Taunt and Provoke, how do you do without them??
Well, I can easily hold an aggro cap's worth of mobs on me with very little effort as long as they're fairly close to me. If mobs start to get scattered then it can be a bit more challenging, but by and large it's managable.
That said, as an Ice tank I've got both Icicles & Chilling Embrace running continuously, which makes it nigh-impossible for anything to pull mobs off me without a taunt of their own.
Remember that 50% of aggro management is controlling the mobs, the other 50% is controlling your team. If you've got people scattering mobs left, right and centre, then no amount of taunting will allow you to keep all of them under your control.

Don't use GA, don't generally tank higher than +3s so don't need both.

What Fault said, only in granite the team could actually need you to have so much. Serious plus levels with high taunt resist could near enough ignore you almost all of the time in favour of someone else and so non stop is a case of no choice.
Granite id say is an only in emergency type thing as well normally. Especially at 50 as you wont be running into +5s.

Tank without granite? Excuse the incredible ignorance but how do you do that? Do you take all the other armours such as brimstone and crystal?
@Boerewors
Every armour plus Tough in my case as well as using Fault and Tremor for damage mitigation.
My attitude goes back to the days of teaming with my good friend Dawnrazor on his blaster and hunting bosses in PI. I soon learnt that +5 mobs looked at me and then turned and mashed him even with taunt. After that I always took an SK to reduce the level difference when on teams and would rarely agree to tank higher than +4s even with GA.
Well I consistently tank +4-6 mobs now with ease in GA, using taunt and provoke. I have taunt 3 rech and 3 taunt slotted and provoke 2 acc/2rech/2 taunt. Even before I had provoke I could tank pretty well at those lvls with just taunt. Provoke makes such a difference to round it off now.
I also have TP slotted 3 end red, I bounce around the room picking up aggro where it slips. It is amazing what you can do with TP if you put your mind to it.
@Boerewors
Sounds like you are making much more of an effort than a lot of tanks to hold aggro and if it works, fair play to you.
Guess I'm just a little used to seeing stone tanks taking on +6 mobs and after the 12th team death on a mish say how they can't help but feel "partly responsible". Yet they won't suggest taking an SK that's freely available and will be telling you how they got eight bars since the mish began in the next breath.
Would never go without taunt for a stoner, since theiy're so gimped that they need it
Also don't usually fight astuff higher than +3's so reduced power effectiviness isn't that much of a problem, CE works just fine for all my aggro grabbing needs on my ice tank (Although it's not quite as good now that it doesn't have the near-instant tickrate anymore, but it still holds all the aggro needed.)
Fighting +5s or higher was incredibly boring to me, but even then mud pots + fire sword circle + combustion and the occasional fire blast or fire ball for those not in melee range always worked fine for me.
I'd much rather take a SK and contribute at both aggro control and offense, thus helping the team going through missions faster and getting more xp ; but that's just me, I have crazy ideas like taking secondary powers on a defender or using soft controls on a dominator.
My stoner is now 43 and still going strong. Thanks to Whitey ol pal ;-), I now have provoke and taunt 6 slotted and finally my aggro management and catching mobs intent on hurting the team is complete.
I am always tanking +4-7 mobs in teams with no SK. My question is this: how the heck do other people hold aggro at this lvl in an 8 man team without using both non stop?
