FYI on Windows 7
Even more funny, my black aura on thermal buffs is gone
(i dont have to run in admin mode though)
I really like windows 7, quite a bunch of new nice features and it 'feels' faster.

I'm running the 64bit version to take advantage of the 4Gb's of RAM. I've also not disabled UAC, hence the need to run COX in Admin mode.

Aye, tried it out last night... seems to run just fine, although on a dual screen setup, i was getting pretty low FPS compared to my XP boot.
Was fun, Windows 7 lasted 2 hours, cos i am not doing a full reinstall on a system that will be expiring in august
The pops and clicks though in the audio setup though bothered me, and also 5.1 videos sounded a bit off as well. :S

You do know that UAC in Win 7 has different levels of warning etc, so you can run CoH in normal mode but still not get the warning dialog appear?

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Encouraged by Win7 myself actually. Ran it today at work on a quad core 2GB RAM Vista box running Virtual PC 2007. Set aside 1GB for Win7 and whilst not ideal, it did actually run quite well (especially when you consider that VPC gives you just an 8MB S3 Trio 64 as the virtual graphics card).
Will probably wait for the full version before I run it at home though.

Tried it on my home machine last night and unfortunately, as I have an ATi X1950 Pro, things didn't go terribly well. ATi have Win 7 drivers for the 2, 3 and 4000 cards, but not for my x1950
The Vista drivers worked.. in a fashion, but CoH was all over the place and the drivers did not want to uninstall cleanly. Oddly the only way I could get CoH to work at all was using Win7's own x1950 driver downloaded from Windows Update; albeit with some really funky contrast settings and no way of enabling any of the Advanced features.
What I saw of Windows 7 I absolutely love. Sure, it's got Vistas gloss, but it's all been tidied up, and all the annoying rubbish has been turned off. Just have a look at the list of services and how many of them are set to "Manual" for a kick off!

Soon!
Heh.. seriously, the beta runs out on 1st August 2009, and Microsoft are offering free upgrades to Win 7 for anyone that buys a PC with Vista on it after July. From that I reckon we can expect it Sept / Oct time.

These errors sound like they're down to ATi and nVidia not having proper drivers out for the thing. This is understandable, as a widespread beta has only just begun, and driver bug testing works much better on a big range of systems.
Win 7 appears to be faster than Vista, faster than XP even in many regards. They're really put the work into taking what Vista had, which is already quite good right now, and polishing it 'til their arms gave out.
Here's a handy tip. The CoX updater may need administrator access, but assuming you don't install it to C:\Program Files, the game itself doesn't want them. If you install it to somewhere where you can modify files without admin access, like your home directory (wouldn't do that myself) or a second hard drive (excellent for performance), you can make a shortcut to CityofHeroes.exe with the switch -project EUCoh. Just make a shortcut to the EXE, and add that to the end, so it looks like...
...CityOfHeroes.exe" -project EUCoh
Make sure the " is included. This will run CoX without admin rights, which should technically make your system more stable. The idea is that if a program does fudge things up, restricting what it can do will minimise the damage. That line of thinking is what got us UAC in the first place.
Using the -project switch isn't officially supported, and you would need to manually run the updater to get the latest patch, but it works very well for me. It will work equally well on Win 7.

It's definitely drivers Nec, like I said CoH will run fine* with Win7s own x1950 driver, just not with the Vista ones. Given also that ATi have issued a version of the Catalyst 8.12 for the 2, 3, and 4000 series of cards, suggests that Win7 and Vista are different enough to warrant it (not like in the old days where if you didn't have a Win XP driver, 9 times out of 10 a Win 2000 one would work)
(*I say fine. The contrast is all out of whack, and none of the advanced video features are available. With the Vista x1950 drivers, it seems to be OK in windowed mode, but running full screen almost looks like it's trying to run in a resolution that the monitor can't support. If it were permissions based I'd have expected the same result irrespective of driver used.)

One thing that would be interesting to see though is if Microsoft will be taking charge of delivering *all* updates via their windows update service (ie including gfx/sound card driver updates) or leaving it up to the end user?

When is Windows 7 scheduled for release?
Really wanna get rid of Vista O.o
[/ QUOTE ]
AFAIK there isn't an official release date yet. The industry gossip is that the release will happen later this year.
My personal guess is that they'll release the business editions in Oct/Nov and the other editions in Nov/Dec. Microsoft will be _very_ keen to release in time for next Xmas.
If it slips then it probably won't be available until early next year. I can't see it being any later than May 2010.
Yes, COX does work on Windows 7 Beta 1 build 7000. As with Vista you need to run the game in Admin mode. The beta Nvidia drivers for my 8600GTS work a treat, and I actually get better performance (At least +5FPS) using Win7 than Vista. VERY impressed so far with Windows 7 and will definitely be upgrading. It seems that Microsoft get the OS right every other version!
Did have some artifacts in Croatoa, but dropped the graphics to performance and then back up to Quality seemed to sort it out.
