Some artwork I can post

Hmm, I did specifically make sure I narrowed her waist and lengthened her legs this time, which is how the character is built in CoH. It's rather an Image character style, slightly exaggerated. I rather like it, actually, so

Well, that definitely is personal preference It's just something I couldn't help but noticing, so pointed out anyway!

Eagerly looking forward to more though! The shadows thing I can get. Been fiddling in DAZ myself the past few days, and only managed to get shadows working properly this morning. Though I'm very impressed now!
I would post one or two but one, it'd feel like jumping in on something else and two... I'm not sure I should!

...And it's not to do with the image content as to why not!

I really like what you're doing there. I actually used to do a bit of work with an online group called Who 3D, who wanted to re-build some of the missing episodes in 3D. I just worked with them on the audio so nothing special, but I did pick up a few things.

If you're after more realistic images then you might want to consider these plugins:

Enviroment Plugin with HDRI
light shader
Elite Human Surface Shader

I would think that the most important one of those is the HDRI plugin. HDRI stands for "High Dynamic Range Image". It's a special photographic technique that allows you to capture the lighting conditions of a location. Basically, that image is taken and mapped on to the inside of a sphere. The sphere then acts as the source for your lighting and shadows. It takes longer to render but the results are amazing. Check this out:

DX9 Vs LW+HDRI

Already had the skin surface shader on my list of things to get, I've added the lighting one. That environment shader could be very useful.

And on to business... I found this work-up of the US Seal, the Eagle with the arrows and olive leaves, y'know? It does look really cool on its own, but I thought it was just crying out to have a Liberty Girl in front of it...

Patriot

And, Crius, before you complain about the background being really simple, that's the point for this one. It's meant to look like a photoshoot for a magazine cover or something. Plain white background (actually, slightly grey) and a blue sheet on the floor.

Anyway, hope Dan likes it.

He does, indeed!

I'm trying not to complain! Really! But the backgrounds are the only bad thing I can pick out.

Except on that one It does look like a photo shoot, and looks great.

I think Libby deserves better hair, and the costume might look a bit better with a low opacity texture/bump map, but apart from that, fantastic!

What her costume needs is probably some work on the skin bump-map I used to overlay it, so the skin looks skin-like and the costume looks cloth-like. (Edit to add that I haven't looked at those yet, so goodness knows what I need to do. Opacity was bad enough.) And, yes, I'm still looking for good hair that's more Libby-like. No one seems to do a good bob sort of style.

Anyway, I'm really not sure about this one. It gets the job done, but I need some good casual clothes that morph properly so Annette is a bit under-dressed.

The idea is to show a view of what goes on in Annette/Ni's head when they meet to 'discuss' things.

Ni and Annette - Oi! I'm talking!

The clothes aren't that bad! It's kinda what we've come to expect from Ni and Annette (maybe not so much Annette, but still).

The look on Ni's face is especially good

Softer shadows would be nicer I think! The fall of the shadows on Ni's shoulders looks a bit sharp, but it is nice!

Well spotted. You get this kind of distortion a lot and it annoys the hell out of me. I have another render which I haven't posted anywhere yet because I'm not totally happy with it. The base position is the same, with some tweaks, and the shoulders are distorted there too, so I've smudged that area in postwork and it looks a lot better.

It's also possible that rendering to a much higher resolution might fix it. I may try that tonight, just for the hell of it.

Well...
I like the later ones, as the face and general proportions seem to have become more realistic and suchnot over time and practice. Some very cool pieces there, looking forward to seeing more.

Out of artist mode; Damn you! -envy- I hope like crazy I can pull off some decent 3D stuff when I go to do Animation. Trying to learn this stuff on your own just hurts my brain. Besides, paying for software sure as ain't cheap...
Nice 'un, Birdy. You might still be a goit, but you're an artistic one

Well, I use this: DAZ|Studio

It pretty much only does figure modelling, with some basic primitives like planes and spheres. If you want to produce characters like Ni then you'll need to pay for them, but the basic Victoria and Michael models are free from the same web site. You can also get free clothing, set dressing, and scenery models from various sites, though you'll have to fork over cash if you want really good quality materials.

As I've said before, and others have also said, it isn't so much talent, artistic know how, or skill that gets you good results, it's patience. (Though I think a grasp of anatomy and an appreciation for lighting helps.)

I'm going to take that as a compliment, rather than firebombing your house.

Oh, you'd know if it was meant as an insult
Or if you were really that annoying, for that matter. =]
