Repel, Whats a Melee Fighter to do?

Okay so i'm not much of a PvP'er but looking to learn, last night i got involved in a 1 on 1 in the arena against an Ill/FF controller with my Elec/Energy Blaster.
What followed was not pretty as I was consistantly pushed around any time i tried to get into blap range for burst damage, where most of the builds damage comes from by Force Bubble.
Also I couldn't even tp foe my enemy to me as even queing my power said he was out of range immediatly for blaps. Is there some way i can get round the repel effect with an insp, pool power or some other sneaky PvP trick i'm not aware of?

The only way a solo toon can combat repel is with four break frees (or preferably strength of wills, which are like 3-minute break frees) at the same time. This will neutralize the repel for the duration of the insps. I doubt in this case it would have been enough cause I have a hunch who you played against.

Some toons have repel resistance in their powersets but they are few and far between. Invul, energy aura, regen in moment of glory iirc, and thats about it. (PS. dont use moment of glory against Illu troller.. The end comes much quicker)

I think the only practical option for you would have been try to endurance drain him, as keeping up with the bubbles and attacks costs him lot of endurance. Best would be power boost+short circuit if you only get it to hit. Elec attacks have a -recovery effect in them, which is the key. Then the opponent is going to drain his own end when its not recovering. Tesla cage has longest period of -recovery, 8 seconds iirc.

Ouch, 4 Break Frees? Yeah, would imagine thats not gonna last long as a tactic with limited insps. Is it an all or nothing thing? 4 or don't bother? Or could I use a smaller number to slow the repel factor enough to keep me in range long enough to attack?

Hate to say it but the sneaky PVP trick here is to most likely bring a friend. If they've built their toon around the Repel theme, that may be your only bet.
Once you get under the effect of repel, there's not a lot you can do about it. My Mind Dom loves him some Telekinesis as once it has you it really doesn't end until I run out of endurance. That said, I have seen people totally ninja-woop me by bringing 4+ Break Frees to the party. After that happened I was a lot less brave when they ran past my hiding place in Warburg.
For what its worth I don't go into Warburg without a handful of them myself. It only takes one controller holding you to death before you realize that whole thing could have been avoided.

Wait, what am I saying? 4 Inspirations will only help you for a short time. Considering how it might take more, I'm going to fall back on my original suggestion: Bring a friend.

If you have Superspeed, pop Aim+Build Up, queue up Total Focus then just charge at him. You should be able to get the attack off before you're repelled. Then finish off with a couple of ranged attacks.

All or nothing, I'm afraid.

As Hammer said, there's only a few sets that can get repel protection. Of my 12+ toons, only 2 of them have it (INV Tank in Unyielding and PB in Light Form). You can also get protection from a Kin's "Increased Density".

The only other option is to use ranged attacks or find some way to detoggle the Troller. Since it's /FF, their main weakness is sleep attacks. Or (as Empath suggests) you could try to joust them with a queued melee attack and Super Speed... but don't expect to detoggle them through Dispersion Bubble with one hit.

Of course, just to play devil's advocate a second, a couple of those rare things that give repel protection are toggles. Toggle-dropping goes both ways as I can still repel the INV Brute/Tanker with a well placed Sleep, Stun, or just plain Dominator detoggler. So even if you build your character to stand up to Repel Doom, it's not always going to be foolproof. You know, like most things in PVP.

Exactly, this is kind of what I'm liking about PvP, every new player you meet, in the zones or arena, is a new puzzle to unlock. Mucking about with friends has got me so far but this one had me stumped and I'm not entirely sure how many effects translate to PvP. Thanks for all the help, shall be looking to try these ideas and a new one of Tp Foe with my back already to a wall to see if that works too...

Trapping yourself in a corner versus a force fielder is a very dangerous tactic...i suggest using Empath's hit & run tactic.

Nah, this isnt working practically at all anymore. Im not sure it ever did. Especially if youre at the office arena map pinned to a wall like a squished mosquito, running somewhere with superspeed isnt working that great.

Tp doesnt seem to work with repel anymore inside arena. Im not sure if its a lag issue or what you basically rubberband back to where you were. Different thing on zones but in arena, nah.

Might depend how you have SS slotted, but it was working just fine for me this last weekend.

Mine is slotted 2 speed.. Even if I have gotten as close as possible, my melee attacks havent triggered. Imagine the frustration..

You can kite through Force Bubble.

Just needs practice.

You need some momentum ie you cant do it while stuck in a corner.

theres also the added aspect of lag meaning that though you appear to be standing next to the person your attacks wont fire as thats not what the server sees, how many times have we all been right on top of people without repel and melee hasnt fired.

That only works vs a standing bubbler, and who doesnt have aid self.
I wouldn't try and get a quick kill vs a bubbler on a elec/nrg blaster, my first option would be try and drain him (force+dispersion are two really heavy toggles I can tell you), so instead of trying kiting with TF I would try and kite with powerboosted short circuit, while trying to avoid being cornered.

I would nuke him on an elec/energy

Power Boosted TB is nasty end drain. I think it has -recovery too?
