Reinventing characters. Your advice?
Um, frankly, no. My experience of RP on villain side has consisted of a few random chats and failing to get to the one event I had planned to.
I'd suggest seeing if you can find an SG with an Arachnos theme and hooking her up with that. Villain-side RP seems to be far more related to SG-based activity than.
And the other thing to remember regarding roleplay is: If in Doubt, Wing It.

I'm treating my lack of interest in Heroes as a seperate problem right now, but any advice on any of these things would be lovely.

Alas, there really just isn't much villain RP around. As there's no public meet, the Clocktower failed, all there is, is Pocket D or private RP in SG's. If I even THINK about sending you to Pocket D, Z will hurt me.
As Birdy says, you need to find a villain RP SG that fits your theme. Once you've done that, the rest should be fairly easy really.
If you want public RP, then I'm afraid heroes really is the solution....

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
My personal suggestion would be to drop the zealous worship of Commander Varrick (an NPC, right?)
as it prevents loyalties to others, be it groups or individuals that'd tie you to the group (ropes optional). Well, maybe not preventing it, but makes it harder.

I do this regularly and see how the character evolves. Normaly it works much better than most other things I do. o.O But your best bet would be a little less fanatical about Varrick so she isn't hinged on being around him so she has her own free will to a degree. But keep it there just lessen it slightly. Really all I can say though is what Birdie says wing it and hope for the best.

Gotta love dem dere RolePlayers
My offer ah la the Krimzon Guard still stands, seeing as we're now actually active =]
Having a charachter that depends solely on one other character is always tough. My blaster Wolf (not full name) is an example of how it can work. He RPs at his best when his brother Fox (not full name, played by another) is online, but he can still RP well on his own.
Pairings can work, but ones that rely too heavily on one other person being on do become a straightjacket.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Just realised, Varrick is a Player Character.
That'd work better, I think, but still...

Few of my characters start out with much more than a sketch history and enough personality to be able to converse with others. They get fleshed out as I talk to people and have to answer questions. I find it easier to do it that way than have a fully fleshed personality defined before I start. Or maybe I'm just too lazy.
Does depend on you, however, and having a notebook of some kind around to write down what you've decided does help a lot.

Righto, back from work now, so I can elaborate a little more.
First up, Jane is attached to a themed Supergroup already. We're trying to give ourselves somehing of a boost in terms of general activity, and I'm trying to go /think on some plots and the like. Unfortunately a lot of time at work has drained me of most mental functions this week, so I'm a bit slow with it.
Secondly, Varrick is indeed a player character. The loyalty is there, but it isn't overriding any and all interaction with other people. My problem is that said attachment to Varrick is one of the biggest facets to Jane, which - as fun as it is - has made her pretty shallow. I'm trying to flesh the girl out without neccesarily diluting that kind of mindset; her rise and fall through the ranks of Arachnos is a pretty significant chunk in her storyline.
However, point taken and I'll sit down and have a think about where I can go from here. Honestly, when I look at it like this I can see it mirroring the reasons I got in a huff with WoW roleplay several years back - though it was never intended to be, my character's partner (Varrick being the non-romantic equivelant here) was a bit too important for my own even though I denied it at the time. You can guess what happened when said person left...

Righto, apologies in advance for the brevity of this thread as - like always - I started it over an hour ago but constant delays on my part ("I'll just listen to 'Be Prepared' three more times...") mean I'm now scrambling to get it up before work in ten minutes.
Anyway!
A couple months ago I fell out of love with CoX. I wasn't really abel to find much in the way of PVE teaming, my Heroes would flounder in terms of characterisation, and my villain Jane apparently hinged on three things:
1.) Crab Spider claws.
2.) Loyalty to Varrick.
3.) An odd blend of Americanisms good ol' Brit sayings.
This time around I'm trying to prepare myself for a more dedicated, more thorough attempt at getting involved in the larger roleplaying community. Unfortunately I need a little help sorting Jane out and making her into something that's a bit more substantial beyond standing around and looking frightening for a few minutes at a time. To that end I currently have three things in mind:
1.) Completely rewrite her Wiki page. Not retcon her or anything, but just flesh her out, add more depth to the page and make her seem like a person rather than a character.
2.) Get a story written for her in the next couple of weeks. Nothing too big, just something which delves into her childhood and the incident that nudged her from Arachnos Grunt to Fanatical Devotee Of Commander Varrick The All-Awesome-And-All-Knowing.
3.) Uh, this is where I fall down.
Is anyone able to help here? Have you had a similar problem before, and if so how did you improve on it? I'm treating my lack of interest in Heroes as a seperate problem right now, but any advice on any of these things would be lovely.
