**Bad SG Form**
Naming and Shaming is against forum rules
Regardless the SG leader can set whatever rules like like about running in SG mode or not. Given that recently the Devs changed it so that you still earn some Inf even when SGed up there's now little reason not to run in SG mode, all my toons do.

You named the SG. I'd edit it out to be safe.
Not sure about your SG rules but alot of SG's have moved over to require SG mode all the time since you still earn inf.
I have proposed this myself to the SG im in but so far the leaders have decided to just keep it at a minimum amount earnt each month.
To answer you, No its not bad form if it was in the rules. If you aint happy with how a SG is run join another one or create your own.

TBH I'm fed up off GR's double standards, this is a discussion forum, and I am discussing this particular SG.
No names have been given, and I'd rather get back on topic that worry about anyone getting into a hissy fit about regulations.
Nothing against you Carni, always appreciate hearing your views tho...

There's no reason to name them though other than to bring shame upon them, you can have the exact same discussion by leaving their name out.
It serves no purpose to name them IMO and weakens any argument you could have about the validity of making the original post (ie : that you wanted to discuss SG policies in general. Instead it now just looks like a public attack on them).
I wasn't looking to discuss Sg policies, I was wanting to know if I was right to be [censored] off at getting kicked from a long standing SG because I was farming for Influence alone.
Carlsberg don't do Farming,

I wouldnt say it was bad form if that was the SG rule. I suppose he could have discussed it further before booting you, but would that have changed your mind about entering sg mode?
If not then the end result would have been the same.
We just ask members to stay in SG mode till the 30s, then whenever they can afford it, but everyone has different rules.

It depends.
Anyway if you "never heard from" them anyway what's the problem? You don't seem to interact with them in any way so what difference does it make if they kicked you or not? Maybe the fact none of you ever interacted is telling in itself?
Most SGs I've been in use the 30-something rule but they don't have too.
I left an SG before over a Prestige issue before, but in my case it was more how the SG calculated rankings based on Prestige earnings than anything else (they used just your highest ranked toon in the SG, which I felt was unfair on my chronic altisis).
No hard feelings on either side, I started my own SG for that toon so I could mess with the base editor and stayed in the SG chat channel and so on.
altho i dont agree with forcing members to be in sg mode all there toons life thats my personal opoinion and how i rum my own sg's
if the sg rules are that you need sg mode on always then it cant be considered bad form for removing a toon that broke the rules and simple fact is do you realy wont to be with an sg that considers its ability to earn above its members
There isnt a problem on earth that cant be solved with the proper aplication of hi explosive's

My thoughts on subject (AKA how I would respond if something like this happened on my SG) to help you see the other side too:
First must know the context:<ul type="square">[*]The member in question is going to stay out of SG mode for ever?[*]The member in question has other characters in my SG that like play often?[*]The member in question likes to team with other SG members and participate in SG events?
Then I should try to communicate with him/her:<ul type="square">[*]Is s/he plans to not earn any prestige for our SG anymore?[*]Does know that SG can give him/her the influence that s/he needs?[*]Is there another reason (than the obvious) that made him/her to stop helping the SG?
From what it seems, the SG you referring to, probably invite members that they don't know for the sole purpose of earning prestige. Unfortunately there are many SGs like that. If I were you, I would ask my friends about their SGs and their policies. If it met my standards I would ask for invite there.
I hope that my jabbering helped a bit.
P.S.: I don't agree either on the naming and shaming rule that the game EULA has (and not just GR or these boards), but it's the rules, I accepted them so I can be allowed to play and should be obeyed.
I pretty much see this is as a fair game. Being in an SG pretty much means you play by the rules of whoever is in charge. Not satisfied with the ruling, form your own SG and make your own rules. Or join one whose leader's ideals you can agree with.
Also, might have something to do with issues not directly related to you not going into SG-mode. Perhaps the leader just got tired of you on some personal level. And there is nothing wrong with that.

Just wanted to answer these questions =D
* The member in question is going to stay out of SG mode for ever?
Yea this toon is my farmer and would never be in Sg mode.
* The member in question has other characters in my SG that like play often?
I have chronic altism, I have created a good 15 - 20 Alts and all are in SG mode til 30, usually takes me 2 night to PL to 30
* The member in question likes to team with other SG members and participate in SG events?
I would love to if there were any, I use the SG for teleporters mainly
I am a kind, generous, and considerate SG member... I am not annoyed at not being in the SG, I am more annoyed at the way I was treated
As for EULA rules I stick to them as best I can, although I may have a temper at times... What girl doesn't :P

I think it says a lot more about your ex-sg than it does to you. Never chat and only concerned about prestige - you're a lot better off without them.
I'm a SG Leader & just to give you my point of view on the matter.
Our SG policy - Members to stay in SG mode until 30 & whenever they can after that. At times we ask for constant SG mode but normally just to get the last bit of Prestige for a large item, normally for one weekend at most.
Now we react to broken SG policy - If a member is not in SG mode at low levels we send a /t with a SG mode reminder as most ppl have just forgotten to turn it on with a new alt.
If we find a member still not in SG mode, we ask why & explain pre 30's aren't affected by SG mode. If after 30 we explain that we require SG mode for a weekend and give our reason and explain how the new item will benefit them.
If we have a member that doesn't use SG mode after this we look to see if they have alts earning Prestige. If yes we normally ignore the matter. If no, we talk to them and tell them they are receiving the benefits of the SG without giving anything back and that SG membership should be a two way benefit.
If they still refuse to enter SG mode the leaders will consider the matter and decide what is best. Demotion and loss of benefits of the SG or if needed kicking from the SG as a last resort.
As you can see from this it takes a while before we would kick someone from the SG and it rarely happens. There isn't that much we need in our base so we rarely ask 30+'s to enter SG mode now.
I don't like SG's that just recruit ppl for Prestige earning, I won't comment on you previous SG as I do not know their policy on recruiting but I will say that kicking you did seem a bit harsh to happen immediately, but may have been the end result after other steps were taken anyway.
I agree with the others that you shouldn't have named the SG in your OP. It doesn't help your arguement, it just looks like you are drawing attention to the particular SG.
Hope this helped you.

Out of curiosity, is there some kind of table or point of reference that describes the sliding scales of inf when in SG mode? I know you can earn inf when in SG mode at any and all levels now, but it would be helpful to see how it decreases. It would be peculiar if, at the levels you might want all the super-expensive uber-IOs, you can't earn enough inf to pay for them AND prestige to develop your expanding SG base. I don't know how much of a difference this all makes - and to a player like me, the differences may be negligible. I'm very curious to know, though.
AS a leader of a sg meself i thought i'd stick my oar in....erm....i mean make a vaild contribution to this chat..
>_>
<_<
Anyway..
In both of my sg's (Max Carnage and Max Bloodshed) there is the 30 somthing rule, but it's not a "or else" rule. theres two rank advancements based on prestige but they are both fixed targets, and only the first is needed to be able to use the sg salvage.
I've found that people who don't gain prestige can be very helpful to the sg but hardly raise prestige or farmers, or massive altists players. But this doesn't mean they would be out the sg, it just means they would be unable to use the sg storage.
We also have a time limit in being offline, which is mentioned in the sg rules, so that new people are able to join etc, some players stop using a certain alt and after a while they get kicked, but the gap for kicking depends on prestige (i.e. no prestige means you'd been kicked sooner than some one with prestige).
So things in many sg's depend on prestige, but it's not the be-all-and-end-all of it. some sg's i've been in asked you to be in sg mode till 30 or else, which is fine as i don't care about io's till at least 35+ (but thats me :P)
As mentioned before i also do gentle reminders about prestige mode to players who havn't gained any prestige, sometimes they're new and never knew about sg mode at all, or forgot, etc. Plus I tend to add a couple lines c&p'd from a notepad file that i mention everytime a new person joins
I've also found that "congratz"ing players on their promotions and the reason why at the same time gives the none prestige players a heads up on the matter, but isn't a "WHERES MA PRESTIGE? GO GET NOOOW!" heh

I agree with this that people that don't get prestige can be helpfull. There are other ways, organising SG events, helping new players, helping new alts, creating SG teams, etc... This is the main reason that our SG does not give promotions based on prestige alone. Promotions are earned by getting prestige along with helping others and the SG.

Just a quick point here....most SG say stay in SG mode till 30 because below 30 your inf earning is not affected by SG mode therefore there is no reason not to be in SG mode and for SG's that don't enforce SG mode after 30 it is the best time to earn prestige. This means a player out of SG mode before 30 is just lost prestige.
Nice to see this is becoming a discussion about SG prestige policy and not just a rant about this SG or that SG

Spag Bol's Sister is my avatar.
My farming toon Kawaiii, has been part of the "<removed by mod: name and shame is not allowed>" Sg for most of her career...
To start with I farmed to level an Alt, always in SG mode and more recenlty so i can afford some IO's.
I received a /tell mid farm from the SG leader saying, "please turn on SG mode"
Which of course dramatically cuts the influence I was working so hard to get.
Now I had more or less been the only active member for ages, and I am ingame ALOT... So I felt it particularly unfair to ask me to sacrafice my Inf for Prestige from an SG I never heard from anyway.
Upon my refusal I got a /tell saying,
"ok then, Bye"
and I was Swiftly booted from the SG.
Is this bad form?
I earned Prestige in the past, and I feel really annoyed now that I was booted > Grr
