Must admit I do like your flat sytle stuff, but it looks to me like this is shaping up very nicely it already has the feel of a real painted piece. Looking forward to seeing how it progesses.

Third bit of progress. This is as far as I'm taking this one - it's been a very interesting process (at least for me) to soo just how the combination of the Tablet and the paint-y program work together, and hopefully, having learnt a lot doing this, the next will be better. What I think is needed is to treat the piece like a 'proper' paint on canvas piece - something I literally haven't done since art school, so that's what I'll do with the next pic.

Awesome Doc love the real painted feel of it and looking forward to seeing another piece! Must admit I have ArtRage but haven't really used it, feel the need to have another look at it now

Still struggling along with it, but I suspect I lack the patience.
I spent more time on the inks for this fella, including liberal use of the airbrish in Photoshop to sort of cheat in some of the darker tonal areas on the face. The rest of it's all done in ArtRage, with a couple of custom stencils used as I've just noticed them...

I'm trying to do a 2-page strip using a combination of two styles - my wobbly line stuff and the more recent painty style. Panel One done, and is shown here, at about 66% of final size.
I'll be updating this page as I go along, and hopefully I'll be able to both see how I'm doing, and react to opinions and crit of it.
I'm not really sure about it yet, I think it's too early to tell.

It looks really good so far, but as you say maybe too early to tell. How do you feel about using this style? Are you enjoying the new process, is it too time consuming (ect)?

I'm kind of enjoying it, but it's taking an awful long time to do each one. Perhaps after some more practice I'll get faster...

This is the inks stage of page one. Very sparse I know, but hopefully the colour will help.
No masks used as yet, which is why there's a bunch of frame overlap going on.

Page one, kind of done. My instinct is to leave the colouring kind of loose. Opinions very welcome!

Wow! Not hanging around the forums lately so I hope I am not so late to reply.
I love how you play with colors. Your sharp coloring style was nice but when I look what you've done with your tablet... it surely open new horizons before you. Absolutely amazing. I love how you painted that page, everything looks awesome. You give massage without story, what your reader should expect with your new style: A graphic novel.
Keep up good work.
Thanks for the kind words Knightly
Page two, inks in progress. This page looks VERY sparse at the moment, but it's designed so that the paint layer does the work.
I hope.

I think I feel the same.
Page two, complete-ish.
I'm not sure how I feel about this yet, but here's the final piece. Thanks again to those who've looked and passed comment, it's been really helpful. Opinions more than welcome.

That is gorgeous DrD yes you will be my artist of choice
It is great, that red background is really stunning. One thing I can say is, color choice for panel 2 and 4. Attacker's outfit is in different color. Even it looks superb artisticly, for sake of comics I think it will be better to color him with same hue (dark green or grey whichever is his outfit color).
He he... I can't stop looking what you did. Really, really amazing. Thumbs up.

Thanks Knightly, and you're right about the colours. Shoddy on my part. I paint each of the panels separatley, and hadn't taken an accurate colour reference, but was just mixing colour on a virtual pallette thing.

Trying something a little different I guess. Opinions and criticism very welcome, but these are early days.
I'm not happy with how my stuff's been looking so I'm just going to let this strip evolve and see where it goes.

Heh, Artistic doubts, aye?
To me your work looks fantastic. Liked this new page too. You play with colors smoothly.
As you said this is really early and I know from myself sometimes you're carried away with the excitement of new styles. I can clearly say your pictures looking nice and reflecting a style and I am saying this as a someone with so called artistic talent. Also I can totally understand you from my own feelings about coloring. No matter how much others say your works are looking awesome, if you can't satisfy your inner self that means your works ain't done properly.
Keep up good work.
Thanks for the kind words Knightly - it's really appreciated.
I'm stopping this experiment for a while, as I've been contacted to produce the art for an upcoming mini-series. Quite exciting, and a bit secret. Thanks again to everyone who has looked at my stuff.

Stuff
I've been playing with my Wacom tablet recently, looking to see how it works and getting away from the flat colour style I've been using thus far. Below is a work-in-progress piece, with work done on the face, and some blocking done in the background and on the arm. Still a long way to go before I'm happy with how it's going I think. Opinions very welcome.
