Bases - Decorative versions of working items

Title says it simply so I'll expand - I'd like to be able to have things like salvage racks, power generators, databases/bookcases, invention tables and the like (the energy/control objects) as decorative items.

Main reason is I'd like to be able to make a decorative storage room without the exorbitant prestige cost.

So long as they are not the things players can interact with, I don't see any problem with this. Workbenches and the like are a no no however. We don't want to confuse the sg members.

I would like more flashing computer stuff for my Control Room. I don't care if it doesn't work, just make it light up.

agreed its hard to get that mad science look to a room there needs to be more clutter.

Sounds good to me. Besides I think this could even be very hard to implement. They have the models, just need to remove the click-boxes (or whatever they have to make them clickable) inside the objects to make the decorative.

Given that bases are now exceedingly *cheap* compared to their previous prices (which were still affordable), the racks aren't going to cost you much.

On the flipside, depending how many you required in one room, I can see how the 'limit on storage items' might hamper your decoration.

I'm all one for more decoration to flesh out bases (it's been a LONG time since we've seen anything new) - but I'm not sure that the OP is a good suggestion.

I have a magic room in my tech base for the arcane members of my SG. I have the large bookshelf in there, but because it's not connected to anything, it's just a dull bookshelf. If it was connected to some arcane control, runes and energy would skitter across a field surrounding it. That's what the OP is asking for, same with holo displays that don't need to be attached to display, mega monitors and such.

Ah, I suppose. Yeah, I would like to place some control-graphic items without having to have them 'link' to something to turn on.

Signed, many of the functional items would be nice as non-functional fluff.

My 'main control room' looks quite pretty, and I'd love to add the holodisplay - but since I've got my main control system aux'd up with the mission computer, I'd need another primary control system before I can place a 'live' holodisplay. seems a bit daft...

[/ QUOTE ]I'd rather the racks didn't cost me anything at all but the rent change forces me to consider alternatives. The initial cost is not the problem, the rent is.

However, you've kinda got it in that I don't want them functional:

I don't want racks to store things in, I just want the model to be available as decoration, flesh out the workshop. As said, the model already exists and it's not as if they are raid targets anyway.

How about a possible 'on/off' switch, that turns items from 'accessible' to 'aesthetic'? Rather than doubling up the number of items available, whilst all looking the same?

Don't especially matter how its implemented, its the eventual effect that is needed.

[/ QUOTE ]Ooo, I do like that idea but there's still the room and map limit on storage items (although that could change).

I could live with an on/off switch though
