I dont rate duels. They are okay for practise/experience/fun but I do feel teams are where its at and even then they can be biased to things other than skill.
People swap to another toon for the easiest possible win or to avoid a total dismal loss, some may think "ah thatll be challenging for my (insert here)" but thats rare.
If I am on my Tanker in RV and see an MM I tend to attack them, its better to get them before they get you but thats about all my it for pvp and I gain nothing in the way of any joy whatsoever from it. A team fight well thats different as I gain alot of joy from team anything!

More experienced fighters will ask your powersets so they can pick the right inspirations for the fight. Also, most of them are reluctant to go against toons like rad/psi..
The thing is.
The people that like to PvP and PvP often are a certain type of person. They don't like to lose, they are very competitive. Or i would say so. A natural reaction for me if i was duel someone. would be to ask what i am fighting to make sure i take the right toon. To win or at least draw.
1v1 Duels are very much Paper Scissors Rock. Simple the game isn't balanced for 1v1. The game is always balance to Team PvP.
What do you expect to happen when you ask for a fight?
Scrapper V Scrappers are really boring match's same for Tankers V Tankers. The best matchs are the squishy battles theres more at stake with less inherent protection to damage or mes protection.
People are always goona look for a way to win.
Things that have kept me from team pvp:
1.) I lack people to regularly team with in pvp. If the team doesnt have good coordination, it is endlessly frustrating and massively more unbalanced to fight a good pvp team than fighting any duel.
2.) Trying to get the people together for team pvp.
3.) lacking the right toons, team PVP is more dependant in having right toons than duels are, imo.
Thats my take, I have rarely had any fun in team pvp. In duels I answer only for myself and theres at least a chance.
I understand that Team PvP is hard to come by. Thats why i run a weekly PvP Night on test. Come along with no preconceptions and just play and enjoy. Yes people that come are experience PvP'ers but are always wanting to encourage more PvP'ers
The people that come to Mondays feel the same and are always looking for new challenges in PvP....

I've been there... Most of my experiences come from there.. Its either random chaos which isnt fun or the other team has better coordination or toons resulting in numbers like 35-2.
I'm sorry, but team pvp doesnt seem right for me. The last squished tourney was ok, as small team made it possible to have some coordination, but it was brought down by reason number two, "getting people together". Due to misinformation about when the tourney was held(he thought it was other weekend), Sero had to leave early and that was that. Then I tried with Raz, who is a good pvper, but due to lack of toon synergy and coordination our fights got the expected result of 0-2 and out. Its depressing.
I only use my blaster for duels nowadays, I'll duel anything bar Ice tankers seeing as they're prettymuch unbeatable and would be boring and lame. And with stalkers at stealth cap. I fight anything thing else em/elecbrutes spines/regen you name it, as long as I have a chance to kill something.
I do enjoy dueling (most pvpers have to otherwise you dont get much action) although not perfect its stragic and does requires lots of knowledge about different powers. Its at its most satifying when you beat things you shouldnt. I have worked hard in devolping my blaster's build (accolades & IOing him) to be as rounded as possible and to always put up a fight.
Team PvP is amazing especially monday nights although it can sometimes be unbalanced but with no pre planning it can be hard to balance teams with all the factors - player skill, build (powersets, power choices, accolades, and with IOs), understanding team pvp, synergy thats not always entirely obvious and certain players play better together.

Im pretty casual and PvP here and there. I make characters I like and theres plenty of sets or powers I dont like for various reasons that mean I dont have anything 100% PvP built. That said I consider in my builds that I like them to work the best they can as a part in both worlds.
Duels are rock, paper, scissors indeed. I tend to duel people I know and understand that its for fun and a friendly challenge. I tend to duel with my Plant/Thorns Dominator as its the one 50 I have that I have always enjoy carrying on playing. It does ok. Its pretty much more for high level PVE, LRSF etc. Theres a lot of things that can really make it hard or cripple it. Theres also some sets its really good against. Ive been quite pleased how it works overall. Ive had some good fights with friends that are great fun and challenging and its rewarding to win against sometimes strong players and characters I might not be expected to beat.
I tend to enjoy squishies a lot more and the fights with peoples more unusual or unexpected characters are usually the most fun and exciting.
I tend to fight Raz quite a bit on whatever characters we have been levelling. I think it's my Energy/Kin Corruptor vs his Sonic/Thermal next, whenever I get it together and hit 50 .
And he's is skint, as always .

Ok im new to pvp but got a few chars who i think would suit it.
So i tried arena duels.....!
everyone who i asked or who i asked to fight then in return asked me what powers sets i have...!(i never asked myself)
i didnt think much of this at first but everytime the person asking would say ok np brb with "enter name here"
then to my surprise the "enter name here" would be a char who seems to counter act the powers i had on my chosen char..! i.e if i was a /reg scrapper thay had - reg powers etc.
now to me is this a good duel? its like paper beats stone but sissor beats paper etc. what the greatness in that?
Maybe its just me but i dont see the greatness in someone pwning some one else if there made for the job?
Team pvp FTW its goto happen as this duel thing just dont work IMHO lets bring pentad back FTW and see who really is the best(TEAM)
(just because you pvp lots does not mean you are the best out there)
(the quite ones are normally the ones to look out for)
