How to make a good all-around healer...

Now that I've finally hit level 50 with my healer, it's time to respec the last time...
My idea of an all-around healer, is one who can heal, buff, travel fast and attack if needed. I've taken alot of time making the build perfect for me, and the result is the all-around-healer I've always wanted.

The powers and slots come in the order, I would take them in, if I were to make another healer.
You now get the final result, and please feel free to comment it.

I can only assume that your build isnt very good, since you need 3 recharge redux in Ressurect

Aside from that, i remember a discussion some time ago about pure healer builds. well, i hoped ED might make Empathy more interesting to play at late game, and promptly specced Chaplain up with all the healy goodness on the test server.

Simple fact is, that I never have to crazy heal at 50 like i did at The Hollows levels. ED hasnt globally nerfed everyone to the levels at which Empathy is a must.

I concluded the best thing a healer can do is be a buff bot. To warrant a place on a team, i'd say empaths MUST have manoeuvers and tactics, or at least assault and tactics. Fortitude needs to be up on 3 people at 1 time and you should push the team to engage things faster. Educate people that with you around, they can afford to be a little less cautious. i mean, im having fun when im healing, and dragging people out of the red. I dont have a lot of fun casting Fort on 3 people and CMing the squishies every 30 seconds.

I do agree with your philosophy about travelling fast. healers do very well when they can remain unseen at the front of the battle healing the tanks and the scrappers. Im an advocate of Hurdle, with 3 slots and superspeed. There is little you cant over come in CoH with that. Hover thrown in to keep you on your feet agains the annoying knockback and such...

In summary, i think your have created a pure healer, in as much as you have taken all the healing powers. Just not sure thats the 'ultimate' empath spec.

yeah, i miss the days of healing aura doing 500 points, heal other 1000 and ap 2.5k of healing

Builds similar to mine with the exception that im running 6 slotted leadership powers and no ancillery pool.

(by 6 slotted i mean 3 recharge and 3 tohit.def buffs)

[/ QUOTE ]Assault is more effective and useful than maneuvers, which is pretty crappy unless stacked with anouther one or some other +DEF.

but manouvers is looking pretty good with the buff its getting with I7... plus it rocks with vengence.

...And what buff?

A couple of things I'd change (this is just my personal opinion) 1) the extra slots in ressurect. But if there's nowhere else you want more slots, it's fine. 2) I'd drop stealth/grant invis and pick up Assault and Tactics. And Vengence if I could find the room.

I'd take Atomic Blast at 41, so the 46 slots in Neutrino wotsit could go into it instead, then take Power Buildup, CP and TF at 44, 47, and 49. Also, I agree with respect to Assault and Tactics, 10% more damage is 10% more to XP rates, however the Stealth/TP road to ghosting is also useful in a support build - up to you, I guess. Finally, nothing wrong with recharge reductions in Rez - sometimes things go wrong that not even the finest of empaths could deal with, and it's nice to get a whole team back on their feet sharpish (Especially when exemping to pre-travel power levels).

[/ QUOTE ]It's not 10% more damage, it's 18,75% damage buff, which means that if people have 3 damage SO's and any damage buffs on at all, the overall damage boost will be way less than 10%.

I have Assault, Tactics and Vengence atm... But I need SS, TP, Stealth and Fitness. You may disagree with the Fitness power bacause of RA, but I like being at full health/endurance all the time (especially endurance)...
Ressurect is always good to have fully slotted with recharge, as it CAN go wrong sometimes.

For the healing part; I'm a spam-healer, have always been a spam-healer, and will always be a spam-healer. If I see a teammate losing just a little health I'm there instantly. Have never had any complains about it, and I don't think I'll ever get it.

My SG-mates says I'm a topclass healer, and that's with the build I'm having atm., but it's getting improved now by replacing Leadership with SS. Not that Leadership is a bad powerpool (exept for Maneuvers), it's just that now that I'm level 50, the damage dealers do ALOT of damage already and if I get hit I'm still a bit squishy...

SS + Stealth makes me but a mere shadow in the heat of a battle... No more getting the attention from some level 50+ AV... *cough*Infernal*cough*

Hope this can answer some of the questions you might have...

Less than 10% perhaps, but still an increase in XP rates concordant with the assault buff. Plus it's very useful for a defender forced to solo.

There's nothing wrong with your build, it's just different from what I have. I team with alot of people who have tactics, so the combined bonus is nice. Especially in PvP.

But your build is obviously working for you, and if I had the space I'd probably want to go down the stealth route myself.

I'm not so sure about stamina myself, I run 3 toggles, while healing and attacking and I haven't ran out of endurance very often. I think I used one Catch a Breath on the SS TF I did last week. But that's personal preference. And I always have my epic endurance transfer power to back me up.

All in all though, a very nice support build.

Stealth is a good pool to get into, I used it for ages, but droped it in favour of some more attacks!
Added defence on a team is never a bad thing for a buff bot to bring ^_^

Standing out like a sore thumb as a defender can soon equal dead defender. I have stealth and superspeed as i am no good dead, hovering painfully slowly around a tanker or a scrapper getting aoe'd aint my style either. Those situations are wholly unnecessary. A tanker can herd to offer range for all of the team and keep all the aggro so that the said tanker is the only one requiring the odd heal but whether team members allow even the inclined tanker to achieve that is another matter.
What i am saying is with decent teaming i dont need to be endangered or even get knocked back, held, mezzed etc as things can be made safe rather than run in mash mash mash and fighting on the ever so dumb artificial intelligences terms. (Thats those times where everyones healthbars are traffic lights).

I personally would like to give up the teleport pool for leaderships pve because a) a team should stick together and i shouldnt have to tp myself to get to hard to reach places fast and b) the recall friend bit was taken for any of the scranking, blanking or blapping noobs in the pick up teams i was in.

Having said that though its great in the pvp zones. Fitness to take the following: tp pool (for escape artism), haste and ss (for recharge and mobility) and stealth (to keep myself from being instantly "the most wanted"). People do spread out in the pvp zones, it maybe that you cant stand still for a second so i'd imagine leadership pool the least a teams needs plus i dont see why my buffs arent giving more than enough to the team to cope without leaderships. I'd settle for the flyby, in out buffing of a defender.

This post is entitled "how to make a good all round healer" imho its not, to me slots have been wasted on absorb pain one heal enhancement easily is enough, the clearmind taken at 24 is just damn late, fort at 30 is late, stealth and ss are nice but dont outweigh the buffs or good strategy. Fort is so i have been informed better 3 recharge 3 defence slots as the tohit buffs make little difference and by the time you have taken it people should have woken up to accuracy slotting anyway. Sorry if i sound belligerent but I am not happy with the post title, if it said "Neo Kash empathy/radiation defender build" i'd of been ok.
