Farming PvP Badges; Can We Do This?

Hello all,

Well after my first week back in CoX after a Christmas gift, and after blitzing through the content I'd not yet seen, I've found that I don't really have any achievable goals with the game again; hence I'm putting this post up with the idea of thrashing out if we can make some of the impossible achievable as a group effort. In particular, I'm thinking of the PvP reputation badges.

As it currently stands, my understanding is that there is a limitation on how many times you can kill someone to gain Reputation Points towards badge progress; What I was wondering was, has anyone done the mathematics to work out what sort of structure we would need, and how many willing participants, to ensure that if we set up a badging event regularly, we could all wail on each other to get the necessary progress?

Furthermore, is it account or merely character based? If it's character based, what we could do is bring all our alts along too, to share the progress by giving constant new targets for each other... it would require a certain core of unselfish people, but I don't mind putting aside some time every weekend myself to aid in this... as it is, PvP is still too broken and spec-rather-than-talent based to see how I'm going to achieve any badge progress any other way, and I'd be glad to help others who may be stuck the same way.

So... do we think we can set up a specific time and place for a mass rumble?

I'd be bang up for this, if you sort out a date and time, make sure u giev me a bell in game and ill come along, i can do any day

Well, I was speaking to the infamous Sal last night, and he recommended we set it up in Warburg, where heroes etc can fight each other too; there's also other badges to work on if you get caught with target downtime. If we can get enough people to come, and log some alts out there (badges for day jobs too!) we should be able to make a strong go of it.

I'm thinking of trying to set one up this weekend some time to at least get the idea rolling; I presume most people are on GMT or close to it time, and possibly mid to late afternoon...? What times would everyone think would be best for them?

I'll pop into CoH to scout out some locations in Warburg for it before bed, but right now I'm editing videos; I was very briefly on BBC News at 10pm yesterday See if you can spot me :P

If you're going to do this, I'd suggest a) not widely advertising it, because there WILL be some idiots turn up to try and spoil it, and b) be prepared to move locations in Warburg occasionally, although if you were to form up into teams with a few people with +stealth AoE's (Group Invis, Steamy Mist, Arctic Fog, Shadowfall) on each team, you could potentially reduce the risk of being 'stumbled across'.

As far as the Reputation progress goes, you can get rep for defeating someone once every 10 minutes, I believe, and once the targets rep gets to a certain level the amount you get for defeating them scales up, so it accelerates to an extent. Also, Rep degrades at 0.1 point per hour whether or not you're logged in, out, in a pvp zone or not.

Filling a Base Insp storage device with awakens and taking a full tray of said insps into zone would also be a large help, as you can go to base from Warburg, exit base and you're back exactly where you were in Warburg, potentially with another full tray of awakens.

If you're just after the Fusion reactor for the base, then you don't even need to wait 10 minutes between victories to get credit, but at 750 'kills' required, it still takes hours and bleedin' hours to get. (and don't forget to be in SG mode to get credit, too)

Good luck and I may be interested. I'll see what time I'm on tomorrow

:edit:

PS, /hide helps, too. All you need to hide from is searches, unless you're really REALLY paranoid

As a matter of interest, how do you perceive people will try and spoil it? If they turn up and just fight, that's fine as we want as much variety in killing blows as possible; however I can imagine that one or two of the usual imbalanced builds might make it a little one sided, but if we have enough players that may cancel out in turn. Sal suggested we pair everyone up into teams of two as they arrive to try and increase kill-credit chances too... but can you foresee any problems outside of that?

As to what it's for, well just as much badge progress for everyone who wanders by as we can reach... where they draw the line is up to their personal tastes, but as for me I just want to get achieve that little bit more left undone on my courageous cow; he's already done every last mission hero side, and all the Task Forces, and got most of the badges... but the PvP ones still elude him

I'll be in for this, i'll keep eye on the thread

Ok chaps, I'm going to provisionally scratch in a time for a first attempt to get people into Warburg, and we'll see what develops from there. I'm thinking either Saturdays or Sundays in the evening, around 6pm GMT? And from there leave it rolling until everyone gets bored and goes to do taskforces or something...?

Here's a rough plan then:

SUNDAYS, UNION, 6PM (UK Time)

Head to WARBURG for mass PvP rumbles. Try and fight around the "Warburg" marker, in the centre, where the globe with the rotating rocket is.

Try and find a partner to team up with. It doesn't matter who. If there are only a few of us there, try and bring in alt characters, or work out an efficient way of swapping kills to progress everyone along. Later on if plenty appear this will probably be impractical, but always aim to kill someone NOT on your timer. It also doesn't matter who; if PvPers turn up, just fight them as normal, as that is what we are all here for... however if potential griefing occurs, you should all attempt to work together to resolve it.

Try and keep Broadcast and local chat free of trash talk, as if people get frustrated or angry the whole thing might collapse. Likewise, don't bear grudges; wailing on the same person won't help your badge progress and will tend to break down the dynamic we need to maintain... kill, find someone new, kill... and if you are killed, well done you've just helped someone else, that's all

Sounds good i shall see you there!

I tend to think as well, each death brings you closer to the damage badges which i need for my villain for last (old) accolade. So theres a plus side to everything

Aye, alas we only got a few people come along; then the PvPers wandered by and proceeded to steal killing blows from those engaged with each other... We teamed up for a while, and fought them instead, until they appeared to give up; we then moved away to near the hero base to try and make progress again. Later on though the PvPers came back with more villains, all of them max/min'd stalkers needless to say, and again tried to one-shot the squishies or those otherwise distracted... all the time lecturing us on how "PvP rep is something you have to earn" and lack of skill yadda yadda. We again teamed up, but after a futile hour or so of watching where their ripples were in the water, and not making any progress again, we moved out and changed zone... at first swapping to an arena to get a few people the badge for the monkey cage, and then back into a PvP zone, but by which time there was only 5 of us left, and it wasn't worth keeping going.

And of course, in the time since Sunday, all the progress we did make on reputation will have decayed back to zero. So to be honest, unless someone can come up with a cast iron way to make genuine progress, I'm not all that interested in spending the little free time I have wrestling with the problems involved; I suspect that plenty of people would like the badges, but trying to get them all involved, and productively, is something beyond my tolerances these days. Anyone else want to take over then?

It was still good fun tho! i think its all to do with the numbers, and its one of those cases of 'if you build it, they will come' .. but the problem is the building. Once you have a fair few ppl then everyone wants in, but finding the few good men/women to get it going properly is alot harder. I guess maybe 16ppl.

*Note* Stalkers element of suprise is totally ineffective in water

The main annoyance with the reputation system for the pvp badge IS the DECAY of points, a total of 2 each day.
When I got it, i got together with a few likeminded people at a premade time, with any alt that could be used as cannonfodder.
To get a point from the same char, you got to wait killing him/her/it by 10 minutes. Those chars that need the badge are the killers (but they can also kill eachother in turn each 10 min). The alts that will feed the points are... well targets.
Get the wakies or one char that can rez and simply keep doing such a farm abit away from where normal pvp'ers fight.
Make certain that you get enough points on the killer characters to fight the decay and points that will get you towards progress.
Do this regulary! The more often, the less points are paid in upkeep for decay.
Mass tries as you did is good for boosts

But as said, I would advice you to get together with the core group, bring your alts and make your mains kill eachother alts and the other killers. Do as little as travel back to the kill spot. AND GO ON /HIDE !!!

Good luck on the reputation hunt
