Hows PvP these days?

Well just managed to get into the arena. Tested my Ill/Rad, MA/Regen and Rad/Psi out.

Apart from not being able to kill a BS/WP scrapper with my psi damage I really didnt find suppression to be so aweful and it still seems possible to kite (just as well as I could almost be one shot by BS).

I guess I just need to see how RV is but so far it honestly doesnt seem that bad.

Did you have suppression turned off as it really should be noticeable?

Are the old names like Tainted Greek and Filth still about?

[/ QUOTE ]

There are quite a lot of old people still about in general (couldn't tell you as far as PvP as I don't bother anymore), but Filth unfortunately isn't one of them. He usually pops back during any free activation weekends, but doesn't keep a sub going anymore.

Did my last AT combo Rad/Psi defender ever catch on and is it any good now for pvp?

[/ QUOTE ]

Rad/Psi did have a bit of a day in the sun, but it never seemed to catch on in a huge way. I have one over on Defiant and used to come out of base raids with higher numbers of kills than the Blasters - got a screenshot somewhere with her with the highest kill total for a raid, gave me a good giggle. I've not tried her in PvP since a point when I was doing base raids, which probably should tell you how much of a clue about how she'd handle now.

My general take on PvP now... to my mind, it doesn't honestly feel a whole lot different. The main problem I always had with PvP was that I tend to play villains, and the moment I stepped into RV and killed someone, 10 heroes would show up from some big SG or other and gank, then sit outside of the base. The only times I've gone in post-I13, same thing has happened, except I have a better PC now that doesn't lag out when 10 people attack me so I get to see myself die. I realise if I had the patience I could sit around until things evened out, or if I had the time and will I could get more seriously into PvP and do the same back, but as a fun diversion that doesn't need any planning, it's a bit of a failure for me. The zones were at their best, in my mind, at a point when there weren't a lot of organised PvP SGs, and it was more a case of getting a couple of thrown-together PuGs going in Siren's, and learning to work together. Or when you'd end up with a few solo or duo people against each other in RV.

I should really return to the arena and see if I like that any better now, as I used to avoid it due to all the glitches, but there has been quite a bit of work on it.

Oh, keep diminishing returns in mind as you make any PvP builds, by the way. I believe it applies to set bonuses from IOs, total defense, and all sorts. I wouldn't have the beginning of an idea on how to build a toon for PvP these days, I'm sure someone around here can if you're still wanting to give it a go, though.

"Did you have suppression turned off as it really should be noticeable?"

Sorry I havnt a clue as I didnt set up the games and didnt know to ask, in fact Im not 100% sure if I know what you mean. If there is a choice then does that not mean arena can be fought on the old suppression rules? Still a lot I need to catch up on.

What I do know is that I have slotted SS and SJ on my toons and was outleveled by 10-26 levels and could still not be killed by melee. One BS crit with buildup could almost kill me but I could always get away and heal up. The slow effect on lingering radiation didnt seem to be working nearly as well as it used to though.

I always used to hop about like zebedee on speed to the annoyance of some folk and same happend here with us giving up in frustration. I didnt however just run away I did try to kill him, just couldnt get enough damage out.

That was ill/rad and rad/psi vs BS/WP. One thing is that this was without epics so weapon mastery didnt come into play which would have changed things but then it always would have done. DR on heals didnt seem to hurt much.

Playing MA/Regen vs Mind/Kin to see how mez was it was quite easy for me to stick onto the controller and keep him grounded most the time with axe kick. 1 second immunity on teleport foe was annoying though as I had to then wait before doing axe kick, crane kick.

End of the day though my psi and illusion sets didnt seem to have the damage to kill anything. Whilst before I did fine with my ill/rad with willpower scrapper fully debuffed, all pets out and throwing in everything my end and PA ran out with him on 50%, no insps used.

Willpower wasnt about when I played but this was never the case before vs other scrappers. Likewise Mind/Kin didnt seem to have much chance vs MA/Regen.

I think this is due to my tendancy before to go for sets with very fast activation times which now do less damage due to changes. Annoying but at the end of the day just comes down to adaptation I guess.

"come out of base raids with higher numbers of kills than the Blasters - got a screenshot somewhere with her with the highest kill total for a raid, gave me a good giggle"

Nice1. I remember the first time I tested rad/psi in SC I got 50 rep which I thought was pretty nifty on a defender (probably means nothing now).

Yeah I think organised pvp SGs were far better suited to arena as in SC it usually ended up with a group of heroes turtled near villain base. Sometimes fun though as I would then log out and get my spines stalker on to try to kill the folk Id just been teamed with.

So villains are outnumbered in RV now? Was thinking of making a Bot/Pain MM with taunt for a laugh, maybe I could come help you out a bit... if I ever get him leveled.

Got meself Mid's Hero Designer v1.4 and trying to plan out builds a little (dont know how accurate it is they usually had a few things wrong). Was thinknig nec/storm MM but its been done.

Think Fire/Fire scrapper and Bot/Pain this time round. Are there many of those out there?

P.S. OMG I really do have bad verbal diarrhea.

As knightstalker says there was very little reason to have such sweeping changes in the first place.

Its Castles testbed for "COH", as in PvP and PvE, mark my words. He just lacked the confidence (rightly so) to push this garbage through onto the PvE game. As they didnt give a poop about PvP players anyway and was too small a demographic to make a huge difference in subs, PvP got the dubious honour of sampling Castles delusions of what "fun" is. It was admitted by Lighthouse (US Board Mod) that the changes were NOT for PvPers and a gigantic poopstorm went off both inside NcNc (as they were named that week) and on the boards, then Lighthouse got "invited to pursue opportunities elsewhere" for his candor.

I would honestly like to know how dedicated the developers are in correcting this as there are many factors that could make CoX one of the leading PvE AND PvP games.

I think it was Jabbatron who said he was very happy with PvP the way it is now, shame the people who pay to play it dont think so.

Still as long as he's happy...

That's not quite correct - he said it wasn't expected to appeal to the current PvPers - the idea was to make PvP more accessable to newer players, so this meant reducing the ability to be uba leet

And the idea failed miserably.

Anyway why nit pick, what Stalky said is basically right.

Not true at all, you are placing your own inferrence on the subject and presenting it as fact. It was stated that the changes were not for the PvPers, no mention was made of past, present or future.

But not totally right - he made it sound like the changes weren't designed for PvP, when they were - but just not for the pre I13 PvPers.

again thats your inference, I would say that your veiwpoint is not on an even keel with Paragon Studios and Ncsofts.

We knew that the current PvP community wasn't likely to react well to the changes as they wern't who we were making changes for, so it's understandable that there is continuing complaints from that segment.
