Just make sure you have enough end for it.
and slot it with slow enhancements!
it is as everything else a matter of taste, i love quills, absolutely adore quills. But it can get you in some real trouble since you aggro alot 
(wich is why i love it!)

no secondary effect fom Death Shroud though (afaik) wich does give quills the upper hand in that sence, both damage and slow

Quills is really nice. I have got both QR and Stamina though and slotted Quills with End-Redux as a priority.
Not big numbers by any means but lots and lots of small ones and it criticals as well which is a nice bonus.

Spines / Dark Scrapper Here. Quills AND death shroud...
Basically, it boils down to AoE. Quills gives very good damage per second without hypnotising you about big numbers. It IS an endurance hog tho (like most AoE).
Solo / Duo, AoE aren't normally worth it.
3-5 man teams they are worth it but don't shine.
6-8 man teams with huge spawns... mmmmmmm.....
(All IMHO of course).
I can say that my Spines/Dark scrapper will outdamage any other scrapper in an 8 man team. NOT because of large red numbers floating around, but because I am hitting lots and lots of minions all the time for more modest damage.

i've heard conflicting opinions on quills for and against taking it has anyone got a figures they can throw my way to help me decide whether to take them or not.
