Because all the Mastermind Powers are ranged attacks? To be fair, a bow does the same kind of damage as your Ninja's crossbow/shuriken (minus the poison if memory serves) so it does make a bit of sense.
That said, maybe you should pitch a "melee" mastermind powerset in the suggestions category. Considering the stuff you can get away with using the bodyguard mode, it's not THAT insane.
Ok that would be a good idea to pitch a melee MM but i also mean the range powers for instance if i pic a merc MM why cant i have a flame thrower or some off the council guns like the catling gun or sonic gun or something like that.
Damn you. Now I just want to make a Mastermind with a bunch of pool melee attacks and thug bodyguards. Must...resist...urge...to make another....goofy ...alt.
Its kinda because those powers are 3rd in rank.
Pets->secondairy->powers->pool (pool vs powers.. good one).
Just a simple support power, not much to do about.
And Pious, commando has flametrower
Its the longgoing story of AR-blasters, they still stuck with a supersoaker, the TA/archery that have a stupid lousy wooden bow.

Oh, you couldn't be more wrong. That would be the same as saying all corruptor primaries are the same.
(And you can ignore the blasts anyway, as they get more and more insignificant the further you level up.)

Its your blast power, how different can it be? Besides, many MM's dont even pick the blast, i picked mine at 49.
Personally i want my brute to have ae heal. And blizzard looks cool, i want that aswell! And debuffs are nice so why cant i pick some of them? Of course buffs are awesome for brutes so gimme speed bost plz.
See the problem? MM's are already awesome soloers and a really top notch AT, if they add some serious personal firepower it will just get to damn good. MM is a petclass so the main focus, and biggest difference, are the pets.
Melee MM sounds cool tho, just add energy melee as a secondary and let the fun begin!
Melee Mastermind IS fun. I failed myself and rolled a Robotics/Dark Brawler (Mostly for the Debuffs and for the "Ghost in the Machine" theme). A couple of pool melee powers (Air Superiority and Flurry) and I'm totally ready to abuse bodyguard mode.
The worst thing is I'm already lusting for Whirlwind. I'll get it around level 22 and dear God its just going to make Melee Masterminding so much more fun.

just like to say tht a good mm doesnt really need any long ranged attacks thts ur pets job plus if u get a good secondary urll need the slots for them i find.

Sure. All of my MMs have Air Sup and Sands of Mu or Undead Slaying Axe respectively and most of the time I charge into an enemy spawn first where I unleash my full debuff and melee power. Fun as hell, but when I am in a team people tend to be irritated by the masterbrute.

Hello all why cant we pic another power.
I mean if i am building a mastermind and i make one with ninja's why do i have to take the bow and not a katana.
And now for robotics , mercenaries and thugs on these three you get either guns or a rifle. to me its three MM with almost the same powers except the pets.
Dont get me wrong i like the game.But for me the MM sets are all the same.
