All my screenshots come out all black...
Check your City of Heroes folder (normally under C:\Program Files\City of Heroes). There should be a folder in there called Screenshots. Look in that folder and open up your picture, are they still coming out black?
I am trying to screenshot the character list, not actual ingame stuff.
My ingame stuff comes out normal just without the UI.
Am I doing something wrong to take a normal screenshot of the character list? I am hitting PrntScn like I would any other time.
I apparently type slower than "TheGameBug".
So, do you have a different image editor, Photoshop or somesuch, to try?
Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas
Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.
No just paint >.<
Is there any free thing out there? I have no clue
I'll go look
Not really necessary, just trying to narrow down where the problem lies.
Can you paste a screenshot taken in-game into paint normally, showing the UI and such? i.e. it's JUST the "choose character" screen that doesn't paste?
Drat, time to go to work.

Wth is this problem
I just download and install program called GIMP. It actually looks like an awesome picture editor. Cept my stupid pictures from the game are still coming out all black.
ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
PP, this a known issue with Vista, the screen shots just come out black sometimes. Vista has a tool called the snipping tool, you might want to give that a try instead of the games screen shot ability.

The screenshot is failing when it's being copied with Printscreen. It doesnt matter what editor you paste the image into. It's still going to come out black. Yes, GIMP is a great image editor, but we need to get your picture into the clipboard correctly first.
Try this: Vista Clipboard Alternative: Snipping Tool
Some Vista users have reported that they cannot get their Clipboard to work correctly from a City of Heroes screen. They often wind up with a blank screen that gets pasted into the destination program. The solution is a program that comes standard with Vista called Snipping Tool which can be found under the Accessories sub-menu of the Start button's list of Programs. The Snipping Tool actually gives better control of screenshots because it has features such as highlighting just one area of the screen to take a snapshot of. |
Ha, beat you by a minute Mateo!

Install or Enable Snipping Tool in Windows Vista
Here’s how you can reveal the Snipping Tool in Windows Vista, if it’s not yet enabled in your system: 1. Click on Vista Start button, and go to Control Panel. 2. Click on Programs link. 3. Click on Turn Windows features on or off link. If User Account Control pops up for confirmation, click on Continue button. 4. Scroll down the list of features in Windows Features dialog window, tick the check box for Tablet-PC Optional Components to enable and show the Snipping Tool in Vista. 5. Click OK when done. |
ok ty.
doin it now.
Has anyone been able to work around this on Windows 7? Since upgrading to Win7 I can't find a way to get working screenshots of things like my enhancement screen or costume editor screen, because the game screenshot key doesn't work there.
I've tried the Snipping Tool, as well as suggestions like this, to no avail. I get a black screenshot every time.

You could try FRAPs, it has a screenshot mode (don't recall how it operates in the free version). It's possible it's related to a driver issue, so upgrading your video card's driver might help.

It doesn't seem likely to be a driver issue. I'm on the latest WHQL driver, and have been through a couple of releases, and it doesn't change anything. I'm using a modern NVidia card, so it's not like it's a non-mainstream configuration, especially for CoH.
I guess I'll have to look into FRAPS. What a PITA for something that used to be so simple.
