"Great Tank" not so fast..

I was playing on my Invul/ tank project yesterday and after the leader invited a blaster he mentioned the team make.. to include (me) a great Tank. Although I try to make sure every baddie is focused on me it was the defenders that made it work so well. The Dark with massive to-hit debuffs, the Cold with defense and hp boost and the empath with all it's goodness.

So... great defending, defenders! It's easy for a Tank to look great when the defenders are too!

It's nice to see someone else's tank that recognizes defender goodness. I keep hearing how controllers are better than defenders but some controllers in how they play knock that idea round out the back door and across the garden. Why? Because they have an "It's all about me" attitude which you don't have and that is partly imo probably what makes you great.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

I agree, even Defenders that play as Offenders still seem to relish protecting a team if it needs it.

I don't really know what Offenders are, Defenders can have an attack chain and use their attacks, an offender would be someone completely lost in them.

Well, thanks to dual builds, many of my defenders are Offenders at least part of the time. I make group and solo builds - on the solo build, I don't need team shields, ally buffs and the like, so I can go with a full secondary and any buffs that help *me* - something I can't really say for most of my controllers (as I tend to want to be able to buff my pets.)

Admittedly, some Defender primaries are more suited to this than others (Empathy? Sonic? Sure. Rad, not so much.)

So, in any case, with dual builds you don't *have* to be "lost in them," at least not all the time. Take advantage of dual builds. You can bump up your solo strength without losing team ability - just visit a trainer and swap builds. (But keep an eye on your enhancements.)

I did exactly the same for soloing. You ever noticed that as a team defender you get invited to a team, help everyone else do their missions and then everyone splits leaving you to solo your old one? You may log and have a string of old missions to do that when you log in again and invited to a team just gets passed over. That was pretty much it with the empath.

Oh man, I'm so all over this. Someone was forming an ITF and needed a tank. Turns out they had all blasters/scrappers and a kheldian... I passed. With those cimmies and their def-killing attacks and nothing to help me out, I knew i'd be in deep crap.

Yeah, there are situations where I feel i NEED a defender or two to back me up. I'm not ashamed to admit that.

Oh, and Crimson demands you play this arc-> Twisted Knives (MA Arc #397769)

My sonic/sonic defender had my 5 best ITF completion times and it's no coincidence. Throw a competent tank, a /kin controller(which you can spit randomly and hit one), my sonic/sonic and any other five players that stay til the end and you'll have a pleasurable ITF experience.

I will not rest until we have in-game throwable pies!
