Animated Hair

So, unless we get a substantial engine upgrade I seriously think Animated Hair won't be on the cards.

CoX could definitely do with an engine upgrade after 4 years, especially with direct competition coming up in 2009/10.
[/ QUOTE ]
So approximately 3 months after the "competition" arrives, expect a MASSIVE Issue release including new engine based on Crysis or something

Noo! Not an engine like Crysis! As much as we'd love it imagine the massive overhaul people will to do on their computers just to get that CoX to work! =P
But back to the lag issue, ahem, yeah, there'd be a lot of lag, if what I heard about i13 is true and there are Nemesis raids replacing the Rikti ones then animated hair won't help with the lag issues, especially when certain people (me) complain about Fake Nems KB and stun which seems to never wear off on me cos they pick on me, but back to the point. We would love it, but there'd be too many lag issues.

Where did you hear that? Sources please! A link would be useful
Actually ReclusesPhantom, having read CryTek's PDF on the subject, CryEngine2 will quite happily work on/with DX9.
And it should work on DX8 only with less detail.
That whole Crysis DX10 issue was caused by it only being setup to use DX10 code, hence the user modded .ini patches to tell it to use DX8/9 made the demo work on those too.
Also the current CoX engine capability and effects seem very, very similar to CryEngine 1's.
So hopefully this is a future upgrade worth having, as long as they allow for DX9 code.

of course it works with DX9, it has to be able to run the on the 360...
Cass_, I know but it was technically in response to ReclusesPhantom's:[ QUOTE ]

crytek is a bit to strong, so is the GTA4 engine.
i think that, with what is possible, they should instead enhance there own engine.
it's something Anet is doing also, to create GW2.
if NCsoft or cryptic can do that, then there is no need for buying rights for a new engine and also no need for the struggle fitting it on your pc.
the specs will get a bit higher, but i don't think the specs will breach the specs of GW it self.
Cryptic have done that, it's what they are using for CO.
If people are worried about CoX becoming to system intensive, then why dont they do what CCP did to EVE-Online and be able to use two different egines. One (old one trinity 1) dx9 and the new engine (trinity 2) dx10.
Then can let people choose what engine is best suit for the pc they use.
The problem with a new engine for something like City of Heroes is that it'd require new art assets virtually across the board.
Not only that - but you'd (in theory) have features with the new engine like power customisation that you wouldn't in the old one, so even if it's optional a lot of people will end up with the short end of the stick.
heh, if only the whole CO idea is moved away for COX 2 :P
I heard it off a team member in-game, Valk, sorry =P

Actually the idea of head capes would allow for things like a Foreign Legionaire's cap and feathered hats as well as the aforementioned hairstyles.
Mind of Gaia lvl 50 Defiant's first Mind/Storm 'troller.
Deadly Doc 50 Dark/Dark Corr
and lots more on Pinnacle,Union and Defiant
