Right i'm thinking that after I get my Tanker to 50 i'll make a defender or probably will, I just want some advice i'm considering a Dark/Dark defender I played to level 3 with one today and it seemed good although that isn't realy a good level to go by , or either a Kinetic/Dark or /Psi, could someone give me advice on them.

Thanks in advance for any replys.

Whatever you do, go /psiiiiiiiii....

Dark/ is a very strong, and it's not nearly as common as kin, which can make you more wanted (Dark is not available as a controller secondary, thus it's rarity). It offers strong defensive debuffs and controls, as well as decent -res (which you can stack), very powerful AoE heal centered on user, and a pet that also heals, controls and debuffs.

Kin, on the other hand, offers fast recharge speeds, high damage output, ally buffs, but nothing to enhance survivability, apart for damage debuffs.

As for secondary, you can't go wrong with Psi, it's pink, it looks and sounds funky and has lots of good attacks including the best snipe in game.

have to go play my storm/psi for a bit now. Curse you!

[/ QUOTE ] the flipside being, some player don't appreciate it or understand what you're doing (Kin used to be far worse for this but it and Rad got a bit of increased awareness thanks to -Regen). Dark does have the advantage of a heal centred on you, so if you play in a lot of PuGs those green numbers might help (trying to get a damaged blaster to run TOWARDS that boss is difficult sometimes.

Only just! Soo close between psi lance and moonbeam, same everything except psi lance gets the +acc for psi stuff, while dark's -acc debuff is possibly a tad more useful - I prefer the moonbeam anim too (although a great chunk'o'pink flying at the target is amusings).

To back up what MaX says, Dark/ is unique to defenders (the only defender-only primary), is extraordinarily powerful (and gets a freakin' PET), and a damn sight rarer than kin/.

And /Psi is also unique to defenders, Dark is shared by corruptors but psi is ours and ours alone (and they can NEVER haves our precious). The -recharge is a bugger in PvP (if you're interested in that sort of thing) but more importantly the /psi set offers good single target control, featuring an immobilise, knockback, sleep, disorient, and knockup powers - all of which come with powerful and rarely resisted damage, an inherent accuracy bonus (20%-ish iirc) and a nifty but ne'er noticed -recharge component for their powers. It's got a cone, and AoE, and a nuke to die for...

It's impossible to oversell /psi, it's just an all-round good egg (except for Mental Blast, which is the price we pay to have the rest of the set).

[/ QUOTE ]But think of all the stuff you could do with a psi blast char that had high damage modifier and didn't need to take mental blast...

That's a suitably scary idea. -recharge, single target control, barely resisted damage... erk. Guess that's why it's still ours, eh!

I know that, but whenever an AV comes up it is always "send in the Rad/Kin". You just illustrated my point - Dark isn't as well known and as a result some teams will take something else in preference (their loss)

[/ QUOTE ]Just re-read and noticed this. NoFuture states that all psi powers apart for nuke and snipe have standard accuracy modifier...

That sounds right, so much for one of my arguments. Still kicks it, though!

I got more worried by the days MaX.

I've tremendously enjoyed my dark/dark, who's now at 37. One great synergy with dark/dark is the two AoE attacks in /dark (TT and NF), which when fully slotted, and with a Tar Patch or two from dark/ underneath, can put out some pretty respectable damage and melt away big groups.

Another great (but unsung) synergy of dark/dark is in disorientation - with HT and DP you have 2 disorients (Mag 2 + Mag 1) which, when stacked, can disorient an entire bunch of mobs, including bosses.

Fluffy is also a great boon - a very active pet, constantly pumping out heals, holds and TT, and with a good debuffing aura wherever he goes.

Dark/dark is really the most jack-of-all-trades power combination of all, IMHO. You can debuff, control, heal, put out damage, even tank to a small extent (by materialising Fluffy in the midst of some mobs). The one thing you can't do is buff, but my other Defender is Kin/Elec, so I can do the buffbot thing when I feel like it

Plus the animations and sounds are great - by the time you're in your mid 30s, you feel pretty mighty.

Yeah dark is good but Kinetics are far better looking

The Good:
Krazy Mary L50 Kinetic defender
Uniqua L31 PeaceBringer
Black Annis L24 Warshade
Krystal L18 Ice Blaster
The Bad:
Frenzi L34 SS/Inv Brute

I've tried a few dark/*s but just can't seem to get them past their teens despite them being so powerful. There is just something ugly about the black, pixellated mess that it makes all over the floor that puts me off Shadowfall in particular, looks dire.

It also doesn't mesh with my usually brightly coloured spandex or patent leather, shiny outfits. I refuse to add to the server's overpopulation of demonic horned, black clad heroes.

But now I'm seriously interested in a hot pink /psi affair. Hmm what primary to choose for next alt

Try a bright pink & black blended patent leather. Ultimate in garish for this seasons discerning hero

Can't go wrong with Dark/Psi, it's great fun - especially when you pick up TK Blast, and start playing the "Knock-the-loose-mob-onto-the-Tar-Patch" game.

it doesn't look the greatest, but shadow fall is a great power and the only one that grants psi resistance which is very useful in late game.

I really enjoyed playing a dark/dark def to 50. as someone already said its a bit of a jack of trades. teams well and can solo fairly well, especially post-32 when you get fluffy.
