SS/Fire is a great distraction as part of a PvP team - a bloke on fire with a noticable fire aura drops in the middle of the Heroes, knocks over everyone without kb protection with footstomp (less likely with Steadfast/Karma: kb prot enhs), then sets everyone on fire with Burn, continues to annoy them with Blazing Aura, Knockout Blow and Haymaker.

SS/Fire probably is better at PvE than one-on-one PvP, but it's pretty hillarious on a PvP team.

I've been working on this question for a bit now and I've been levelling an ENG/ELEC viciously for pvp purposes.
There are a few holes but they can be filled with IO's.

There is, however. no better feeling than fighting a tank and detoggling him cos hes got so much stuns stacked on him, taking the time out to 2 shot that annoying blaster trying to jump on his bandwagon and then watch the tank run away - and thats at level 35 vs lev 50 tank. Cant wait to get this one up to lev 50. It is a flavour of the month build but that doesn't mean it isn't fun. Roll with a speed booster or a thermal rad corr and you'll see what I mean. Get aid self in there though, im struggling without it in PVP because I wanted air sup for pve purposes while i levelled. Take hasten superspeed and combat jumping for io purposes (stealth/+to-hit/+runspeed etc.) Make one and spend every hour thinking about how to squeeze that bit more out of it.

Currently I'm working on a build that when done will have +46% acc bonuses from IO's as well as +47.5 recharge (lightining reflexes + crushing impact bonuses + lotg +recharge) 117.5& rech including hasten. My Energy transfer will be up in seconds and thats not including base buffs before a good pvp session (also force of nature +20% rech)

Watch this space.

Ok time for me to chime in with my brutes - they are far from being PvP monsters or PvE gods but they are uber fun:

Starbarricade elec/invun 25
Starshrapnel dual blades/elec 20

If you want obscure quirky fun then I recommend both ^^

On the topic of just plain fun builds, the only melee toon I've been able to have fun with (besides my freaky Melee Dom and Melee Mastermind) is my Dark/Dark level 38 Brute. Neither are particularly the best in PvE or PVP (I am a delicate flower when confronted by PVP regulars) but it's always interesting. The main advantages are thusly: 1: You have to outheal your enemies to stay alive. With a couple of life-draining attacks in your arsenal, you'll need them to come back from the brink of death, most likely a couple of times while playing in a particularly mission. But it does keep things interesting. The other thing is that Dark/Dark is the only Mez-crazy brute option I've seen. While I have to have stamina and a lot of recovery IO bonuses to keep everything running, the fact that enemies get hit by fear and stun by just standing next to me is a blast and stupid-useful when teaming. All your hits debuff enemy accuracy (as well as one of the auras) and your level 32 attack is an immobilization on top of everything. Bah, check out the wiki, but I totally recommend it for quirky fun as well.
