Well, my guy being injuried in a ship crash would be alot easier for his back story.

Posted

Given that the ship is the Haven Novae, I take it it's just one ship that's made it to Paragon City (or even Earth) at this time (could be the first, or the only one... oooh plot potential? )

The reason why only 8 make it on what I assume is a seed/colony/evacuation ship... would be explained as a crash... perhaps even a (partial) break up in the atmosphere (which would allow for other groups elsewhere for plot reasons?)

Also makes for a reason why 'we' stay, where as some might find more hospitable habitat on other planets.

PS... does some one else ponder an ice themed character for this?
If so, would make sense to be of similar race?

If that's the case, I'll drop my character into that group as an ancillary survivor from a seperate escape pod, if you'd all allow me.

She's the ruler of her planet, so it'd make sense for her to have her own ship or escape pod to ensure her survival. She's also fairly self-centered, so if you guys want a bad-guy I play those pretty well too. :P

Indeed, the idea was it was the lone ship that has survived, although if anyone's got any ideas for what's happened to the rest, feel free to fire away. A partial breakup is probably most convinient, too.

The idea was that the ships were last minute preperations, rather than something that had been planned for.

A break up in the earths atmosphere sounds about right...

Put it this way... if we're talking about sub-light or faster than light travel the ship's inhabitants will have to have been cryogenically frozen for a considerable amount of time, depending on exactly how fast you make the ship (and how much you bend the boundaries of physics).

Either way, I'd figure also that the design of the ship would be much more designed for an extended stay in deep space, not exactly designed for re-entry into orbit.

So what we have is a collection of eager-to-land, groggy aliens who have a ship that's possibly anywhere between 10 to 10,000 years old by now that isn't hasn't been designed to take the strain of re-entry and landing. They could've also sustained damage from the astronomical blast-wave they must have ridden from the death of their sun.

The ship breaking up in re-entry is the best explanation that I would choose if I wanted to explain this.

More questions that this raises though is:

Did the ship make faster than light travel?
Was making it to earth planned from the start or a plot alteration once it was detected as habitable?
How far away is this Sun that exploded?

Alright, my Grav/Kin, being able to warp the fabric of time and space, has the convinient solution! By pulling the space in front "closer" and pushing the space behind "further", he's able to make the ship move in a reasonable time, and avoid complicated physics. It's his inherant. But break up is agreed, at least due to impact from the nova.

Just a few ideas to play with or dismiss as you like:

How about that there was an entire fleet of escape ships, but travelling such vast distances, there was no way to predict all of the asteroids and debris in the way. At some point, the Haven Novae hit that meteor/asteroid problem, and it is assumed that the rest of the fleet may have too. It is possible that you were intended to be safe in stasis for the trip, all pre-planned and computer controlled, and so were awoken to havoc, with a lot of debris around, and some extensive damage to the ship and many of its systems. You have no idea if you were the only ship damaged, or the only one to survive... In fact, only the gravity controller's immense powers saved you.

Can you expect the rest of the fleet to seek you? Will they assume your ship destroyed? Or are you the sole survivors?

This offers the possibility that the player who wants a 'planetary governor' character could have also been involved in the meteor/asteroid catastrophy, their private space-yacht destroyed, and forced to put themself into an escape pod that you barely managed to rescue, against all odds. (offers the interesting turnaround of a person used to great power now 'owing' you all, and almost being the stowaway and charity case of the group)

But Yea I'll give more thought toward it now since I'm done my first week =D

This is just a suggestion but since your dealing with a Super Nova you can use all sorts of super science to just ignore plot contentions.

why one ship? perhaps it was the last to leave and due to the:

Solar wave of the xploding star was knocked much further along the course than the others

Intense Radiation outbursts of the star had its guidance systems corrupted beyone repair so despite desperate attempts to fix it the ship left the fleet to go its own way

Was hit along the way by some sort of warp radiation or graviton pulse of singularity event horizon that some how caused only the one ship to end up in the Solar System.

Just use the classic comics super science and throw big words at the problems until it kinda sounds like it making sense ((Even if it really really doesn't ;p))

Well, if we're still working out origins here, how about this for one:

The characters were part of a small Galactic Union that was, unfortunatly, contained entirely within one solar system, but on many worlds. Theri combined scientists knew that their sun was going to go nova within a fairly short period of years (Somewhere within 100-200 years), and as such comissioned the construction of large colony ships. The first one, the Haven Novae, was constructed and launched mere weeks before the second ship, but only a few days before a rather uncareing race decided to use their star as a test for their latest super-weapon, causing a premature supanova event.

The Haven Novae, it's passengers and crew blissfully unaware of the complete ahnialation of their respective races while in suspended animation, got hit by the wake of the dieing star, and was flung thousands of light-years off on a different heading. Misfortune followed, however, as the wake caused more internal damage than external, and several of the stasis tubes malfunctioned or broke down. Once the tubes opened after the ship encountered the first habitable world in it's path (Earth), and the team thinking that they were the only remaining survivors of their ship, they shuttle/drop pod/teleport down to the surface, leaving the Haven Novae in orbit.

*****

So, that good enough? Gives us a common ground starting point, a reason to start off scattered around for if everyone went down to scout out different areas, and the potential for other survivors, both helpful and hostile from the Haven Novae, to follow later. And it still leaves us as the only survivors 8D

That's better, i think we could do with some form of planetary union. Makes it easier to explain why it went around the planets...

I think it would help if we posted a kind of small thing about our race? So then it's not like, a TOTAL surprise, and we've got something to work off...

Well my Warshade, originally had an Alien host which was badly injuried when the crash occured, having been found by the locals he was immediately taken to Galaxy city where the warshade "offices" are. There he was given another host but he did not take to it very well which resulted in energy scarring the tissues (reason why around my guys eyes are purple) His original alien host died though after the kheldian left him. The reasons for why he is a warshade and not a Peacebringer are a mystery for anyone but himself though.

Got my basic toon down.

Empathy Defender, named Teremity. Gentle nature, dislikes attacking things so heals. Sort of etheral... uses invisibility and stuff like that. Insectoid for the moment, until I come up with anything better/else.

Thanks to Ent too.

Mr. Galaxy, part of the Aereaix race, a people with a mastery of gravity who's contempt for the laws of physics got them into a damaging war. Since then, they became a much more gregarious and curious people to avoid letting history repeat itself.

Nhilo is from a world where flaura become the most dominant life-form, not fauna. They developed a system similar to that of the mammals, one of bi-pedal movement, so that they could move quickly across their world, remaining in the light side of their fast-spinning globe. Being of a low-gravity world, they are sluggish in a nornal gravity environment, and so have to wear space suits to be able to operate on the other worlds (and ships) of the Collective.

Members of Nhailo's race have the inherrant ability to manipulate the earth and stone under their feet with long, strong roots, and, once accostomed to their suits, can be quite swift.

(( oo, first post ))

Ussuskimo's race have no name for themselves but are known by many names to others, either by the individual names of the 20+ tribes on the planet or as 'lizards' etc. Ussuskimo is part of the albino and rarest tribe and was their leader and was considered a 'super-powered' being among his people. All of the lizard-people are generally valued as good soldiers, leaders and experts in martial combat, they're fairly intellegent but due to a soceity revolving mainly around war their other aspects are slowly dissapearing, art, music etc.

(( Oh dear me... I've started something...
Here's what I've got so far and it's a work in progress... ))

Gelo is a the planet furthest from the sun and is covered in ice. Luckily, one side always faces the sun so that there is at least a somewhat habitable half of the plant. Still, the cities are underground where the people draw from the thermal energy.

The Gelosian government is a fairly complex almost feudal hierarchy. This hierarchy is based around the holy number of 8. There are 8 underground cities, each with 8 ‘noble’ families, or Houses.
The First Houses of each city (called Circles in some older documents or references) has a seat on the Council of Eight, with the Ruling Elder of the First City acting much like a combination of King and President.

Gelosians are a small in height but have a high mass none the less. Most of their race have the ability to bend ice to their will, usually by touch but some even through thoughts. Gelosians are a race of hunters, not in the least as vegetation is minimal and most resources they use come from the animals they hunt.

They craft armour and environmental suits out of the exo skeleton of one of the insectoid creatures that inhabit the world to better protect themselves from the harsh environment, as well as other environments.

Their tools and weapons are simple by comparison, mostly because the cold makes most moving parts reliant tools prone to failure due to freezing. Relying there for more on strength and leverage to get the job done. This created a mindset promoting simple reliability of intricate efficiency.

So, hows this all set then? Are we going to go for a preliminary thing on Monday, for example? The monkey bar in Pocket D can make an adequate stand-in for the Haven Novae's stasis chamber, or something...

This monday's good for me too. I assume either 7:30 or 8:00?

We could put a"Haven novae" sg up and run the base as the crashed ship.

I think I've got a spare character that can be used to do that...

So, today... 7.30ish?
Where?

I suggest the Galaxy City SG portal, whether we use an SG or not... it's at least a good spot to gather, no?

Galaxy Girl portal is good. We can set the base up for next week, with Gorbaz's help, if it's still available. But yeah, trickle in at 7:30, with a mind to be there by 8. Gives some leeqay if you get home and don't read this message. (But how will you know it's because you don't read the message unless you read the message?)

i may be late today guys cause of lots of activites blah blah blah, which are going on late into the day, hopefully i will be back by 8 but you know... just as a warning =P

+ Really enjoyed the session yesterday! was great fun, can't wait to get round to interacting more with the other RP groups and heroes =D

Last night we had the first night of the Haven Novae survivors.

Mr. Galaxy – the Aereaix – was one of the first to awaken from the stasis pods, and has been working diligently to restore what he could of the Haven Novae. Working both to revive others from their hibernation and restoring ship systems.

Nhailo, of a floral race was among the first to be awakened. She spend most of her time outside the ship and observing what she could. She remained hidden as best she could, though.

Ussuskino – ‘the lizard’ – stayed with the ship, protecting it from any that would pillage it.

Teremity was recently recovered from her hibernation, no doubt her abilities with healing will help speed up the recovery of others from the deep sleep.

He’klah Tnark – the Gelosian – was also recently awakened. The survivalist hunter would no doubt prove useful in adapting to this new world, for how ever long it might be their residence.

With the five now awakened (a healer, hunter and warrior present), time was ripe to discuss the situation.
The Haven Novae was severely damaged before or during the landing. Though Mr. Galaxy had managed to get some vital systems up and running.

They decided to go out and explore, and keep an eye out for useful things.
Mr. Galaxy and Nhailo wanted to greet the locals with friendly greetings.
Tnark and Ussuskino felt more like capturing and interrogating one or two of them for answers. Reasoning that as the weaker ‘house’, it would be prudent to be cautious.

In any event, they set out and explored the surroundings. No human was captured and interrogated, though. Most seemed unconcerned about the off-worlder presence however. They did come upon a group of people in matching colours playing with one of the other humans. When Mr. Galaxy greeted them, he was met with violence. Ussuskino and Tnark were more then ready for it, though and the group was quickly dispatched, even the one who ran for reinforcements. The odd manners of the one who was played with, and her words led the group to reason that the ‘red jacket clan’ was a rogue element of that world. They dispatched several groups of the Rogue Clan and received the gratitude of some of the locals.

Looking for landmarks, the scouting group saw the Galaxy Girl statue. Tnark wondered if it was alive, his diminutive size makes a lot seem large, and he remembered the gigantic trees of some world. Luckily, it was merely a statue! They went to investigate and found the plaque, which Mr. Galaxy read after repairing a translator that Tnark had with him.

After some speculation, they went over to an information terminal. What a splendour of information that held! Mostly just a map and arrest records…
Instead they prompted to ask one of the locals. Over by the statue was an important looking individual. The group decided that since Mr. Galaxy looked the most like the locals, he would be the one to talk and ask the questions.

Answers were had, some were more confusing then others. They decided to continue their scouting.

While on their scouting, the sky turned green. Was it night? Was it something else? The siren made them jumpier then they already were. They decided to take up a defendable position. It took a while before the Rikti teleported in and the battle was upon them!
Sadly, surprised and outnumbered, the group was eventually defeated. Ussuskino found the battle most exhilarating! Teremity the pacifist was the only one who walked away from that encounter as the others teleported to the Haven Novae’s medbay.

And lucky they did because the Rikti soon came snooping by the ship!
But now with a better grasp of the situation and their opponents the team held their ground against the attackers.
Mr. Galaxy and Tnark guiding their comrades with tactical orders and using gravity and ice to keep the most dangerous opponents out of the fight. Nhailo fought to defend her group. Teremity healing where needed. Ussuskino battled with an almost berserker bloodlust.

Tnark’s environmental suit was damaged and Teremity was getting fatigued so they went back in the ship while Mr. Galaxy, Ussuskino and Nhailo went to check out trouble in ‘Orion Beltway’

---------

The above is my take on the evening we had.
Feel free to point things out that I’ve forgotten or got wrong

Oh, to those that signed up but weren’t there…
Please post if you still want to join or not. If we don’t hear from you by Friday, sorry but your spot will be opened for others who are interested.

We already have an easy to use excuse: Stasis pods only just opened.
Or come up with an other plausible reason (some have been mentioned already)
