Alright folks, I may just not be aware of it, or it may not exist...
But wouldn't it be great with a global channel for Giant Monster warnings? They have had this on the US servers for a while back now and it's worked great.

I've seen three, I repeat THREE Luscas at once in Independence Port now. And every one of them is a wasted badge because no one is interested in fighting the giant monsters of Paragon.

I've seen them in IP, Croatoa, Dark Astoria, Perez Park and a few select others. What should be known is that there ARE badge awards for defeating these giants!

So I propose we set up a global channel called Defiant Watch or something along those lines for Giant Monster patrols!

I hope there's some interest because I remembered having a blast back on the US servers when the community gathered around a threat to Paragon and dealt with it swiftly as one large group.

If anyone has any interest in this I think it's worth a shot, I just think it's such a waste that fine encounters that anyone can join in on should go to waste.

Giant Monsters are indeed scaled to fit every level in the game from 1 to 50, although level 1s may only approach at their own risk.

But right... this is something anyone can participate in and it's alot of fun to see so many heroes work together, I've met quite a few nice folks in their higher end levels who seem to be itching for work, this may be something for them to fill the occasional moment of tedium with adventure.

But to finish, I hope this can happen.

When Global first hit, there was a Defiant Monsters channel but it was disbanded and merged with DefiantBadgers. You get the odd GM sighting on that.

It seems rather ineffective as nothing is really done about the monsters, though.

I'll leave the thread to mature a bit however.
If enough people express interest in setting up a server-wide network to fight Giant Monsters, that could really help people trying to get badges.

Like Kryten said, when i set up the badgers i set up a monsters channel too, it just didn't work as people weren't sure which channel to use as GMs do award badges for the most part.

I'm going to go with a shaky analogy:

if you want to advertise something effectively then you'd take out an advert in an existing well established newspaper? or start a new newspaper and put your ads in that?

I'd suggest that if people want to hunt GMs then they join the some of the following existing and well established channels:

DefiantBadgers (natch)
Defiant Events
Global
Forumites

when they spot a GM put a shout out across a selection of these four, you'll reach most of the population of the server.

I've never seen a better response than from broadcasts on [DefiantBadgers] or [Defiant Events]. Life before joining these channels was pure misery. I remember one time I spotted Kraken in Perez... it was the first GM I'd ever seen and as I had no friends online, I had no real way to generate interest from other heroes. I found myself travelling to adjacent zones and sending broadcasts on the global channels for each but had zero luck. Then came along the badgers or events channel and everything changes. Somebody spots a GM? Somebody gets a special badge mish? Somebody is doing a TF? Somebody is farming badges? You can bet your cape it will be advertised there and there are ALWAYS takers.

Perhaps the interest is a little less in GMs these days because most people on the channels may already have the badges, but that's still a good enough reason to reinforce it with newer heroes, right?

Fair enough... Let's see if we can reduce the GM population in IP by the end of today then. ;P

Edit: That is to say I'll join the badgers channel and give it a go, who knows... It may just be that no one in the channel that's seen all the Luscas lurking in IP had any interest in cleaning up, hehe.

Pity, Kraken is still a rare occurrence until I8 hits and they up his spawn rate.

Anyway the reason people arent interested in GMs is that they offer too little for the risk of debt involved. Namely, only badges. Xp rewards are a joke. Plus of course you basically need a -regen character so that the GM becomes actually killable.

Lack of decent rewards for GMs was discussed ages ago. They used to be ok but then US people apparently 'farmed them' (no idea how because the spawn rate isnt exactly phenomenal) so the rewards were nerfed. I mentioned this just in case it wasnt common knowledge..

Yeah it's a real shame that people are scared to death about debt. If I recall, debt gives badges in itself. :P

Great badger opportunity, rack up debt and get some monster badges too!

Yep, the GMs are pointless. In the time it takes to kill em the 16+ people it took could have completely a fair few missions foiling lots of villainous threats instead of ganking a boring and static octopus that doesn't actually do any damage to IP, she just sits there waving her tenctacles at passers by.

And the Devs obviously agree since you'll gain far more fighting experience and your influence will increase more by doing missions foiling actually villains instead of beating on endangered species in IP Bay.

Maybe they should change it into a mission where you have to break Lusca out of Paragon City Seaworld and release her back into the wild

Free Luscy.

Good idea.. giant monsters should sit on tram stations and force people to deal with them or die. :P

Its not even the XP per hour. Its the fact that Lusca is really, really boring to fight and theres almost nothing to show for it. Just saying why she's left sit in the middle of IP unharressed.

It used to be that it'd a mini-event when she spawned, teams forming to take her out. Maybe her XP was too high then but nowadays no-one cares and the devs work goes mostly ignored. I'd love that mini-event feeling back.

when i logged on the test server lusca had spawned way up the map, about mid way up - on line with the kingsrow entrance (or there abouts).

so maybe they have done something to make her more of an apparent threat.

It's not the threat so much as the lack of reward, all GMs are reasonably rare so they should give the mad XP. Nerfing them was pointless and now that they're upping the spawn rates in I8 it'll be even tougher to get a pick up group and take them down, they'll be so common that now one will care. I'm glad that i already have all the GM badges because getting them from I8 on is going to be a major pain.

Oh well.. I guess that's it for the GM badges then unless I join a semi suicidal mid to large sized SG, hehe.
Thanks for all the responses guys... Guess I'll just try to get the normal achievement badges instead.

And I do agree that nerfing them was completely pointless, anda waste of content. When I posted I'd been away from the US servers for quite a while and not aware they had been nerfed in the first place..

I mean... who cares if GMs gave mad XP? They're *giant monsters*, they're supposed to. Bah...

Well guys - I'll just join you all on the badgers channel and maybe someday we'll see some improvement, till then I'll just hope I can find a group of mad level 50s when I get to 50 myself and we can throw ourselves at them as much as we want.

In addition Lusca has always been one of the more common monsters, even when people were still killing GMs for rewards there were often multiple Luscas around.

My 50 loves debt now as means I can find a reason for earning xp. My regen normally had integration on all the time, so getting restrained badges etc... was much harder, having fun now trying without it...!

Also think that Lusca should only spawn at one site, that could be randomised...not 3 at a time. Still need the badge incidentally... also have never seen Kraken in Perez...

GM's are definately a lot of effort for little reward! but will have to take them all down, sooner rather than later, as want the shiny badges for me cossie..!

I dont think its a bug per se, its more about how GM spawning works. Lusca has 3 spawn points and there can only be one active monster per spawn point. Thus you get 3 luscas when nobodys killing them in time. Same can happen with other GMs too, but most have really long spawn interval.

so you're saying the intention is to have only 1 GM and yet sometimes there are 3, so the code is operating counter to the intention. sure sounds like a bug to me .

Bug is something unintentional I think... Its working as its programmed afaik.

All the GM's have several spawn points but Luscas the only one that comes up more than once so its probably a bug. Either way its been fixed in I8 so that there will only be one at a time.

No, there are practically always 3 paladins in KR.. and I know other GMs can spawn multiples as well.
