Ni does indeed look very, very good.
Perhaps a little too good. The detail on her swords, body and boots seems to overshadow the rest, almost making her look superimposed on the background.
To cover my view, I now realise just how expensive all this is after being intrigued enough to take a good look at everything on offer. ($36 for a scene? I was more than a little gobsmacked)
So, not to sound like a complete [censored], I -do- love how Ni looks, but the background seems out of place to me. Or she looks out of place on the background...
Actually superimposing her on a detailed photo scene could be quite interesting!

You wait until I get into this enough to fork out money for the software! The cheapest package is over $100. Poser is about £300.
The problem with the city in the background is it's scaled up about 5000% which messes up the texture. Might see what I can do with a room scene or something, I can get those sized more appropriately for the characters... Hmmm... You're evil, Crius, you realise I'll be at this until you go "Oooo!" right?

I am evil, I like seeing people get into things I never could. It's intriguing and fun and helps me go "Hmm, perhaps I should try again", so I apologise and say thank you at the same time!
You probably could rectify the background problem with some superimposed/picture backgrounds, but I'm not sure if that's what you have in mind.
And I'm not sure how DAZ really works, so I'm not sure if importing 3D, textured models works or they have to be setup...
Once Ni is placed in a fantastic background, I'm sure I'll go "Oooooooo!" and you can back to enjoying the hobby. Promise!

Any surface can have an image file mapped to it. I'm not exactly sure how it works myself and it would take a lot of fiddling to get right, I suspect. I'll have a go at it sometime, just because I can, but I don't have the energy for that stuff tonight.

Now that really made me go "Oooo!"
That really is a huge leap forward, in my eyes at least. The background is good enough now to not distract your eyes from Ni, and with the shadows and lighting cranked up like that, it looks spectacular!
The boots, her rear and, um... side profile especially.
I can still see the difference in texture quality from Ni to her background, but then I'm picky as hell (and "hard to please" ) because I work in the industry. I'm paid to notice this stuff!
That really is great though. Looking forward to more now!
And if you ever want someone to fiddle with touch-ups, or maybe even some texturing and similar, I can be poked and annoyed to do it. After all this moaning, it's the least I could (try) and do.

Wow! I like that Ni and computer picture. That really awesome both lights and her pose.
For Ni vs Troll. I am passing the Troll, he looks like mini Hulk.
Like Sapphic i find Ni's face a bit weird in this face but i think it is not her mouth as she pointed but her eyes. She look a bit shocked... like a poor actress on action movies. Maybe a harsher look suits better to that scene. Other details look very well done, including her mouth which looks tastefull.
Considering this is Ni, and knowing what I know about the character, I think a look of contempt would suit her better - slightly narrowed eyes, head tilted a smidgeon and a tiny condescending smirk on her lips. But that's just me.

The really cool bit about creating art this way is that I can say things like "I think this came out awesome" and get away with it not sounding like bragging because it wasn't me, it was the modelling software. I mean, all I did was put some other people's bits together like lego, position the gates and the figure, pick an expression, and render the thing several times until I liked it (at 15 minutes a shot).
So... I think this came out awesome, though her face is a little overshadowed, perhaps.

Ni does look great as usual. The shading on her face is a bit strong, but it does suit the scene and gives it a slightly more menacing twist.
The shading in the background though, I'm not sure about. It looks like different lighting to that is on Ni herself.
It does look good though, can see a definite improvement with each new one It's inspired me to fiddle with Poser and the like again, so thanks.
...I do think the mesh part of her costume could do with being a bit more see-through though. If only to keep in with the game

There will be a pause in production. My new PC doesn't like DAZ|Studio very much. I think it's an OpenGL problem, which means it's vista and I'm stuffed unless I 'downgrade' the OS which I'm reluctant to do.
Have to see what happens.

It's more see through. I fiddled with the transparency map so that the doubled over edges remain fairly solid, but the panels are about 65% transparent. On the stunningly large version of this I have on my screen at home, you can tell because of the shadows. I'm not sure if it comes out as well on the smaller version on dA.

And the mesh definitely looks better! The more solid bits at the edges really make it look more real and do attract your eyes too, which is probably the intention

I had to rebuild from scratch, I've got next to no background stuff on the system yet and was mainly rendering that one for test purposes. I rather like it too, so I'm going to see about putting some background in and see how it goes.

The hair was some new hair I got (cheap ). I need to tweak her fringe a bit, but it does look a bit more like her in-game 'loose' hair, and it's more morphable.
Her face has changed (you try remembering exactly where to put 50-odd sliders), I think she's a bit younger looking, slightly less angular, but the basic shape and such have remained pretty close to the old version.

Very, very nice indeed. I don't pretend to understand any of this 3D stuff, but I'm pretty certain that aside from having to have the creative bit, you also have to have the patience bit.
Once you've made a Ni, for example, that you're happy with, can you save it and then recall it later, reposition/re-pose the model in a new environment, etc. - or do you have to rebuild from scratch every time?

Yes, you can save and reload. I don't know how other people do it, but I tend to have a Scene file for the basic nude character, which I can then either use as a base to create the scene I want, or merge into another file. The Libby flying with Ni shot was done by taking Libby's basic costumed scene and merging Ni's costumed file into that. (I also save versions with the costumes if it's complex enough, and getting the fits and setting the texture maps is complex enough.)
You can also save 'character presets' which can be applied to the base model to give different characters. I'll figure out how to do that properly sometime. As it is, it works, so I'm happy doing it the way I do.

Ni does look a hell of a lot better than the very first one... but (here we go) there's something on that one I can't pick out.
My eyes keep getting drawn to the boots/her hips/thighs, and for some reason they just look...strange.
I think it might be the exaggerated "Superheroine" frame thing, with the terribly skinny waist and muscular everything else. It gives her a bit of a strange look.
I'm going again with the background too, but this time I have a legitimate criticism! Shocking, I know.
Ni herself is fantastic and I think in this one, it's easy to pick out why the background doesn't come to the same standard: lighting.
The shadows on Ni complete the whole thing, but the stark "fullbright" background makes her look out of place
...I'm really starting to feel awkward being the only one offering some criticism too. I do love them, really!

Hmm, I did specifically make sure I narrowed her waist and lengthened her legs this time, which is how the character is built in CoH. It's rather an Image character style, slightly exaggerated. I rather like it, actually, so
Now, the odd thing with the background is that the same lights are lighting it as Ni. I guess the paler rock surface reflects more. The ground map does suck a little bit. I've got some really juicy looking scene maps I found on dA via Renderocity. If I can figure out where to put what to get the right results, you may be impressed. (I did say 'may'. )
