Hi Guys

Been on CoH for 19 months and only ever rolled 1 scrapper in that time and only to 14 (Katana something..).

For some reason i now feel in a Scrappy mood and any advice appreciated. I think after reading posts and playing with countless Scrappers my choice would be MA with either Regen or SR , not sure which might combine best?

Or Spines and Regen ?

Mostly Soloing these days though enjoy a good team up and no PvP'ing at all for me.

Any advice greatly appreciated on any powers in these sets to avoid more than the ones i might take.?

Cheers.

It really depends on how do you want to feel: like the Matrix guys? Dodging bullets and stuff; or like Wolverine: kicking arrse without downtime with your uber regen rate? Both SR and Regen are uber. The main difference is that Regen offers you a fast early lvling and doesn't force you to pick stamina at 20 (or you might not pick stamina at all).

Must admit that I picked claws/regen solely because of wolverine. Having read threads, I can now see that I have one of the weaker builds, but I have made the most of it... and have fully enjoyed him to the last..... lvl 47 now and still going strong.... my advice is read about all the pros and cons of each set then decide....got a kat/DA also, but much harder to play at lower levels than Nine was. Will probably see the benfits of this build after lvl 20...

If it's your first scrapper, roll a /regen.
They're the simplest to play and are effective throughout the game in PVE.

+ Claws - Melee/Ranged, Moderate Damage with some AOEs but Fast Low-cost Attacks
+ Spines - Melee/Ranged, High Damage with some AOEs but fairly high endurance cost.
+ Dark Melee - Melee, Moderate Damage with some controls, damage is generally unresisted.
+ Martial Arts - Melee, High Single-Target Smashing Damage with some disorient control.
+ Katana - Melee, High Single-Target Lethal Damage with faster, lower cost attacks.
+ Broadsword - Melee, Extreme Single-Target Damage with slower, higher-cost attacks.

Katana and Broadsword also get Divine Avalanche/Parry which when properly slotted can effectively put you at the 45% Defense cap... I find DA a very handy emergency damage mitigation tool on my kat/regen.

Any Primary can be effective, but probably the best synergy with /regen is Broadsword or Spines, since they tend to be the higher endurance cost primaries and /regen gets Quick Recovery.

I've plumped for MA/Regen after 10 lvls of MA/SR which i didn't get the hang of.

Got Regen to 8 in the last couple of nights and it's great fun with the secondery a lot easier to get to grips with , for me anyway

Thanks for advice peeps.

hmmm if your into pvping then i'd pick MA/SR
1.because you have + to perseption so you can see stalkers
2.you can dodge nearly any attack but when you get hit your defence is good so it doesn't do that much damage and allows you to dodge the rest
Regen
1.you can get hit and regen your health back you also regen your end so your built to stand in a fight for a long time
2.if you slot it right you can heal recharge another healing power heal then when you get below half health and heal then the other one is ready so in a one on one you are very strong

Super reflexes can be daunting in PVE play the first half of the game especially if you havent played scrappers before. Ultimately it will be good but requires more careful play than others. I recommend any other secondary for a starting scrapper. The primary doesnt matter that much, pick one that you like.

i disagree actually, SR requires less careful play than the other sets purely because your secondary doesnt actually require any interaction.

regen - heals
dark - heal
invul - heal
sr - toggles and passives

you put your toggles on and you're good to go and start hitting things, all the others require further work to get them to do their thing. sr you are either not hit and fine or hit and dead, theres little middle ground and little recovery time.

of the good SR scrappers i've seen, they've been more gung ho than the regen and survived better because of that absolute lack of need to take their mind off their primary.

Having started retail with a DM/regen i've gone thru all the scrapper secondaries (not hard) and now currently have a scrapper of all types other than katana and i do think that while regen is good its actually SR that is the most 'scrappery' feeling.

Most people don't want to end up dead and the def shields do little apart from draining end until they are properly slotted with SOs and need to have them all. Thats the part of the game I was referring to, before you get all that. Plus SR gets no selfheal so the situation can become terminal more easily.

Most of the time regens go around on the power of fast healing, integration and quick recovery which are just as auto.

PS. The only ever character I wanted to play but couldnt and deleted it was a SR scrapper. This happened before the def scale change though, so forgive me if Im being overly cautious and take my words with a grain of salt.

Before Def scaleability by and large the super reflex scrapper was the most careful in the game, they had to be. So I personally see as where Hammerfall is coming from.

If I am playing any AT id rather have an old school super reflex in the team when it comes to a scrapper due to their careful playing which allows more time for the other team members to adapt.

invulns are better if numbers are herded which helps other sets (def gets better)

dark armours are better if numbers are herded which helps other sets (heal is better, auras affect more)

regens are self reliant and only have to think of themselves and so may not care about anyone else or think about the "ripple effect" of their actions.

super reflexes + aid self are becoming more self reliant and are probably going the way of the regen in gung ho ness now.

As a regen, I see my scrapper as the bodyguard of the team. I'll take on anything (esp as being 50 means debt is pointless) to pull the aggro off the squishies in the team.

I see it as my job to kill any threats to my team-mates.
