ELM/SD - Scrapper vs Brute

Right now, on Live, I have an Electrical Melee/Shield Defense Brute. I made the character, got it to 3, and then left it, while I worked on other things that I wanted to do.

When we learned that Electrical Melee was to be proliferated to Scrappers in I16, I continued to leave the Brute sitting there, because I figured that since Brutes have Fury, but Scrappers have Critical, the Scrapper would end up out-performing a Brute.

I'm not really sure, though, so I figured I'd ask the players.

Which will perform better in the end, an ELM/SD Brute or ELM/SD Scrapper?

I'm more interested in what performs better solo, and without the benefit of IO Sets and their Bonuses.

Thanks in advance!

I'd say the numbers will be pretty close but I know the number-crunchers here will probably prove me wrong.

What it comes down to is which side do you want to play? I'm getting a new (my second, the first made it to 20) dominator when I16 hits so you won't be left alone.

Solo i'ld say the scrapper since you dont have to maintain a high level of activeness to keep your strength high. Without outside buffs/enhancements this could be a problem for a brute.

A scrapper on the other side can go at your own pace and will constantly have a high attack chain. So in standard missions i'ld say a scrapper would win hands down, however against longer fights against EBs and such then the brute would come out on top.

[all of the above is based on solo play as you said]

Against all odds (and build-up) add proportionally more damage to a scrapper than a brute. However, both lightning rod and shield charge have the same base damage on both archetypes, so they'd be more likely to do more damage on a brute due to fury. Neither crits, as far as I can recall. Shield doesn't make use of the brutes' higher resistance cap, so there's no survivability difference beyond brutes' higher base health.

Brutes are still, as always, faster at low levels due to the combination of fury and the way attacks scale at different levels.

A scrapper won't suck, but the combo leans towards benefiting brutes more.

Given that the base damage for brutes, tanks, and scrappers is the same on Shield Charge and Lightning Rod, the best build might actually be the tank. This takes into account the easier ability to softcap, given the higher defense modifiers, allowing a build without weave, which allows for more offensive powers.

The brute will probably outperform a scrapper due to the fury mechanic as it guarantees each time you fire SC and LR you'll be capped.

I was looking forward to a ElM/SD scrapper until I realized the base damage was the same.

Having a lvl 50 ELM brute I would say that the scrapper would do much better as the benefits from crits outweigh fury, especially since ELM is more geared towards taking out mobs vice bosses. Don't get me wrong in that my brute lays waste with full fury and its easy to get and maintain, but its frustrating to hit a boss and have them look at me with a 'was that supposed to hurt' expression.

I don't think you will notice a substantial increase in single target damage from an ElM scrapper, especially since I believe both Lightning Rod and Shield Charge will not crit.
