Creating a super-speeder.
Super Speed - Inv/SS - Tank - Costume: Teenager (Obviously this is before he could fly)
Although not super speed, I have the following based on travel powers.
Teleporting - Dual Blade/Inv Magic Scrapper Female with Robotic Arms (too bad multiple arms is not yet a costume feature)
Fly - MA/Regen Scrapper - Vampire
One of the things so interesting about this game to me is how miscellanous alot of the travel powers are presented as, when we can all name iconic and great characters from books with JUST those abilities to rely on... Nightcrawler, Angel, Flash, etc.
I know it's been done before. Show me your MA/SR Scrap or WP/SS tanker, or any character and concept of your guy based entirely around super-speed. Don't be ashamed of your slotted SS and sprint, please. It interests the hell out of me. |
Next! Elec/SR/Blase scrapper! He uses his superspeed to vibrate his hands to pull his natural bio-electricity when he punches. Also, he rubs his hands together to set them on fire in order to throw fire(Of course the concept calls for him hurting himself doing thing).
Sonic Resonance/Electric Defender, Able to pull his bio-electricity and firing it through direction, kind of like the scrapper. He is able to his his super-speed to vibrate the air around him to either condense or dispurse people or things.
I know, weird huh?
With love,
Me! <3

My sole speedster is a Fire/Kin Controller - it seems hilarious now that it's the de facto farming build, when he was made in I5, levelled mostly in I8 (i.e. pre-Inventions), and has been stuck at L16 since then (mainly because he was one of the characters abandoned when I went on hiatus away from the game in I9-I12). Since coming back I've mainly played redside, though I must admit I'm not overly keen with how Kinetics plays (as much as I love the set, it's just not for me), plus I'm not so keen to be labelled a farmer-in-the-making if I was to play it now
His bio is as follows:
Sunswift
Jason West was born with an unusual mutation; he can alter the vibration frequency of molecules. This lets him move at incredible speeds, but he can also speed up or slow anyone nearby. By vibrating the air molecules around him, exciting atoms to release energy, Jason can cause various fiery effects too. There is a price to pay for such power; overuse of his gift leaves Jason exhausted.
His powers first manifested when he was working as a clerk at a bank and a gang of Outcasts tried to rob it. When they threatened one of his co-workers Jason leapt into action, knocking out all of the gangers before they knew what was happening. Having always craved public adoration, the media circus following his first heroic outing persuaded the speedster to become a registered superhero. His fame peaked when he beat the hero Synapse in a race across Paragon City for charity, but afterwards the newspapers began to criticise Sunswift for loving fame more than justice. Now he must prove those criticisms false...
I did have plans to make an MA/SR Scrapper as more of a pure Flash/Quicksilver-like speedster, but I was somewhat discouraged by how long it took /SR to mature on my brute, so that may not happen now.
Although I don't have a super-speeder whose concept revolves entirely around super speed, I do have character who's only real power is teleportation, the seifuku-wearing magical girl Motoko Michi, Willpower/War Mace Tanker. Aside from recently adding some fire spells to her arsenal
(Pyre Mastery) her main ability is teleporting herself, her allies, and inanimate objects (like pulling her hammer seemingly out of thin air, for example). She hasn't quite mastered teleporting foes, but she's working on it (I'll take that power at 49).

Superspeeder, based on the Flash...
He also has Sands of Mu, so all his attacks are the super fast punches...

I would have made him a Super Reflexes Scrapper, but there's no hand to hand set besides Martial Arts, and it just doesn't look quite right...
This is my superspeed character. I used to use Superspeed in combat, but since suppression I was unable to play properly that way, until IOs. I used to use Whirlwind too, which was very much in concept, but when they turned it into knockback it lost it luster. I kept it anyway, until they made MoG good, I pretend the high defense is me moving very fast.

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
I can't create a speedster character yet.
The powerset I would use for it isn't live yet.
I'll get back to you when I16 is live. Elec/SR FTW.

Ace of Swords started off as a speedster with battery-acid blood that gave him electrical powers (an idea ripped off from Shocker in the V&V module "Crisis at Crusader Citadel") in a Freedom Force mod of mine.
He then became "Ace V" in CoH, and I made him as a Kinetics/Electrical Defender, since it seemed to fit. Unsupressed superspeed in combat via Siphon Speed, electrical powers and Sands of Mu and Flurry for speed punching.
I soon dropped Flurry the damage was rubbish, but used Sands of Mu and jousting with Siphon Speed all the way to 50. Tactics and accuracy IO set bonuses stopped me from whiffing too badly with it.
My main dissapointment as I levelled up was how Kinetics demands that you stand still in front of the enemy. By my early 20s I'd got the hang of ducking into melee range for a quick heal, but once I'd got Transference and Fulcrum Shift as well as Transfusion (and Short Circuit) all going it quickly became more effective to stand there and take a beating, relying on healing and end drain rather than running around confusing the AI. So the experient was kind of successful, but left me thinking that Kinetics is a highly schizophrenic set. All about moving but all about standing still too.
I havent tried a Scrapper speedster yet. Ive currently got a leonine scrapper Max Leonus with slotted Sprint, unslotted Swift and Hurdle and Combat Jumping who bounds around the City without a travel power, but he's really more of an acrobat/sprinter than a true speedster.
I can imagine that slotting up Swift too much and accruing too many set bonuses for a high passive movement speed could result in a character who's hard to control in some situations.
I have an Energy Blaster that I havent fixed the slotting on that was a speedster. Superspeed was slotted with full sets of Celerity and Quickfoot. Thats right. It's 6 slotted. :P
My run speed is capped with just superspeed, so I have hurdle instead, and it REALLY helps me get around. I also have the prestige sprint power Quick on while I run, so it looks like I have a ton of energy flying off me, and I'm hard to see because I go so fast (thanks to the stealth proc).
I need to change his build to only 3 slotted superspeed with just Celerity, and that'll get him at the speed cap and give me more room in my build.
