Rolling Story
Sounds like a cool idea. I started something like that on my sg forum a while back, however it was more open ended in that everyone just added what they wanted to the story when they wanted to.
Unfortunatly due to inactivity in the group its sort of died now but it was fun while it lasted. So I'd be up for taking part in this
(This is the RP story I mentioned for anyone interested)

Thanks.
Im slightly conscious that, following on from the discussion in the co-op comic thread, my mention of a two week timescale and a set order might put people off as it creates pressure that shouldnt be there.
The reason I suggested these was to keep things organised, but also to stop two writers seeing the last post and then both trying to up load the next bit. This obviously wouldnt be good for the story and there is nothing more disheartening than almost completing a piece only to find someone else has already uploaded something that nullifies your bit.
As an alternative to a set order and timescale heres another way to do it.
Once a part of the story has been uploaded to the story thread one of the writers (who is already contributing or is new), posts in the organising thread to say he/she would like to do the next bit. If they then find, a couple of weeks later, that RL has got in the way they can just shout up and someone else can fill the gap. If no one has stepped forward to write the next bit within a couple of weeks, then the author of the last piece or the organiser does another bit.
This also means that with no set order a writer isnt backed in to a corner by being given something to follow that they dont have any ideas for.
I'd be interested in taking part in this too, and maybe this could form the start of the co-op comic thing if enough artists are interested. What we end up with could maybe be turned into the storyline and dialogue for the comic.
Having thought on it realistically I'm not sure if I'll have the time until mid-September, and maybe not even then, to put enough time into running the co-op comic thing so this could kill two birds with one stone
Okay Guys,
As there have been a couple of people who have showed interest in the rolling story and there are a reasonable number of people posting stories in the forum at the moment, Ill give this a starting punt and see where it gets to.
This thread can be used for comments, and for those who want to put there names forward as the next writer. Ive created a story thread [linky] and the done the first instalment.
Im not going to put any rules in place. Each section can be as short or as long as you fancy, it can move the main narrative along or it can start a side bit that links in to the story.
The only thing I would suggest is that whoever is going to do the next part shouts up in this thread (so that others dont start writing and the posts then get mixed up). If you do offer to write the next bit but are struggling to get it done, again just shout up and someone else can take over. Its perfectly understandable if real life gets in the way.
Hopefully Ive give you something to get your creative teeth in to. Now, go do your thing.
Nice start there LeighB
I don't have time to write at the moment but I would like to get involved in the future, after it has got going a bit more perhaps.

Actually I think I'll go out on a limb here as noone else has so far and throw something into this, I'll contribute a chunk or 2 shortly
I cannot guarantee it will not be strange or sinister ;P
Yay, thank you.
Strange and sinister are fine.
OOh I like the sound of this, used to do somethign similar on the Webcrawler boards, which was a great deal of fun. Count me in for a future segment, I'll watch what happens foist then throw an oar shaped device into the mix.
I don't wanna save my soul now,
I just wanna lose control,
And even if it takes a lifetime, to learn:
I'll learn!
I have something to add, its not excellent, just a short chunk to introduce my character and hopefully move things along a bit. However ThestarScreamer said they'd take a shot (which i hadn't noticed when I wrote mine) so ive removed it for the moment and will await word from ThestarScreamer first

@Clara Finch
Heh, I just did the same thing. I moved the story with Rainn on a bit and threw in a sinister revelation.
I deleted it for now though, seems I was jumping the queue
I'll probably contrebute to this from time to time, a nice idea, I am something of a idle writer though so it takes me a while.
The end is just a new beginning, Goodbye all my coh friends and even the enemies, its been a blast I will miss you all. Thank you Paragon team, you gave me a home from home I will always appriciate it.
Oh, stuff waiting in the wings, and Im liking this way of bumping a thread without adding a new post.
There have also been a load more stories posted over the last week, so I can see myself sat in a park this weekend reading.
So... is it ok to add my part now or are we waiting for TheStarscreamer still?

@Clara Finch
Give Starscreamer a couple of weeks as I dont want there to be any pressure on any of the contributors and two weeks seems like a reasonable length of time.
okie dokie that's fair enough. Bagsie the spot if Starscreamer doesn't want it any more by then though

@Clara Finch
It's all yours, Finch.
Soz for not adding sooner, my bit can be added at any chronological point really Just wanted to add some impending horror/tragedy for others to run with... adding as we speak
EDIT: Ok I promised sinister - now ya got it Decided I wanted to make it have wide scope with a serious chance of doom. I also REALLY hope I ain't screwed up anyone elses ideas with this lol Whats more amazing is I included absoleutely none of my own chars!
Whilst musing with my morning cuppa I had me a thought - I wrote my bit after yours, but atm wrote it a bit "broad" spectrum to allow people to tweak existing ideas and progress it forward. However, how many characters overall do people think we should incorporate? And maybe listing any specific about the chars used/going to be added like personality traits they have etc for others to carry on.
I tried of a bit of emotional see-sawing and a dark tone for my 1st contribution, but may be an idea to hammer out a smidge. I'm not meaning spend weeks debating it all, I just mean a few pointers to give other writers and myself more of a railed guide than anything set in stone.
With that rant added - whos next in line to add their 8 peneth worth to the story?
Im easy either way with regards to authors giving direction or background notes on their bits. For my part I enjoy the different way people interpret stuff. One of the things I like about rolling stories is the fact that I can write something, another author looks at it in an entirely different way and the next bit I write is nowhere near what I was expecting to do as its gone in a new direction. Its a good challenge and makes me get out of my comfort zone.
The same goes for the number of characters or plot lines. Obviously if someone introduces a new plot line Id kind of expect them to have some intention of tying it in with the other bits of the story if no one else picked it up, otherwise it might as well just be a different rolling story. (Having two or more completely different stories in the same thread would just make it difficult to read.)
If anyone wants to post some notes on characters they have added Ill certainly work with them, but Im not worried if someone turns my cute little school girl in to a rampaging psycho flip-[censored] robot.
Star Screamer, just got around to reading through your piece and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I already like the way youve added an Arbiter to the story. Now Im going to have to go and read up on more Villains stuff (Ive only just started playing the red side so dont know much about the different NPCs) for when I think about my next bit.
Im looking forward to the next couple of bits, Finch then BF I think, to see how things go or what other characters are going to be added in to the mix.
Info: http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Arbiter
A hero side example is in the Faultline arc - Arbiter Sands.
But thanks, I chose an arbiter specifically for everything they represent and the fact it go off in so many directions. Look forward to seeing where it all heads next and look forward to getting more for whatever I'll add next.

Just giving this a kick to find out if anyone is still interested. I am, but I dont think itd be right for me to write every entry myself.
I'm still interested, though my contrebutions would be probably intermitant this idea though is sound.

Rolling Story
For something different and to encourage the writers here, I was also thinking about a rolling story. Back in the mists of time, when a Stegosaurus was still made with Stickle Bricks, I used to be involved in a few rolling stories on a BBS on FidoNet. I have never seen one on here, but if Ive missed it in my years of lurking we could resurrect that or start a new one.
For those of you who are unsure what a rolling story is, it is quite simply a story where each writer does a few paragraphs (or more if they fancy) and then the next writer follows on. This might sound like something difficult, but its actually rather easy to keep the flow going (and coherent). There is an order for the writers and usually a time scale to complete each section. If writers are on holiday, ill or caught in a Max Mosley S&M scandal (allegedly), it just moves to the next writer.
To keep it organised there should be two threads: one for admin, holiday notices and feedback; one for the actual story.
If you havent written anything before or would like to hone your skills, this is a great way of doing it. Its ideal for all levels of ability and new writers can join when they want by just being added to the bottom of the order.
Im open to any other suggestions for organising it, and Im also more than willing to set it up and start it off. Now it just needs a show of hands three would really be the minimum to start it off.
