A steal at only 10 Prestige a post FFM; shall I assume the cheque is in the mail?

Something that really annoyed me was when we scraped together the salvage and cash for an advanced Database and after several long weeks, placed it in the base.
We then found out it was totatlly useless as it does not work with the basic mainframe and needs the advanced mainframe to work.
The choice left to us was to sell it, getting the prestige back but losig the large amount of salvage it took, or get the advanced mainframe that would take at least another 4 weeks of solid VG play.
Given that there appears to be no way of knowing the advanced mainframe was needed until AFTER we'd built it at the workbench, using all our salvage, this REALLY annoyed me
I'd be a godsend to be able to check some of the basics before you place it (or before you can afford it) to save a lot of hassle..

When salvage items are in your personal items tray, you can rightclick them and select info. (thats after they have been built though). For normally bought items they can be rightclicked from the editing menu even when you can't afford them.
Heh, well. Between the two remaining active members in my SG, we got power, control, and now a salvage room. I looked over the list once, furrowed my brow, closed the window, and made a mental note to sell the room back and buy something else later on.
What exactly do salvage rooms give an SG who arent interested in raids? :P
Telepads for quick access to trial zones, upgrades for the hospital to increase starting HP and end, mission computer for the Coalition missions (when those go in), the Tree of Life/Autodoc Inspiration store (that you can also SELL inspirations to), and of course whatever cool things go in with I7...
So yeah, non-raiding SG's pretty much need a workshop, too.
but what if u got a SG with 5 peeps and dont want a bigger SG?
we all have sum alts, but it still takes to much time, and to much prestige to get a workin base.
its like ur not playing to lvl up ur toon but only to get prestige for that dawm base.
imho it isnt fun like this.
the base concept looks like its only made for large SG's that have players that play a couple of hours "every day"
and if u dont got that ur base is years away...
why dont we want more in our SG? because all the things u lose in ur base wen peeps decide not to stay in the SG or wen they stop playing coh/v at all[ye it happens]
it feels like a huge hickup to get a base,so its not so much fun as i tought it would be,against the time u finally can start using it,its not funny annymore because of the long long time u needed to build it.
i already gave up on the base building ... its annoying like this!! and not fun!
its only for everyday playing big SG hardcoregamers, and then still it takes a verry long time...
i want to use it!! and not lvl up 10 toons to get a half not workin base in a year...

It's also worth remembering the test server. Last time I checked all your salvage got copied over with your char and new supergroups got 36mil prestige and all patterns unlocked. It's the perfect place to test whether something's worth building or not.

Some of the above have to be unlocked with SG badges first. (I can't recall correctly) Especially the healing badge so far has been proven nearly impossible to unlock for us. There are about 12-15 semiactive members but the amount needed to heal is too big or the badge is bugged.(wouldn't surprise me in the slightest). No progress at all last 2 months. I have to admit empaths arent very common in our SG right now.
Telepads are by far the most useful and easiest to get salvage item for any supergroup.
I just made some calculations on Prestige-cost for bases - came to some interesting results. I put it in a sepperate thread, you should check it out. It's just broad strokes based on theoretical maximums, but it helps to illustrate how ridiculously high the prices are set. I don't know WHAT kind of calculations they used to justify the prices, but it seems that somehow, an extra '0' snuck its way in at the end...
Like a number of things in CoX; Bases are a brilliant idea that is then given to a Committee to re-write.
This Committee looks at the worst excesses of the American Servers and sets the naming/prices accordingly.
With 4 semi-active players, we still can't afford power and control to our base without giving up a serious amount of RL.
See ED, Arena, PvP Zones.
