Please run this file for us: CoH_Helper

There were a few driver versions that don't work well with CoH. It's possible you have one of those, and a simple update might fix you up.

Talos_M: upgrade to Vista SP2 (you're still on the basic, no-service-packs-at-all generic Vista), then try again.

Talos,

Upgrade Vista to Service Pack 2. Use Windows Updates. You may have to install several updates and reboot and go back to Windows Updates more than once to get Service Pack 2 to show up. Since you don't even have Service Pack 1 installed, I've no idea how many updates you'll need to do in order to get SP2 to show.

Upgrade your Video Drivers. The 186.18 drivers were one of the drivers that caused this problem.

Your C drive is very low on free space, that can cause more problems for Windows and the swap file. Move what you can to the other drive or just clean up unneeded files.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I'm having the same problem with a brand new computer, and I am running SP2.

Chariot, upgrade your video drivers. The entire 186.xx series of drivers were problematic with CoH.

I keep trying to but when I do I get a message saying that the drivers are the latest. I downloaded the Vista 64-bit 190.62 drivers. The messages is "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

Download and install DriverSweeper but don't run it yet.

Uninstall your current video drivers.

Boot into Safe Mode.

Run DriverSweeper and remove any nVidia Display Drivers or Video Drivers it finds.

Reboot into Windows normally. Cancel any automatic driver installations.

Run the setup program for the 190.62 Vista 64-bit drivers. It does list the GTS 240 as a supported product.

On a side note, I must admit to being a bit jealous. I bought my XPS 435MT in May and didn't have the option to go to an nVidia video card, only the ATI HD 4850 as an upgrade option then.

I'd have jumped all over an nVidia upgrade if it had been available.

Sadly, its a no go. I did as you said, booted into safe mode, ran DriveSweeper, rebooted, ran the driver setup file and got the same error.

Very peculiar. Also odd is that if I go to the Dell support site it lists no drivers for that video card, although I can see it if I try to configure a system.

I looked at the 185.85 driver page, but they don't list that card as being supported so I don't know what to suggest at this point.

Maybe put in a call to Dell support to see if they can find a way to get the drivers updated? I think the GTS 240 is a fairly new card since I hadn't seen it mentioned in any previous driver listings.

Perhaps one of the nVidia guru's will have a suggestion to resolve this. Sorry I can't be of more help than identifying the problem.

Yeah I tried downloading a couple of the older drivers but neither of them said it was compatible with my card.

I've been chatting with Dell support and having a hell of a time with them.

Thank you very much for your effort.

What you need is laptopvideo2go. These guys take official drivers and modify a special file that tells it what GPUs are compatible, then release them as ready-made laptop drivers.

This file is literally all that stands in your way. All nVidia GPUs use the same driver, and that file tells the driver what it can and cannot install on. Changing it is easy; but thanks to laptopvideo2go, you don't even have to do that.

Necroton, thank you! That finally worked!

For anyone else having this problem, this is exactly where I went -

http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/top...-64bit-nvidia/

Downloaded the driver and extracted its contents, then downloaded the INF file and replaced the one in the driver folder, installed the driver, rebooted, and presto! I've now got the 190.62 driver and CoH runs like a charm.

Thanks again to everyone who supported me through this trying time.

also i have updated to the SP2

good thing this is just the test server if it was the other servers i would be a very unhappy camper , but i like the Test server as well to check out all the new toys and plan for them on live hehe.

thanks for all your suggestions to fix these problems.
