Firstly, Hello.
After 100+ Levels of CoV I have returned back to CoH to play a tank that I rolled last April; goes by the name of Hawaiin Punch (I know I spelt it incorrectly)he is Stone/Super Strength and I am building him to be purely a team player.

Current Lvl 18, build as follows:

Stone Armour:

Rock Armour - 1 End Red, 3 Def

Stone Skin - 3 Dmg Res

Earth's Embrace - 1 Rchg

Mud Pots - 1 End Red, 1 Acc, 1 Dmg, 1 Slow, 2 Taunt

Rooted - 2 End Red, 3 Heal

Brimstone Armour - 1 End Red, 2 Dmg Res

Crystal Armour - 1 Dmg Res

Super Strength:

Jab - 1 Acc

Punch - 1 Acc

Others:

Brawl - 1 Acc

Recall Friend - 1 Int Red

Teleport - 1 End Red

Any suggestions much appreciated, FYI I'm set to take Taunt at 20 then fitness pool after that...

I would take taunt asap if you wont to be a team-tanker, once you got rooted/GA running (later at 32) your running speed comes to a nearly complete stop.

I lived without any travel power upto lvl35 (with punch/jab/KO blow/boxing as attacks), using (pre-ED) 6slotted swift to move around. Pre-32 you can consider taking the fighting pool for extra s/l resistance, try to get knockout blow asap (cute animation, lovely damage and dissorient).

Dont waste your 24 respec pre-32 yet.

Do you still have the free respec?
If so, I'd go for something like this and get Stamina at 22. I think neglecting your attacks is a mistake. Brimstone is very marginal, crystal less so but you can probably avoid it, especially if you take Handclap as a stun, which does have drawbacks.

I still would take swift instead of hurlde, specialy when you got into rooted. Haymaker afaik does knockback on green/blue and some white minions, wich i felt pretty anoying.

But based on that list, he only got his rockarmor to go around.. painful

Yup Hurdle is an error, should be Swift. I used Fault when I was leveling to mitigate damage, which is why I suggested Handclap which does pretty much the same thing but has big knockback which may be a problem.

Haymaker is a solid attack. You really shouldn't be fighting green/blue as a tank

With Brimstone, the big fire damage isn't going to come until post 32, Crystal might be a bit more useful around this level - against Freaks and Council maybe. I'm not saying don't take it - I'm saying this is what I'd take up to level 20. Stone has great Regen in Rooted, EE and Health, it's this that's probably more important than the armours at this level.

Well thanks for the comments so far.

Also glad to see that there are varying combinations that can work and be effective.

I should explain that HP tends to team with his SG mates, and as such there are always damage dealers in the team - subsequently I am leaving the attacks until later and will very likely be slotting them for Accuracy and Taunt only. I appreciate that at present soloing with this guy would be like watching paint dry

One question, is Earth's Embrace better slotted for heals and rchg or for Toxic resist?

I still think not slotting your main attacks as a tank is a mistake. Knockout Blow is an awesome attack, combined with Rage it makes you a very very potent attacker and you get it at level 20. Don't forget you'll be the one standing toe-to-toe and pummeling that Elite Boss/AV, do you really want to neglect such a massive attack?

3/3 recharge/heal. The heals will increase the boost to your HP, so that with SOs your health increases by about half again (I think).

I will definitely be getting Knockout Blow and haven't discounted that in the later game I expect to be dishing out as well as taking damage - at the moment my considerations have been around armouring myself the best I can so I can take the heat off my teammates - I'm sure since ED I will have anough slots to chuck around in my 30's so I can start doing some significant damage.

It most likely won't take too long to get there, either

Lots of good stuff already covered here, but I'll just chuck in a couple of comments.

I'd look at the slotting of Mud Pots again. It's a gem of a power and can admittedly be usefully slotted in several ways. Despite taking Acc enhancements, the Slow, Immob and Taunt componenets of it are still auto-hit. Since the damage is pretty minor, I wouldn't bother with the Acc and swap in and End reducer instead. Once you've got Stamina one EndRed will be enough, but until then as many as you can spare will help.

As mentioned above, slotting EE for Heal is a good idea. Those extra HP boost your already impressive Regen rate - it's well worth slotting up Health for the same reason.

Personally I'd probably ditch both Brimstone and Crystal Armour in a post-32 respec and use those slots to pick up extra attacks - I've always found GA much more useful on big teams.

Stone Tanks really don't need the fighting pool (especially as you'll no doubt have plenty of buffs on you most of the time) but I'm afraid you will wind up needing Hasten. I picked up the Presence pool for extra Taunting, but that's not essential either. If I had a spare respec now I'd be tempted by the Medicine Pool - not so much for Aid Self but for the ability to act as a last ditch Defender as you're very likely to be the last one to go down if things turn ugly. Being able to cast a whopping Tank-size Heal, un-Mez a genuine Defender or cast an emergency Rez (since you'll also have TP and Recall friend) are all quite appealing to me.

Finally, make a nice comfortable bind for Teleport and practice sweeping the camera around with your middle mouse button to find the spot you want to land in. Being able to TP up onto ledges and walkways is a vital skill for any Stone Tank.

See you in game, most likely

Thanks for the advice Tundra, I had been hoping to catch you on Team Speak to go through the build but much appreciate your comments mate. As for these other dodgy types (that means you SB! ) it would be excellent to get some teaming in - chuck me a tell any time I'm on - I'm sure you guys have got my global but just in case it's @Green Jet suprisingly enough. Catch you all in Paragon I hope!

Ps Jet thinks Stalkers are like wasps. They are annoying but if you ignore them long enough they will go away and pester something they have a chance of killing...

No problem - am in France again at the moment, so on nightshifts rather than TS.

That'll explain it then - hope it's not too arduous out there and I'll see you soon - we can have a chat and hopefully a bit of a team session.

I think I've got you on my friends already dude, just never seem to see ya round, I'll check it out later. If you dont see me on yours, throw a gfriend @Tech Tower and I'll grab it when I'm on next!

Totally agree with ya... but a swarm of stalkers can be as painful as a swarm of wasps, lol, had 3 of them drop an AS on me last night, to take Tech Tower down . 2 did it at one time, just because the first one was lucky enough to knock off my temp invuln I'm guessing!

Later duder.

Muahaha guess who'll be asking for team buddy! you have built ya toon differently to mine but your slots aren't too bad really which is main thing. Expect critique! no not really, if your as good as you are with your other toons my pb will be in safe hands. I'd get haymaker (seeing you dont have it yet) before knockout blow though but both pre 30 for sure.

my way of thinking on the build is just like filths but taunt at lvl 10, recall friend at lvl 14, and tp self at 16, oh and stamina before knockout blow. In my invulns case she'll never have a res against psi or end drain but she still has to get the aggro so with brimstone and crystal (lesser seen damage types) i can leave them till 20's for better aggro getting ability.

Glad I didn't disgrace myself entriely with the build so far - I know you are a perfectionist Shan. As ever, you are welcome to join any team I am in mate. Had the single pleasure of teaming with ol' Skull Bender last night - in the guise of his scrapper Satisfaction and I must say it was very odd watching him belt away whilst I feebly tried to manage the aggro. Will I be able to withstand your scrutiny Shannon?
