates. every time you log on your account is given a number, when you kill things their is a roll that happens. if your number is rolled you get the drop. that is how it works.

I'll say part of it's luck, too. I've gone for a month or two without seeing any, and had (at one point) three drop within two missions. I'll see them less frequently, of course, because I'm all over the place level-wise - if I spent all that time on one or two of my 50s, I'd see more purples just because I'm fighting more stuff that drops them.

To get purple drops, I reccomend equipping the following items:

-A lucky rabbit's foot
-Fluffy dice
-Lucky Charms (tm)
-Any other particularly liked tokens, coins or other trinkets

Also be very nice to fey, gypsies, black cats (including furries and catgirls), and gypsie fairy furry catgirls.

Well, if you are going to purple hunting...might as well be out of SG mode for that reason at you'll get more inf. I have to say I wish those type of drops came around more often, not neccessarily purples... just... y'know the good stuff. Yesterday was one of the few days lately where I logged off feeling happy and why my posts here weren't completely negative.

That's an incredibly rare event. Only the Rikti Heavy Suits are level 50. The rest of the Rikti Forces are only level 30. And yes, underneath the Giant Monster coding, game critters have levels.

That was just a coincidence. It definitely doesn't affect drops. If it started to, it would definitely be a (annoying) bug.

I *think* the bombs do as well, but my memory on that is hazy.
Your memory's not as hazy as you thought; Bombs and Heavy Assault suits drop lv 50 rewards.

But if you turn SG mode on, you'll get more Prestige, and if you're farming you're going to be getting lots of Salvage and Recipe drops that should at least make up for half Inf.
