Animate Images
What was the image?
There's nothing specifically against animated images, though I would say that it's courteous to keep images small and mellow rather than huge and flashy. It's pretty much a netiquette no-no to post an animated image that has a huge file.
Some people are just naturally rude, and do everything they can to be mean to others. Don't worry about it. I don't.

Biggest Troll on the forums? I'll give you a hint:
It was this:
and this:
That first one is half a meg - not exactly nice to folks who are on dial up or slower machines, but it loaded extremely quick for me so /shrug. There's nothing wrong with the second one.
Sounds like a troll to me, just ignore it. It's not like it's your signature or anything
Thanks, everyone. It was part of the post about Positron saying that they'd be crazy to make an announcement before the weekend and I was making a joke that they were going to announce hamster wheel travel power.
I can understand if someone is on dialup and access the forum that it would take a long time to load, but considering you need to have an active game account to play and if they are playing the game on dialup, all I can say is God Bless Them, cause I could not imagine trying to play on dialup.
Ok, color me confused. After searching as best I can, I am not finding any guidelines stating that animated images are not allowed on the forums.
I received negative reputation for posting an animated image that is hosted at my personal Photobucket account, so I don't understand. The message on the negative message reads: "Animated forum spam graphics." Could I get a little guidance here please? I don't have any problems on other forums I post at that allow images to be placed in the post. |
As with anything, your treasure always has a chance to be someone else's trash and in this case the person let you know. I got negative feedback because I didn't agree that Thr Princess Bride was the best movie ever. Don't take it personally, but do be considerate of file sizes and how much room you take up on a page to limit the fuss.

Soom people just don't like animated avatars. I don't, they are are really distaracting to me and I'll sometimes skip over longer posts rather than have the irriation of having something in my periphial vision sending me on the verge of having a seizure.
Mind you, I understand this is a personal perferance and I would never neg rep someone for having one. But I do understand the impulse.

Yet another reason to abolish the rep system.

My apologies, I didn't read carefully enough. Well, the sentiment is the same, whether it is an a avatar or in the message itself, some people just don't like animation.
Of course, there is the ability to turn off images, which I do. Seems to me that would be much more productive than neg repping people out of spite.

As one of the few people who seems to be still on dial-up (live to far away from "civilization" for DSL and Cable and hill in way of Satellite) I've learned to liberally use adblock to screen out the excessively large (for me over 300KB) avatars, animated or otherwise (I've blocked a few over 300KB png and jpg files, is it so hard to learn how to crop and scale?).
The most egregious one since the forum move was over 12MB in size.
And yes, I currently run with img tags shut off. I come here to read, not to look at billboards.

Hey, Papa Christmas, do you report the folks with retarded-big avatars? They can be reported, cha'know.. mods have removed several gigantic avatars that I've PM'd them with links to.

Then I noticed the 20KB avatar size guidelines in the FAQ on the old boards simply vanished one day. When there's no guidelines, then how can you say someone is abusing it?
Note, there isn't any size guidelines for avatars on this board's FAQ either. And the sig image guidelines, if you can call them that, is only found on the non-functioning sig image upload section that's disabled anyways.
I'll still report avatars that are offensive or are simply yuck (animated gif of thumb impaling on a nail so the thumb nail is torn away, for example).

The Mods were extremely grateful when I pointed out an Avatar which had caused riots and calls for murder that was being used on the forum.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
