best PVE tank? Stone armour bar none but will ahve minimal damage due to the slowdown in granite.

Stone with rock, brimstone and minerals and goes rooted does quite good solo. Granite penalties can overcome with SS going rage.
Biggest thing, what you see as fun? Each tank set has a fun-factor, but depends what you like. Fire tanker goes down in HP often, but can heal itself quite often, downside it has quite alot 'must have' powers. Inv is the easiest going, even with little powers it becomes already a quite decent power (it has 3 passive resist powers, without you can still do 'ok'). PvE solo and PvE team are quite different.

I have to agree: Which PvE tank is "the best" depends on what you want or what you consider fun. Different tanks do things in different ways. I am not too impressed by stone/* (Safe and slow... and boring as hell.), but I have seen excellent tanking from a fire/fire tanker (who brought decent AoE damage to the table) and I have probably never felt safer from aggro than with an ice/ice tanker in the team (who brought a good measure of soft control).
Both looked like a lot of fun (which - according to the player in question - they were) and if my altitis would ever urge me to play a tanker I would certainly play one of those... or a mixture like fire/ice.

Depends what you mean by 'best'.
IMO Fire is the most fun, Stone is the toughest but very slow.
Ice is probably the best team tank now.
