Need help with medieval outdoors base.
What I usually do is put everything Up on the second level and leave a hole in one of the squares so I can use the leveling system to place them around.
You can use the dirt piles, and slide the trees under them, so the base is hidden - and they also help make floors less flat-looking.

Make sure the area you're adding trees/plants to is one level above the minimum floor height. Then rotate your camera angle to view from directly underneath the floor. Place the plants in this view and they will be sticking up out of the floor with the lower portion hidden under the floor, allowing it to appear that there is no planter involved.

Awesome thanks for all the help. Really awesome.
With a little bit of practice, you can also adjust how deep into the floor you put the plants so that you can vary their heights. Place a safe (room details tab) from the underneath view. Slide your tree up the side of the safe to different heights and slide your tree to its final spot Two notes: keep the camera looking from underneath and don't touch the walls or it will pop back up to floor height. By varying the tree and plant height (4 different heights counting the lowest to floor level), you can get a slightly more forest-y feel. Use the dirt piles and the small cracked/mossy blocks (arcane tab) to hide the few edges of planters...
To do this, I slid the planters and shrubs under the floor.
It wasn't that tricky once I got the hang of camera angles. A character with fly really helps.
This is a bit OT but is something which was posted in Guardian and I have found very very useful. Maybe you will too.

Here's some shots of what has been done in our base. The first two show the "below ground" method of placing trees

Thanks everyone, I'll post screens of what the base currently looks like a little later today. but really I thank you all for your help.
Alright, new base builder type person here and I have a question. Alright I'm trying to place
to place trees, shrubs, etc. But I don't want it to appear as if they're in a planter. To explain what I am trying to do in further detail.
I am trying to create an out doors kinda feel. I already know how to create forts/buildings and build the small rivers/pools of water.
Anyway any help would be appreciated thanks.
