Yup, right with you on that.

well imo it aint (strictly), thats like saying heal other is a save the idiot power, its a dont get ambushed power, its a help someone continue to help you/themselves power, its a pbaoe attack prevention power (through kiting) its a somewhat selfless power that people playing "heroes" have.

Blaster : I'll pull.
*almost total teamwipe*
Tank (me): How about I pull this time?

It must be said I do wish more tankers would learn how to herd, at least gather of the spawn and ready for nuking.
Or when the blaster is pulling (which make more sense btw) where the tanker should be to intercept the mobs chasing and once again gather them into a nice dense group and ready for nuking.

I have seen some truly awful tanking and maybe, just maybe, if someone shouts "tank" at you, then maybe it's because you're not doing your job very well. It's just an idea and I'm just throwing it out there, largely to see what happens.

The tanker pulling first and herding before people attack is a lot lot neater. I dont understand why blasters pull at all 99.99r% of the time if there is a tanker with a taunt on the team. The snipe (or m30 grenade as the case maybe:P) and intercept has very few moments of necessity in the game. Id much rather taunt then make a nice dense group from day 1. The having to gain the aggro anyway makes the blaster pulling for me a complete waste of time and then i have a head in hands moment followed by then looking up to the heavens with spread open hands asking what have i done wrong in my life to deserve this.

I agree.

In my view there are 2 types of pulls, that I call spawn pulls and snipe pulls.

Snipe pulls are for removing one or 2 enemies from a spawn, these can be done by blasters, defenders, scrappers with confront or anyone with tp foe. Do not try with tanker taunt or an AoE. A badly executed snipe pull can turn into a spawn pull.

Spawn pulls are for moving a spawn ( or more ) to a better place for the team to fight them, ensuring that they are well packed for AoEs and that other spawns aren't accidentally aggroed during combat. Normally they are done around a corner. Tankers are best at these, but Dark and Rad defenders can also do these using their toggle debuffs with the right support, Dark are better at this than Rad as their one toggle has better damage mitigation. Spawn pulling is the primary reason for getting taunt on a tank.

If your blaster tries a Spawn pull and the tanker has to get the aggro back, then you are wasting a lot of time and adding a lot of risk to the blaster.

@Unthing ... Mostly on Union.

Depends on the tanker and depends on the blaster. Although I have never seen a tanker do a decent pull, not since I6 anyway.
If you're pulling around a corner, a fire tanker with blazing aura or stone tanker with mudpots who knows where to stand (i.e. right at the corner) will do the job.

But in retrospect I'll say that for pulling a spawn a tri-form PB or WS is king of the hill.

I aint sure there is a king for pulling the snipe and the effect of snipe on a mob is the same for all range ATs with a snipe power from what i have seen its just selecting what member of the mob to choose.

If on a T junction there is say a group of CoT on one corner and a group of another CoT on the other and because the corners are on the trunk of the T they therefore next to eachother a tanker is likely to pull both (especially running in:P) and perhaps then i'd want a pull and intercept.

I am not surprised, as a tanker i wont share a team with another tanker unless i know them very well now as i have had bad experiences of other tankers making a harsh mess of things making life harder than it needs to be and having me tank on terms that are not mine (i know i have accidentally done this once to one tanker and he has done the same to me pre50 days). Practically 100% of my game history though there is no other tanker in the team and i like it better that way and only against enemies that can nerf my firetankers blazing aura (3 acc now) to not gain any aggro will i consider it.

Everyone makes a hash of things once in a while but I see SO many tankers UTTERLY failing, obviously graduates of the Statesman school of tanking that I'm at the point where I don't trust a tanker to hold agro let alone pull.

I should point out I play on a lot of PuGs.

Ok, thought i'd try and play devils advocate here

I think its fair to say that not everyone who builds a tank is going to know how best to taunt, manage aggro, etc. Like anything else its a learning process, you don't just 'know' how to Tank because you're building one.
My question really i guess, is how often do you talk to Tankers that you meet and tell them what tips you've picked up, and offer advice? I'm sure there are plenty of Tanks (and other ATs) that don't even know they are doing anything wrong, unless someone gives some advice.

Just my thoughts, anyway

I should it's akin to being a defender or controller and being shouted at to 'HEAL!!!"

I agree with others who have said "Why not just scream back at em - SCRAP! or BLAST! " ?

I'll offer advice to anyone that asks and occasionally point out certain things to people. Like a stone tank the other night that was worried about taking on some sappers. I just pointed out rooted had end drain protection and he could happily tank several sappers with it on and he was amazed.

Most of the time you can tell the people want to be scankers or are just so arrogant that they don't listen anyway. Granite tanks seem the worst - "I can easily tank +5 AVs" is something I hear a lot and they refuse to believe you when you say that not dying is not the same as holding aggro and keeping the team safe....
