What would you rather have....?
Defence and resistance are nice, but then you'd want the brute to have a very AoE primary to keep the mobs agrod to her, as EN doesn't have an aura.
Now /fire has end recovery, I've had no end issues on mine, and guess what, am duo'd with a /thermal. It works really well, we're duoing AVs more and more recently and taking on agro cap herds regularly.
Am guessing /elec would work as well, but you'd have to heal more than my duoing partner does.

Elec is right now, with the possible exception of Dark, the best armour set for brutes. Defense types such as Energy aura, are a touch difficult to play, she will find much more rewarding and easy to adapt the Elec armour set, and from the moment she takes Conserver Power and then the fabled Power Sink (which I'm afraid is not early... you will probably have to take Stamina anyway, at least from 20 to 45) she will forget about end issues.
Dark Melee can help too with its own end drain power, if you don't settle for Electric Armour or Energy Aura. And might help with Dark, which is not as End intensive as it looks if you go Dark/Dark (with other melee set it is, though) and has a better ressist spread than elec (but not by far... you will only lament it when you go against arachnoids and the like).
EA is good, but you have to walk a fine line between life and death - during those periods where you're running with "minus" SOs, you really notice it. That said, when it's on form you'll be able to take on as much as any other Brute.
Stamina-less is quite doable with EA thanks to Energy Drain and Conserve Power, but really it's only practical to go Stamina-less from the start if you take Dark Melee and get Dark Consumption.
The other thing going for the DM/EA combo is that the Dark Melee accuracy debuffs give you a nice defence boost and Touch of Fear can really make you hard to hit.

Whenever I look for combinations, be it teaming or choosing powers or what invention bonuses to go for, I always look for what stacks. The thermal shields combined with electric armour give you SERIOUS damage resistance (around 70% smash/lethal good neg eng and cold and youll cap the res on fire and energy). Whenever I have a thermal with my ENG/ELEC brute, I know I can run into any mob and take alpha and not even worry about my health (which in the rare circumstance that it does go down can be topped up easily by heals) Not only that, you can get mez protection to fill certain gaps in electric armour's set.
The only thing you need to worry about is endurance which wont be a problem come lev 28/35. But trust me an ELEC armour brute with a thermal gives you alpha absorbing damage resistance, you'll be able to run on relentless pretty much all the time and you'll have every type of damage covered (bar toxic of course!)
Hope this helps.
I'd throw my vote in for a Fire/Energy Brute. And as for the /Thermal, Rad/ or Sonic/ will work well.

My g/f and I are thinking of starting a Brute/Corr duo, I have opted to play a /Thermal Corr and my g/f is to play the Brute...the problem is, she doesn't like suffering End issues (who does ) so i've suggested either /Elec or /Energy for Power Sink and Energy Drain. As stated, i'll being playing a /Thermal so she doesn't have to worry about picking up the Medi Pool and she'll probably only play in the Duo as shes has other toons she plays.
Thats the background story done, now for the question:
You as a Brute comunity, what would you rather have.../Thermal + /Elec that has really high Resistance through toggles and Fire Sheilds, or..../Thermal + /Nrg that has decent Defence+Resistance?
Also, any info on the /Elec sets would be nice, as i've played that set...but i've had a high lvl /Nrg, but been a while since i played one.
