Necro/Pain any good?

Hello Folks,

I've just started another MM off, and I'm starting to wonder how well it's going to work in the higher levels.

I wanted to try out the /pain set, and went Necro/Pain. There's a few areas that are making me re-consider though.

Nullify Pain is a nice aoe heal, and World of Pain looks good too. With Necro though, I'll need to be in melee with the minions for the best results.

Painbringer looks good, and would probably be best used on a T3 minion. However is a Lich going to benefit from it the most?

I can't help thinking that thugs would have been a better pairing. Can anyone comment on the /Pain secondary and how it combined with their primary of choice?

Cheers,

Mike.

Can't see a reason why it wouldn't work.
Painbringer a grave knight though.
Oh and absorb pain hurts your pets in bg mode.

Hi,

I suppose it's not so much as it not working, more it not working as well as it could.

It's safer standing in the middle of ranged minions for the pbaoe effects of /pain, than in the middle of melee minions. It might be a bit of 'thug envy', but I'd imagine the bruiser is great with pain bringer too. In fact wouldn't world of pain stack really well with the enforcer's abilities?

Yes, it's nice that the damage is split with share pain, a practically cost free large heal .

painbringer meshes well with the pbots bubbles and enforces stacked maneuvers yes. The bruiser and assbot is really nice with painbringer from what i hear.

No clue how necro benefits though, since i havent tried that powerset.(waiting on sonic, cold or thermal)

World of pain works well with thugs, even affects the mobs from gang war I do not have pain bringer yet, but bruiser spends most of his time throwing boulders anyway (I14 should fix that).

One thing to note with Thugs/Pain though, is that the t1 pets are a bit squishy and can be one shotted by heavy hitting LTs like the melee ones from Rikti and the Lost. In toughs cases all the healing in the world will not help you keep your minions alive.
I have no experience with Necro, but from grouping with them I get the feeling that Zombies can take more of a beating, and there for would benefit more from the healing of /Pain.

Painbringer would be better on the graveknights. They are lovely hard hitters, eventualy all of them get a nice selfheal (also 1 for you).

World of pain works good too, since 5 of your 6 pets will be in melee. Supress pain is imho bitty lame, but since they have their own healing also its quite ok to have. Enforce moral same story, good to have. 2 fully upgraded graveknights can dish out lovely damage and you boost it even further (it stacks ).

You get a debuff that can pull off with a proc -40% resistance to damage.

It's PBAoE, so being in melee is a good thing, heck with a pain/nin MM it means you're not dashing off leaving your pets out of regen aura range to debuff the mobs.
