hello can anyone help. i have just started playing cox again but am having a crash every 10 mins ish.
screen turns to a black one and i get a loading sign and cant do anything else apart from "ctrl atl delete" to my task manager which then tells me coh is not responding.

I have a good set up and have no problems with any other game at all.

pc is one above but i have upgraded ram to 4 gig and i have vista32.
any help would be great.

p.s can anyone tell me how to rename a link? like the one in this post so it dont have to be so long and i could just call it "click here" or something. Thanks

Can you share any further information about the crash you were receiving? Were there any crash dialogues?

Is your system running Vista, and are your graphics card drivers current? There have been issues related to Vista + nVidia graphics in recent months caused by the graphics drivers crashing.

Are you running in SLI mode while playing? This has also been known to cause some issues.

Finally ... there was a client crash introduced with the launch of Issue 13 yesterday that has now been resolved. Is the problem persisting today?

yes i am in sli mode and running vista 32.

I dont get any error messages at all just flickes to a black screen and my mouse pointer turns to the coh loading sigh( circle pointer) then i have to "ctrl alt delete" as nothing else happens and then i get a flicker of a grey screen before it then takes me to my task manager where it says "coh not responding" so then i just end the task.
i have up to date drivers for my cards.

this happened before issue 13 also.

I will turn sli off to see if that makes a difference.

Ok went to change sli settings and it was off anyway lol

i also had something called "phyxs GPU accelertion" turned on so i disabled that too.

Same thing just happened though after about 10 mins of playing i got black screen again.

So i guess this is a vista prob? shame as there is not much i can do about that lol.

Just to add i can play "AOC" and TR with no probs at all as I tried these for a test both on max settings etc.

ok another update which im not sure if its related or not.
i get to server select screen and can get to char select fine on all servers apart from union.
it just kinda thinks a bit then i get a message "cant connect to Db server" then it takes me back to where you enter your password.
all other servers work fine its just union i cant get on now.
on and earlier i was able to play for a good few hours without a dc to black screen so it seems random for some reason.

This isn't your computer or Vista/nvidia related (don't let them tell you otherwise) I run both Vista 32, and a GeForce 9400GT Nvidia card. They worked fine until about 3 patches ago, since then things like power lag, server synch problems and since the last patch major crashes. I have done everything to try and sort this. Re-installing windows and updating, downloading and updating drivers, swapping out graphics cards, changing ingame and out of game graphic settings, dedicated more virtual memory, changing resolution, clocking up my CPU... name it I tried it. This is something that is game related not gamer related.

Yeah you can add me to that list of crashers too... Can't get past the server select... was fine last night though... so what ever they "fix" did this...

What ever...
Just get it...
Over with all ready...

There has been a known issue with Vista + nVidia graphics cards for City of Heroes and other games in recent months. When a game closes with a windows popup stating that the graphics driver crashed, then it's reasonably easy to find the culprit. The Vista + nVidia issue is absolutely verified, although it does not effect all players equally.

It sounds like Lycon's crash may be unrelated, however I had to ask.

Any specifics on the crashes? What error messages etc are you receiving?

For both of you: have you contacted the support team?

Right I got my self sorted udated my drivers... though don't think that realy fixed it as I was on dual screen mode before that might have something to do with it

Yeah sorry, technical bits are:

crash realated to driver, crash related to forced kick, crash related from unresponsive programme, crash from absolutley nothing.

It all happens, very often too. forced removals even though server is up and running and not even planned downtime nor being taken down, graphics driver stopped and restarted a few times but mainly when I stop actual play and stand still.. be it refilling my glass or turning on a light etc. I've had my game crash with an unresponsive programme message a few times, sometimes on the character creation screen, sometimes opening wentworths and sometimes even just looking at what badges I have/need. And finaly I have had my game crash straight to windows with no message or explanation.

Now about the tech support... not much they can do except fix the problems they have and they have received bug reports about this. And they can't tell me anything I don't know or havn't tried, cause if I don't know it then I got help from a relative thats a certified tech and tried it.

The problems with windows vista and nvidia do exist, but the combination works on other games without half this trouble and it's also on the GvsE and Collectors DVD Edition box's as the recommended: 'geforce 6200 series" which is pretty damn stupid if they have trouble running the game don't you think?

So the only options available are... go XP and screw Vista, buy a non-Nvidia Graphics or put up with the crashes and the lag...

Sounds like the samething I'me getting, jsut got myself a nice new PC and couldn't wait to get going on it...sadly I'm getting to the loading screen and then crashing. I'm getting the CoH crash window (where you can type what you were doing as it crashed) this states its a ATIOGLXX.dll problem.

I'm on vista and using an ATI graphics card...looks like I'm gonna have to roll back to XP.....great!!!

@SkullFester

I'm not changing this signature until I'm proclaimed 'King of the World'.

Actually that ones a driver error, was getting that untill I updated my ATI drivers which got me sorted for getting into the game, now if I can just figure out why everything went haywire once I started missioning this morning.

Nychus is right,, thats a driver error and can be fixed by downloading the driver directly from your graphics card driver provider... though thanks to vista's great performance you may have to save it to your hard drive, unplug from the internet, disable user account control and then install the driver. was the only way I could instal any driver for my graphics card since vista kept timing out the instal and I receiived the message "the system was not modified" and the restart now option... until I actually read it I couldn't figure out why I didn't get any driver installed for my graphics no matter where I installed from.

however there is alot of lag, crashes and general rubbishness connected with trying to play CoX.. a couple of people I spoke to seem to think it could be coz they split the patch in two and didn't actually copy some insignificant but relevant coding from the bits of the second half of the patch that the first needs. others suggest it's vista/graphics provider and a few more seem to suggest someone needs a kick in the pants... anyone got a big clown shoe we can use?
