Without wising to get in to a love in - I think this is a fab suggestion. There must be so many events that people have screen shots of that would be good to share. I know I have some of SG and community events that would be nice to share.
Do you think the idea could be expanded, so that there are galleries through the zones where players can go to view screen shots or look a statues of past heroes?
Like an art gallery where people can pay SG prestige to post a picture and more so to make a statue?

Depending on the size and type of statue, e.g. a large statue in gold would cost more then a normal size in marble.
About the size thing - I'm think along the line of not the actual "life" sizes, more like:
Standard - same size as the toon
Large - twice the size as the toon
The style of the statues could always recycle the emotes, anyone for a state of JW is panhandle pose?

I like this idea, and there are some lovely possibilities for amusing statue setups (a double-height granite statue of my Dark/Dark Corr doing the chicken emote has a bizarre appeal).
As others have said, modding of paintings could be an issue if any old JPG could be uploaded as a candidate. It'd be nice if there was a keypress (shift+Print Scrn?) which did something like "snap portrait" - i.e. stored a piccy of your current camera view internally at the server, at a hardcoded (rather low) resolution. Maybe 3-4 portrait slots per toon so there wouldn't be too much of a storage overhead, with anything selected as an actual base painting freeing up its toon slot.
That way you'd only be able to get in game scenes into paintings anyway, so there'd be no need for modding. Might need a bit too much work to implement, though, as I suspect there's no scene-rendering code server side at the moment.

Sound. I like it =] Having stuff that is more sort of 'SG specific' would be a very nice idea. As an example, a scene of an Arachnos squad in my KG base, or a big statue of a Founder in another group. Possibly use something like the statues in Atlas or something, which are basically scaled up Hero rigs/figures.

Be fair - the bases are pretty customisable at the moment - and are there not rumours of some i13 improvements?
Personally I'm hoping for the removal of base rent across all plot sizes - what the point in saving the city everyday and not having to pay for a decent size base?

True, they are very customisable, but, in the end, theres nothing that makes a SG base feel 'different'. I think pretty much everyone has a piece from the Freedom Phalanx or Arachnos, which means someone is getting rich off knockoffs...
But something group specific would be cool indeed. And, yes, we do have to wait for I13, I admit. But then we shall see.
As for rent...I can see the point in it. And tbh, its believable that you'd STILL get the petty beauracrats trying to leech more money from people =P But yes, in an ideal world rent would no happen. We shall see.

It would allow SG's to have a hall of fame feature, or a library of encounters. There maybe should be an option to click the photo and see a larger version of it expanded on the screen or if not that maybe clicking the photo/painting would bring up a dialogue box allowing some explanation of the painting (i.e. Player X Dinging 50, or Team of X,Y,Z taking down AV ???).
Statues. I would like to be able to create statues within the SG base. The statues would be created via the character creator tool but would have limited colours (Stone, bronze, silver, gold etc for complete look). Again this feature would add to the hall of fame feature I would like to be able to create. Maybe should be emote poses that the statue can pull so they are that little bit more customisable.
IMO it would encourage SG activities and open a whole new way of interacting with the SG allowing for SG competitions for most artistic view/shot, encouraging SG team photo shoots, and SG teaming to get great pictures during combat. It would also be a way of remembering our fallen allies, friends that have left, and characters that were fun but now deleted.
