"Epic Match" Idea

Something better suited to side-scrolling-action-packed-fight-'em-up-console-games...I feel.
Have you by any chance been playing Star Wars: The Force Unleashed? Sounds to me a lot like one of that games features. (Just taking it a step further)
The first technical problem would be that when player a uses a power on player b, calculations are done even before the graphics hit the target. So when player be use the same power the code would have to go back and undo the attack player a made.
Then there is the balance issue, how would you account for different number of enhancements slots and types of enhancements used? Not to mention what other offensive buffs are affecting the users, and the difference in damage index (say blaster range index vs dominator range index)
Then there are the tactically issues. A corruptor might not wand to ever enter a lock with a blaster, as doing so would prevent the use of healing/debuffing for the duration of the lock in, while the blaster would be immune to damage for others and as such would be far better off. Dominators and controllers would likely be even more displeased with entering lock in, as while they fought it out their crown control might wear off.
Then there is the thematically problems. How would something like two assault rifle users pair off? Would they start shooting each others bullets out of the air?
Finally there is the play style problem, Xemulas mentioned. To me this is really not that kind of a game.
So the player who reacts faster wins right?
So a player with a faster connection gets a distinctive advantage. Especially when the other player is one with a poor setup who struggles with lag issues.
Then there is the fact this is a mmorpg, not an arcade game from the past. Whoever wins in a fight here should NEVER be (fully) determined with the reaction speed of the players.

[/ QUOTE ]Hate to break the news, but most fights are down to reaction speed in CoX PvP. Doubly so when evenly matched.
As for the idea, I'll pass. Seems a bit Dragonball Z for my liking, and I was never that fond of the cartoon either.

Aye fights in all areas of the game are down, with a few exceptions, to reaction speed; in most cases: if you're slower than your enemy you lose.
As for the idea, it's nicely thought out but it sounds too much like a rhythm action game to me. My least favourite parts of CoD4 were when the dogs attacked you and you had to play Dance Dance Dogdeath to get rid, or die.
I do like the idea of a standoff between two locked characters though: that would be cool.

A fight between two would be nice, yes, but no button pressing. It's been pointed out before that this is a MMORPG, not trying to get the name of Midway developers on Robotron.
This is kinda a little wicked idea, that would be pretty much for show, but i think people might like it.
It's a suggestion for making an "Epic Match" with that i mean, 2 players in PVP who have the same Offensive powerset, will get into an "Epic Match" if they use the same powers on each other at the same time.
Like, if 2 Radiant Blast users uses Neutron Blast on each other at the same time, they will enter an epic match and have a "beam struggle" or if 2 Martial Arts uses gets in a fight, they will have a 1 on 1 duel.
While an Epic Match is on, other players cannot attack the players Matching

For example, a little bar will appears, where there are 3 bars towards each end, and a little ball is at the middle.
Then it might say "press 1" then the player who presses 1 fastest will get the ball slightly to his side, then next time i might be "Press 5" and the other player get it fastest, then the ball is moved back to the middle.
This will then keep up till one of them reaches his end, and gets to land the "finishing Blow"
The longer an Epic Match lasts, the higher is the damage output, but an epic match can only last a sudden ammount of time, like... 20sec, with a new key to press every 2sec.
If none of the players have reached there end by the end of the 20 sec, the 2 characters match will end.
If they are Ranged, nothing will happen, if they are Melee, they will be pushed apart from each other about 10 feet each.
I sadly know this suggestion would require ALOT of animation and work, and i kinda doubt it would ever be implanted, but i still think that i would post it, incase someone had an idea simular and might make a better one
