Help with AVs

Hello Corruptors!

I have several characters that I can solo AVs with, including a few scrappers a Mastermind, and a Blaster who has had limited success. I wanted to try out a Corrupter since they have a reputation as being so good at this sort of thing but I am running into a wall.

I rolled a Fire/Rad and was able to get him kitted out this last weekend. I'll post his build at the end of the thread. I'm really struggling to down AV though. I am getting held,slept,mezzed, a good bit. How does one cope with that? I realize I could eat Break-frees but was kinda hoping to avoid inspirations. The character is softcapped to range (well, almost, I figured RI would take care of the last 3%). I also seem to have a problem getting hit a lot. Maybe it's just the enemies using AoE attacks or something but when I load up a Quarry or a Crystal GM in AE they are wasting me. Checking the combat log show their To Hit chance at 87%!

What am I doing wrong?

Initially I had planned to use the immobilize in Black Scorpions patron to lock the AV in place but the animation is so long I hate doing it. It does work though and one application of the web will ground fliers so that's nice.

I have been successful against Infernal and Black Scorpion and one other, which I forget. I have been beat down by Viridian, Scirocco, and Woodsman.

Looking at my build I realize I need to reslot Lingering Radiation. I didn't realize it required a To Hit check so I'll fix that. Most likely stealing the slots from Web Cacoon and dropping that power altogether in favor of something more team friendly. I don't expect doing so to really help with AVs/GMs though as survivability seems to be my main problem.

Hmm. If I recall Viridian is a MA scrapper, so there's a built-in To Hit bonus there on almost every attack. Scirocco has at least one crazy ranged AOE attack. And Woodsman is just a b-tard in almost every way shape or form.

I'm not sure why the Quarry or Crystal are getting such good results against you. Are they even level to you?

On my Sonic/Rad AV killer i run both the 45% plus what RI adds in -hit, I always thought AVs/Heroes had that little bit extra chance to hit you and thus it would take care of that.

I have problems with mez every now and then, why i cant do the scrapper challenge on him at the moment but have had no problems downing a Pylon, Mako, Synapse, Bobcat, Agent Indigo and Babs.

Your Status resists are way higher than mine so i would up you Def to the cap and prevent more of the mez from landing on you.

If survivability is your problem I'd recomend going Mu Mastery instead, grab Charged Shield and slot it well. Stacked with Tough, you'll reach pretty high numbers of S/L resistance which will help you take down those DE GMs. Also keep in mind that DE GMs are the second hardest GMs to take down.

Try Scrapyard and/or Kraken, those two are accesible through AE. Then try easier AVs like Praetorians or Council, before going in and play with the big boys (Woodsman is rather dangerous no matter what). That way you can get more familiar with fighting AVs with a corr

On my Fire/Rad (Controller) I don't get mezzed that much, but when I do I usually survive due to AM greatly reducing the duration, spamming my heal then retoggling my debuffs

Hi PF.

I have a Fire/Rad which I'd originally intended for PvP, but got the idea to try AV soloing with him. I didn't think very highly of it though, and specced it for PvP again, and now it's collecting dust as PvP is currently such a ridiculous exercise.

I'm presently leveling a sonic/traps corruptor with an eye toward AV soloing ability in the endgame.

But to stay on topic... I'd look at hitting softcaps without RI, and then possibly even dump the power altogether. AVs and GMs resist RI so much that whether it's worth the endurance cost is debatable. Then you get mezzed and have to spend 3 seconds retoggling that one questionable power? Bah. You can floor their to hit chances and cap your own without RI, and that's what I'd do. Skip it.

Make sure you keep EF though, as those debuffs are perfect vs. AVs (and it only takes a second and a half to retoggle), and slot up LR for accuracy and a bigger overlap (i.e. a couple seconds would be lots better than a split second).

Also, Acrobatics protects you from a single hold; with perma-AM and softcapped defense, that should be enough that you'd very rarely get held. It wouldn't help against stuns and sleeps though.

Try to get Hasten and AM permanent if you can. Downtime on AM could lead to a long mez and you want to avoid that.

Also, I'd look at taking a patron pool with a resistance-based shield. Basically any one but Black Scorpion... unless you wanted to softcap S/L instead of ranged, and then fight exclusively S/L enemies. Scorpion Shield would make it very easy to do that.

Re: 87% chance to be hit by GMs? Yikes. It sounds like there was a Quartz emanator at play in that scenario. Since it was an AE mission, were there lieuts in the area?

Ranged attacks used by DE GMs check against AoE defense, even though [Crystal Shards] says ranged ingame :-/

I only have a second, as I am stealing a minute at work but I have a big question.

Many of the suggestions here are to dump Black Scorpions power pool. I was under the impression that since I have already chosen his pool I was stuck with it. Is that not right?!? Please tell me I'm mistaken. I'd dearly love to dump that for Mu Mastery!

Post Issue-13, you can respec from one patron pool to another like respeccing between anicilarry pools on blueside.

OK, I'm changing my focus on this guy just a little.To be more team friendly I've picked up a few more powers that will help with large groups. I opted to keep RI for this purpose and the fact that, against mobs that don't resist, it soft caps me to all positions. I'm really enjoying him much more now.
