Cutscenes on TVs; remote AV taunting
I say: yay!

This is good. It's like that Recluse "video" (.gif?) in arachnos bases.

I want death traps. Heroes gather in a room, suddenly a cutscene on a monitor shows the villain taunting them as the doors close, and swarms of special tough mobs with nasty abilities enter through secret side passages.
Or the ceiling starts to descend and they have to destroy the door before it squishes them - hope you're not on a low DPS team.

Make a new thread, this is too good to waste as a mere comment.
Surely it's been suggested before, though?

I was thinking along the same lines like in Jabba's Palace in Star Wars where if you step on the booby trap you fall and get fed to the rancor. Basically the same idea in a mission in CoX.
But /signed to the main suggestion anyway.
We may start seeing this sort of thing if the devs read the post. The reason I think it's such a good idea is because it doesn't need new game systems or code. It's like someone building a magnetron for radar use, finding that it melted his chocolate bar, then building microwave ovens with them.

Dont really like the idea, there are some cut-scenes i like and plenty i dont like. Main reasons i would object to this is:
1) Constants interruptions. Most cut-scenes are nice first time you see them, but after the 20th time i just tend to alt-tab and browse the net rather than watch the same thing again. And one mish with like 5 scenes i cant skip? No thanks...
2) They aint that impressive. Sorry but with a few exeptions (last mish in LRSf, Dr. Aeon one in STF) i dont really like the cut-scenes in CoX, they dont look good enough to warrant the interruption for me.
Enk I think the idea is to remove the interruptions rather than make more of them.
You know in Grandville with the big TV's on the walls and you can see Lord Recluse? I think he means using that technology but adding sound throughout the mission. So you could stop and watch the TV's or just skip right on by.

While he mocks you mercilessly from afar! Muhaahah, you'll never stop him this time!

As long as there is a cut scene where your friend how has ghosted ahead appears behind him and the AV looks round and says 'oh [censored]...'

I see, yeah that would be nice, not really a cut-scene more like NPC text from a monitor then.
Btw adding sound? Granted i havent had my game sound turned on in over a year but is there really voice-overs on the cutscenes?

Nope, sorry to dissapoint.
Sorry, using the word sound was a bit optimistic, I meant captions ...

Only voice over so far is Recluse himself, on the Gradville screens.
Which, IMO at least, sounds REALLY good! Wish we got more.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

The short of my idea is: put cutscenes onto rooms with only a computer monitor in them, where the archvillain taunts you remotely.
The how? Well, my understanding of cutscenes is that they trigger as soon as you get near the room they're in, triggering the room and all the critters to spawn. Usually, the focus of cutscenes is the Archvillain. But who said it had to be an enemy? Or in fact an NPC of any kind? Why not an entity, like a glowie? You'd then attach NPC dialog to this non-interactive entity, and have it talk.
Instead of trawling through ten floors of enemies and getting a twenty second cutscene, you could have smaller cutscenes dispersed throughout the mission. The AV could taunt you; "You'll never make it to me!" "You should give up now while you have the chance, hero!" and other one-liners, all while you work your way up the map. Having action and dialogue mixed with each other can be a whole lot more effective than the jarring switch between text and action you get now.
It just occurred to me that this is entirely possible to do. It uses currently existing technology, as critters and objects are interchangeable (that's been established elsewhere). It's just using what we have in a new way, like weapon customisation. What say you?
