But surely my weakness' is the fact that without pets I have no damage or resilience

[/ QUOTE ]

This can only be a weakness if there is a reason why you would be without pets...

I really should do something about this signature.

It's a matter of playstyle, MMs are just not for some people - no offense meant, I'm just assuming by your posts that you're not the type of person to play a MM in the sense of preference.

But hey, look at Corruptors. Virtually the same AT as a MM powerset-wise, only with no pets (and therefore no BG mode). In return, more/stronger attacks. Try one of those if you haven't already.

i get what you're saying, but perhaps i think you dont understand why i choose which arch type to be (which is understandable because i havent told you).

unlike a good deal of players that have aproched me in game, im not playing to get to lvl 50 as fast as i can, i'm not here for xp farming, no sir.

I'm here for the story, which is why my first character was a natural martial artest/ super reflex scrapper, i liked the idea of an ordinary bloke doing the hero thing. when CoV came out i look over the power sets, saw some possibities, and when i saw a power set with 2 pistols, i imediatly fell in love, i've always wanted to play a gunslinger

so if they ever add dual pistols to curropters, then yeah, maybe i'll play that, untill then...

You can build a petless gunslinger MM. It will have a harder time, but it is certainly do-able.

im not sure where people get the idea that a MM is defenseless without pets because there not even without pets they have a a few all be it week attackes and a entire secondary to draw on and can easily take 2 or 3 minions without pets. but what MM is without pets (yes i know there are blasterminds out there but there a special case) having any pet out even without upgrades increases your ability to do damage and survive incoming damage

As others have said just summoning all your pets as you male your way to the first spawn will increase your hit points thanks to body guard then while your team mates begin the attake you can throw out some debuffs and upgrade your pets while in turn your pets will protect you and open fire on anything the should attake you

Remember you don't have to upgrade all your pets at the same time upgrade the most appropriate pet first if your on a team and needing damage upgrade your damage dealer if your gona need enhanced survivability then upgrade your buffer/debuffer

Would mean using power slots you other wise would use for pets to upp the damage out put. Leadership (assault and tactics... vengeance), Jump (combatjump) is recommended.. Speed (hasten), and fitness (health + stamina).

You're secondary is mostly buff or debuff. I would recommend dark miasma... as it gives a heal and some very good debuffs.. but pick any. And don't forget the patron shield at lvl 41.

- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

Its odd really, I played a MM in the beta got to 40 with the level bump. I played a MM to 40 ish in live then went on sabbatical, since I returned I just cannot play her for more than an hour or so without getting to the point where I just want to delete her entirely.

Partly its down to the summoning and buffing (especially if you only realise you have the desync bug after you did that). Partly its the downright awful AI, it seems like it got downgraded while I was away, but is more likely my own poor memories. However with the massive amount of damage effects (Fire Patches, Caltrops, Monkey Farts, etc) in the late game I spend more time dying as a result of the pets going berserk than I do killing stuff (it seems).

I'm at 47 now and I know once I hit fifty I will never play her again, planning on getting a name change then and reusing the name with a character that is actually fun all the way to fifty not just when I don't have to fight the AI of the pets at every step.

Obvious first piece of advice: I'd recommending not playing an MM if you're not enjoying it. No one's handing out any Man Tokens for it.

I'd seriously consider slotting your upgrade powers for EndRed and Recharge, especially your second tier one (2 EndRed 2 Rech I find works). This will improve your readiness to fight.

As Liz_Bathory points out sometimes you will walk into a mish with bads right on top of you. A RL chum of mine that runs the phenomenally successful Legion Reanimator (Necro/Poisons) calls this hot dropping, and it's a useful art to master. If you can deal with a hot drop you should have less problems with an unexpected decimation of pets, or throwing up a shield of pets to cover your retreat on a team wipe.

I also strongly recommend looking at Khabia's Numpad Binds - I've found them incredibly useful with my Bots/Dark, setting up independant stances (and attacks) with different tiers of pets. It's worth learning how keybinds work just for this IMO.

Finally - know your pets. Which ones benefit the most from the two different upgrades, which are your utility pets (Lich, Guardbots, Medic, etc), defense screen, balls forward aggressors and so on. This will help your flexibility when teaming with different ATs under different conditions (indoor/outdoor map, banks, rikti raids, street sweeping, etc).

Doesn't help your combat capability much, though

Something I did on my MM, because he had a spare power choice and there wasn't much else I wanted, was to take Hasten mainly for the buffing at the start of a mission (and it even comes in handy sometimes in combat). I also turn off my toggles while summoning/buffing, which ensures my end lasts until all of the bots are buffed. Then after buffing I use Rest and while in Rest I turn on all of my toggles (to make best use of the time).

It is still an annoyance to spend 2mins buffing at the start of a mission - and I don't like going into fights with them only partly buffed because I need that AE damage, and the 2nd upgrade that grants it is always the one slowing me down most in the set-up. And that pre-mission set-up is the main reason I don't play my L50 MM much (only a few times since I7, and that was to get the Infiltrator badge and Watchman accolade recently for custom weapon unlocks) and am thinking of deleting my L16 Merc/Traps, with no plans to make any other MMs.

A friend of mine actually has the whole summon/buff process macro'd using a combination of keybinds and his keyboard's macro features - he alt-tabs and does some forum reading while everything gets set-up. Maybe that's the workaround, though I wouldn't be upset if the Devs made the upgrade powers into an AE (like Accelerate Metabolism on my corruptor) - though I guess that might get costly end-wise if you only needed to upgrade a single replacement pet after losing it in a fight.

the best thing i find to speed up setup for a master mind pet is use Force of Nature , it a nice easy Accolade to get from Mayhen mission but my opion you only need to get this at or by lvl 32

The 100 Signature Heroes requirement isn't so easy without some farming, even though signature heroes outside of the mayhem count for it (Farming Infernal's demons seems to be the preferred way to farm it, seeing as they're tagged as Vindicators like he is).

In fact the only reason my MM has that Accolade is because back in I7 I did so many LRSFs with him.

I'm well aware of all that, I just dispute that the accolade can be considered "easy" to get, especially when compared to the really easy ones like Demonic and Invader.

Even getting the Arsons can be an added pain if you're unlucky enough not to get many during your mayhems as you level up.

I guess it's all a matter of perspective though, and dependent on playstyle - the accolades pretty much all take some degree of farming, prior knowledge, or going out of your way (compared to normal gameplay) to get.

And we're off-topic

I never said I wasn't enjoying being a MM, i actually do enjoy sending my thugs out to shoot the [Bad Word] outa my enemies while i sit back and cackle (and pick off the odd stragler )
