Lockable threads
Because that's an admin level permissions thing. They're NOT going to give any users admin level permissions, no matter what.
It's also WAY too abusable.

What FFM said
and to add, it would be entirely possible for somebody to start a thread with a bad suggestion, get all their friends to chime in with support for said suggestion, then lock it before any counter arguments could be put.
They could then use that as "evidence" to back up their point in other threads
That's before you even begin to think about petulance: "Right you lot disagree with me so I'm locking this thread."
Thelonious Monk
All fair points - thought it had to be along those lines.
Thanks.
Well, no, it would only be on your own threads and you can already delete your own posts. However, it would need coding, I doubt it's an option built into the BBS software. If we're likely to be getting new BBS software (I have no idea if that's a rumour or some noted fact), it seems a waste of time.
It is, however, very abusable and unlikely to happen.
Better would be to add a comment field to the post reporting page, allowing someone to explain why they are reporting the post. You could then put "Please lock the thread, it seems to have run its course" or something similar. Again though, a waste of time if there is to be new BBS software.

Yeah. We'll be moving over to vBulletin forum software in the near future.

Sorry - been away for a few hours. Did something happen?
No, nothing happened. This is not the thread you are looking for.

GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

To be honest I do think this is a bad idea. Maybe some kind of voting system to get a lock like when playing other games on line you can vote to change the map. If say the thread gets a 50% vote to lock an alert is sent to the OP and if he disagrees that alert gets forwarded to a moderator to then decide.
I feel allowing us to have an input into moderation would allow a fairer system and also alert Mods to more problematic posts earlier.
Failing that just having an option to put an explaination onto the report a post feature would be a great aid to ourselves as a community and also to the mods.
I actually like Taurus suggestion, sounds like a much more sensible idea. A kind of 'veto' system. Given that, odds on, the OP will dissagree to the thread being closed (only imo) then alerting a mod sounds plausible, and might save them some hassle as well.
Again, I dont know how the mods work and such. Etc.

We do have an input into moderation, and an amazing number of people who scream about it when it's used. It's called the Notify Moderator button.
Now, I think said button should allow you to enter a reason why you think the thread, or post, should be looked at, but it is there.

That was part of the suggestion. Yep right there at the very end.
Sorry too clique, too we don't want you here, anyone who has been 'moderated' knows how frustrating it is (especially if no explanation is forthcoming). If say the community had closed ranks in such a way against you and Jade Warrior say for your overwhelming passion to cross the pond that seem to me to just be getting on everyone [Censored] then you would have had your threads closed, the upshot of this would probably two new threads 'The community are [Censored] heads' signed by u 2 and within 3 or 4 posts each half a dozen of us would end up in the 'Sin Bin' suspended or barred.
Power to the people- nice idea but at the end of the day power corrupts and peer pressure is great, a rather unfortunate formula IMHO. Lets just leave it the Pro's and be thankfully that we don't have to do there jobs.

I've done their job, on a much smaller scale, and it ruined an otherwise excellent gaming experience. Being impartial and having to work with the evidence you have instead of what you feel like is a real pain in the nether regions.

Just a short post this time.
I may be missing something here, so more of a question then a suggestion.
Why cant the person who opens a thread lock their own thread if the feel the need?
