Plant/Storm help
Welcome to the game and boards! Plant becomes exponentially better at lvl 8 with Seeds of Confusion. This will help you both solo and in teams, although you will still be low on damage for quite a while. Storm is a great secondary (and has good synergy with Plant), but a bit endurance-heavy and your damaging powers come late (35 and 38). In the mean-time you could slot Roots for a bit of damage (which is better than that of other controller AoE immobs) or even take Entangle and slot for damage. Freezing Rain at lvl 16 will help too, but definitely try to team as much as possible. Have fun!

Thanks. So it's a long slog before getting some extremelyeffective AoEs? Thought so :-( In the meantime both Roots and O2 boost seem to be well received.
Plant/storm really kicks off when you have seeds of confusion >freezing rain>roots spam combo, works well up until you get tornado and lightning cloud.
Thanks. Got Freezing Rain last night, and it's a great power ... but not working well with either roots or SoC. The damage from FR is low - and the knockdown seems to be cancelled by having your feet rooted to the floor With Seeds, the mobs tend to all bunch up, and I use Roots once most of them have hit melee with each other. On the other hand, Seeds is an absolutely wonderful power especially on a big team (was teamed with a Mind Controller last night and I wasn't sure which side the mobs were meant to be on - the minions and most of the LTs all seemed to be on ours).

And, most importantly, -Resist. The -Resist is the big hitter.
If you do SoC > Roots > Freezing Rain don't snow storm them. You want them hitting each other as much as possible (Freezing Rain does slow them down a bit but is counterbalanced by the increased hit rate and damage they'll do to each other).

What?
Are you saying Freezing Rain, without the PROC, doesn't do -resist? If so you're 100% wrong I'm afraid. FR has a huge -Resist in it, the same amount as Tar Patch, twice that of Disruption Arrow.
Red Tomax is ill at the moment but you can verify in Mids or Tal_Ns Illusion/Storm guide here
Freezing Rain is an absolute beast of a power for this reason.
I hadn't spotted the -Resist, thanks. That makes a huge difference. And I think the main use for Snow Storm is going to be bringing down irritating things like the Sky Raiders on the outside of Terra Volta so the roots can grab them.
The two powers that still confuse me are Carrion Creepers (which enhancements affect the creeper vines, and can I convince the vines to spawn more frequently?) and Hurricane (if hostile mobs get that close I'm running and rooting or strangling them - but that's more a playstyle thing I think). Actually, hurricane and gale to herd into tornadoes?
Oh, and City of Data claims a 30% resistance debuff (35% for defenders). Which is handy.
On Enhancements for Creepers, the answer in the US seems to be "unknown".
Because of the way the creepers spawn no-one is really sure if the Enhancement values are passed down the chain to them properly. I'd just go with 3 recharge and leave em off
Link to the thread in the US about it
Again, thanks. It looks like a very nice power anyway.
huh i always thought it was just -def. Thats awesome but is it working properly since i cant see it in the combat logs and theres no debuff icons swirling around unless the proc fires.

Easiest way to check it is just to do a test on a suitable enemy. Hit them with your hold and check the damage. Drop FR on them and recheck it (discounting Containment obviously).
Haven't used it myself in a while but I'd be surprised if its broken and no-ones said anything.
It was certainly doing -res when I was levelling my Mind/Storm but that was I4 time so lots of changes since then but I don't believe that's one of them
Mind of Gaia lvl 50 Defiant's first Mind/Storm 'troller.
Deadly Doc 50 Dark/Dark Corr
and lots more on Pinnacle,Union and Defiant
I'm new to the game and have two toons on each side - Heroside I'm running two controllers. The Illusion/Radiation one is working out very nicely (even if regular ghostying doesn't gain her that many exps, and she next gets an attack power at L18 - I'm going Superspeed at L14 and Health at L16 for Stamina at L20). But my plant/storm controller is struggling against anything other than single targets - which is exactly the opposite of the way I planned him. (On single targets he stranglers and follows up with throwing knives and brawl).
Currently L6 with Stranger, Roots, O2 boost, and hover. (Teaming helps, but the last blaster he teamed with hung round the truck at the start of the bank mish, and he couldn't take all the escapees solo). Is this a weak start or do I need groups or what?
