Anyone taken Soul Drain?

Just hit 41 with my Dark/Dark Corr (with Ghost Widow as a patron), and need to choose between Soul Drain or the Armour as next power. Has anyone taken Soul Drain, and if so do you recommend it? It looks kind of useful, but then again so does dying less quickly

That depends. If your secondary has no self damage buffs, and you don't find yourself dying a lot, soul drain would be my pick, especially if you focus on AoE damage.

Soul drain finally makes my nuke worth having, it's quite nice. best saved for nice large groups/herds. It's main drawback is a very small melee radius and as i seem to not be hitting that much with it all the time it may need a second acc. My planner does say it has an inherant +20% acc, but i'm not sure whether to beleive it, it seems a bit iffy.

I want him at the shrinking of the tide;

And last year's leaves are smoke in every lane;
But last year's bitter loving must remain

I doubt the acc bonus, but will state the case for soul drain as an awesome power, that defies belief if you hit 8 mobs. Up to damage cap you go, and their defence just got floored. You WILL hit and you WILL hit hard. With 3 recred, hasten, and a speed boost, it's perma. Without the buff, it's got about 10-20 seconds of downtime, I'm not entirely sure. Even on it's own with 3 recred, you can count on "oh damn" soul drain+nuke+leg it= survival.

That sounds like perma damage cap for my kinetic corruptor.

If it has
eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.

Nope. I'm also dark/dark. I tried it on Training Room and realised it was player-based aoe. Since I do my best to stay out of melee range, it would be situational at best.

I'm defo getting sould rain on my AR/Kin.

Combined with fast nuke and fulcrum shift it's a great mob sweeping power.

With nuke it's great if you can handle running into a mob and hitting it.

Which was the problem. After a level or so of 'running into a mob and dying before I could fire Soul Drain + Blackstar' I've repecced out of Soul Drain and into Dark Embrace. Back to the drawing board

soul drain is a great power that with a big mob will make your damage huge. That being said, as a corruptor ho often do u want to be surounded by a huge mob? lol
as a Dark Melee power for brutes its great, i cant see it being overly useful for a corruptor, take the armour

Especially as a /Dark, I can't really see the problem with standing near some mobs... if they have Darkest Night on them, and are feared, they shouldn't be hurting you much.

On teams, I tend to stand pretty near everything on my squishies anyway, and it's only a problem if we're fighting stuff that fires off a load of AoEs, and I get hit by those. Most enemies, though, I find are either too busy attacking other people, or are mezzed or debuffed, and it's not really a problem to jump in long enough to fire off a PBAoE power. I regularly use Power Sink and Irradiate on my Corruptors, and yeah I get some aggro afterwards, but I don't think I've ever managed to kill myself that way.

Well, the mobs are big when you're teaming, so wait the tank of the group run in first and get the agro. Just then run in and hit soul drain, my friend has it and he says it works for him.
Also you should have acrobatics if you plan to hop into a mob.

Also my friend can herd a little while soloing so he can get soul drain off big mob.

My plan is going to be this:

1. Use */Dark debuffs to herd/neuter a nice group of foes
2. Soul Drain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111111
3. General Radiation-based AoE carnage >

Mua ha ha ha!!!

from what i've learned from using my DM/SR scrapper is soul drain is a cool alpha debuffs foe acc combined with SR +Def almost unhittable and makes for a cool effect while punching your foes into stumps
