Pocket D Game Field

Similar stuff has been suggested a thousand and one times - I know - but I'm bored and I have an idea =D

Arena Architect
An obvious thing would be to have an MA style room in Pocket D which allows you to create Hero+Villain or Hero-v-Villain maps.

You can choose from different main-game options.

With the exception of 'Mission', all game modes require/allow teaming.

With single-map arcs, the group leader can change two variables for team-based games;

- Points to win (1 point = one game, 2 points = best of three, etc)

- Keep/Swap/Randomise teams (how the teams change between games - does not effect HvV)

The basic minigames are as follows;

Mission
The standard MA sttyle map creator. All players are put on the same team.

Race
Same as Mission, except both teams start in different maps (they never meet).
The first team to complete the map wins.

- There is a status bar at the top that shows both team's completion of the map

- If there is a time limit, the team with the most points wins

Offence/Defence
-Spawners placed at the start of the map for team A

-Leuitenants and minions are replaced by team B, who spawn at the nearest point of interest to Team A

-Points of interest are the general goals of a map (i.e. Escorts, Allys, Bosses, Clikables, etc.)

-Teams can be set as Mix, A=Hero or A=Villain (although teams auto balance incase there are more heroes than villains)

VS
Teams have their own set of goals. The game is won by the team who completes all of their goals / the most goals.

- Teams can be set to start on opposite ends of the map or both start at the normal spawn point.

- Goals can be shared or overlapped. I.e. both teams have to try and gain the same ally, or one team can try and click objects whilst the other team trys to destroy them.

- Clickies, escorts and allys can be allowed to swap teams (i.e. if a clicky is taken by team A, it can turn into a clicky for team b)

- Goal linking is still available, but needs to be more complicted (i.e. if Clicky A is TeamA, then goal 2 is open - goal 3 closed, if TeamB, then goal 3 is open - goal 2 closed)

- Escorts and allys can be set to standard, invincible or 'swap team on death' (in which case they respawn with full health, completly dedicated to those who killed them)
- A possible offshoot of this is to allow them to change character on death (changing between civilians and outcasts, for example)

- Damage between groups can be toggled (default off)

As the creative of you can probably see, this leads to several types of minigame or whole new story types.
For example, control-point based games, collection games, free the most hostages games, destroy the most objects games, etc are all possible, and probably a lot, lot more.

Anyways, i'm sure there's problems with it, I'm just writing this off the top of my head, so feel free to points them out etc.
I just really would love to see this happen =D

Seriously? No one as anything to say? Not even flaming?

To be honest, I doubt that people want/need a feature like this. Think about what happens to the various PvP games we got. Nobody is using them.

So your idea could be fun but most of the players don't care much for the whole competition thing.

Sounds cool, actually. Tbh, Spades, PvP in the aactual zones is borked. Having it in various maps sounds much better. And the suggested mission types sound quite nice. So you could have proper PvP bank heists, etc.

I agree, you can't draw that conclusion that CoX players are uncompetative because PvP isn't popular. It's simply because the PvP is rubbish.

I really should do something about this signature.

This is great. Your different modes are great. It could also be just as simple as merging MA with the arena rules. Let two teams meet in PD and sign up together.

The arc should get different ratings. One for each side.

I guess the missions would be without standard rewards, but might include many new PvP badges. And would be so awesome that XP would be irrelevant.

Instanced PvP missions with a story line = pure win.
That would even/especially drawn in the RPers who finally could beat each other up in a friendly manner and tell/experience a story at the same time!

I'm not a massive fan of the current pvp zones, and from what I can tell, neither are many other players.
With the system I outlined above alone, I can think of at least 20 different gamemodes which could be bodged together, then stretched over every compatable map in the game - we're talking hundreds of small pvp / H+V games.
Add onto that all the creative things I know people would come up with which I didn;t even intend the system for, plus extra features added by devs*, and the creative collective's brilliant story ideas - well... I'm sure other MMO's would be struggling to find something equal enough to compete for their multiplayer side...

I aggree that XP, on this MA at least, should be taken off. Seing how it'd be in PD, I'm sure it'd be possible to get around potential issues easily by having a story behind why it's not allowed.
It also means that teams could be auto-SK'd, which would be far better for a system like this.

As for just having Arena systems - It *could* work, but I think it really does need it'ss own rules.

I mean, you could cutt off this idea with just Standard and Race, save a tonne of coding, and still have a decent minigame. But the potential for Mini-games is so great with this it'd be a shame to miss out. Not to mention i'm sure that if it were just a choice of the two simple modes - with nothing more in depth than the current MA - interest would wear off very, very quickly.
I'm sure with the ammount of stuff available, someone would be able to set up a decent control-point or CTF gamemode based story, which would be amazingly fun to play just to unwind.
Without reward - noone would play it constantly - but i'm sure the fun wouldn't wear off for ages.

* For example, letting escorts spawn at selected entrances to the map, and allowing them to respawn when they're lead out.
Allow the creation of status changes (e.g. +/-speed, +/-fly, +/- Invuln, rezzerect**, hold***) and allow them to be triggered on specific players by goals (e.g. the player who completed a goal gets the de/buff, or new triggers such as 'on death' or 'on killed enemy player' or even 'random player choice on enter')

**whilst rezzurecting, allow auto-teleport to a specified area/objective/room - even if they arn't dead

***hold for X seconds / hold untill teammate within melee radius / hold until objective completed (choose) + choose hold effect/animation + optional mob spawn

- with these few additions alone we've got several new gamemodes.
