LRM can be well slotted with just 4 slots and the right IOs. Sleep can take a very cheap purple set.
I find little need for LRM, but it is fun, though I find just as little need for Sleep grenade but I get great set bonuses
LRM Rocket is a beautiful AOE snipe; with Aim and Build Up is capable of knocking the stuffing out of most mobs (and knocking them down too).
As an AR/Dev, you don't get either so I guess isn't as useful an opener apart from the knockdown (not back). As said above, 4 slotted LRM works fine for me (2 detonation, 2 air burst), though you could slot it with force feedback chance for recharge, posi damage proc, kinetic damage proc etc (though guess these would be better in your M40 Grenade as it has a faster recharge).
Sleep grenade isn't much use group wise but does allow good set bonuses from call of the sandman (+6.25% recharge at 5 slotted) and you can slot call of the sandman chance to heal self (lovely in an AoE). The recharge is too long on both though
The recharge on these is nasty. My Mids build for Lead Hose claims about 32s for Sleep grenade (5 Sandman IOs and 1 recred) and 83s for LRM (4 Posi and 2 recred). However that's at lvl 50 with hasten on and a close to 24% recharge bonus from sets so actual values will be closer to 40s and 95s respectively.

Please could someone who has tried both Sleep grenade and LRM from the munitions mastery set, give me an idea what they are like to use?
I've been trying to weigh up which one of them to slot, I'll got enough slots for only one of them with my build.
I figure sleep grenades will give me some added control, no redraw time (Its for an Assault Rifle/Devices blaster) and looking at the hero designer I can fire one off roughly every 60 seconds, for a 47 second sleep effect, generally I think it will mesh quite well with my build.
On the other hand, the LRM missle will add some damage to my build, will look really cool, but the bad sides are weapon redraw time, long recharge and its complete overkill for soloing.
Any advice?
