Invulnerability/Energy Melee - Old, but still 'ard
in answer to question about Shields:
because the permanent resists from resist physical damage stack with the toggles and you want to get that as high as fast as you can.
about dull pain:
Unstoppable doesnt play into it. dull pain is both your boost maximum hp as well as your self heal. Its there so early because you only get good defenses once you get yourself decenty slotted and with single origins. Its early on that you need it, once youre up in the high levels you rarely activate it..

Shields:
How come people seem to start up with resist Physical damaged or take it early on? Doesn't temp inv give much better protection? And wouldn't one of the other shields give you better protections against damage in general since they will boost you defence against none physical damage which you lack?
[/ QUOTE ]
Temp invuln is more beneficial at the start. People either take RPD as well to get their smash and lethal up to as best possible early in the game as its most likely what they will be facing, or decide they want over a certain amount of percentage res of each type.

Dull Pain:
Okay, I get that it's great to boost you HP esp. with unstoppable but do you really need to take it so early, like i did in my build? Is't it just another slef heals in the lower level and you'd be just as good with some greens? Sure, i give you tox res against Vaz but if you don't fight Vaz you don't need tox res.
[/ QUOTE ]
Being a science tank with my invuln i had vahz arcs, fortunately dull pain was possibly my first 6 slotted power and the one i slotted first anyway and i dont recall major problems, its for additional hitpoints, taking alphas (often you could be quicker than a defender) or atleast having a heal while/before someone adds buffs/debuffs. I dont recall res to toxic from this.

(Also, I believe End requierments should be nerfed so that you can play all powersets perfectly fine without Stamina)

So if you can live without it during the lower levels (using greens perhaps?) you don't really need to take it later on?
that is..... one way of putting it...
Then again.. i actually played until my late 20's before i got temporary invulnerability, only having RPD, unyielding stance and invincibility and the other passives as defense..
and i did ok, so I guess your idea can work. But I'd like to add: I mostly soled.. and on heroic at that. In a team of 8, and on invincible, its another ballgame.
(im excused, because back in those days you couldnt use temp inv and unyielding at the same time... )

If I would name top 3 invulnerability powers then dull pain would be nr.3. Whether you take it is up to you, but I recommend it. (ps. it gives toxic res which helps when fighting vahzilok)

But why? Does it really do anything to justify that cept being a very good self heal? If I avoid Vaz and other tox foes, what benefit does dull pain have over greens (with the obvious exception of beeing unlimited and free)?
to put it blunt, I think youre underestimating the amount of damage you will recieve if you think stocking up on greens will be enough, vahz or not vahz.

It gives you a 20% enhanceable and 20% unenhanceable (so that's up to 60% total) boost to your HPs while it's up.
I'd call that justification.
Its 20% base heal enhanceable to 40% plus adds 40% in hp to your life bar.
Reasons to get it:
More hp, for resistance/def to cover.
Not all defenders heal and maybe you might need one before/whilst debuffs are being added.
Sometimes during the start of fight initiating its not safe for a defender to be that close to you to heal aura you.
No dullpain often seriously means less likely to survive alpha strikes.
Id put this before the passives if I were you. I have never seen a pure superman build do as well as tanks with dull pain yet, its usually too painful to watch.

Yep. As I noted in my guide, with Dull pain up and accolades, you can pull in over 3000HP at level 50.
I use it, and the difference in survivability is astonishing, especially at the high end.

Just tested it (I happened to be farming damage badge) 3212.7 HP for Hammerfall. Regen rate approx 22.5 hp per second with slotted health. Dull pain is simply one of the most important invul powers.

I keep thinking there is no res to toxic from dull pain. I checked herobuilder, red tomax's site and prima guide, they all say the same thing.
Dull pain = heal +hp
Resist Elements has res to toxic (which i was sure of).
Unyielding has res to toxic (which i was sure of).
The heals that do have res to toxic are on the other tanks and are slottable for resistances and thinking about maybe firetanks could do with a buff in that area.

Was thinking of starting a Inv/Nrg tank and have been experimenting to find a build. This is what I've come up with after reading post like this and playing with some really good tanks in the game (Never played a tank myself)
I would appreciate some input plus some answers to some questions I got from reading this thread.
(Note: This is just powers since I think it pointless to even think about slotting if you don't know what powers to take)
