support controllers
Probably just uncommen as Trick Arrow isn't out that long and is not so popular...
G-Force
I've seen a lot of controllers, but I can't say I've seen an Ill/TA. Teaming is not exactly the same as "support". Any good controller will have a useful role to play in a team. If you really want to "support", then I would suggest taking /emp /FF or /sonic as secondaries. /kin is also very useful for teams but requires you to be more proactive. /rad also has a rez and a (small) heal, but it's really the buffs/debuffs which are great. /storm seems to be a good compromise between control/buffs/debuffs and great for PvP. From the few /TA I've seen, it seems to be a very control-oriented secondary, so it depends on what you're looking for. I'd say the primaries affect the level of "hard" vs "soft" control you have, as well as the amount (and type) of damage you can deal.
CoX 50s: <ill/rad> <ice/ice> <fire/kin> <grav/sonic> <ice/storm> <earth/kin> <kin/elec> <cold/psy> <thugs/dark> <fire/dark> <dark/elec> <night widow> <EM/ninj> <mind/icy>
I play Illusion/TA (L32), its a great paring, now what what the question?
Oh yes. I am going to write a guide to TA as a controller secondary, but I am holding of till I get to level 38 and have tried all the powers.
Ice arrow is the mainstay, I have 2 single target holds. I have it slotted with 2 acc and 3 hold duration.
Also very effective is disruption arrow, but I always make sure I have the mobs held before I use it as it draws arrow.
Flash Arrow is great but invisibility powers can leave it a little obsolete.
Poison Gas sucks (its actually bugged).
Its best to string arrow powers together then illusion powers so you do not have to redraw your bow too often.
I really should do something about this signature.
I was thinking that an Ill/TA controller would be a good support combo because you would be able to hold more foes and not need to heal as much but i was thinking of taking the healing power pool just in case. I am wanting a controller that assists by keeping foes away instead of healing which is why i am making a controller. I have already got a Ill/TA controller and dont really like the feal of it.
Thanks for the info PRAF68 i will take this into consideration
Is there any other combo which might give similer results?
Well you only get 1 extra single target hold, plus the nuke-hold at 38 which wipes your endurance.
Purple Sprite is more of a Blastoller really and solos as effectively as teams (and can also PvP). I don't have anything from the healing pool, I'm proud to be NOT A H3410R.
Try Grav/TA for a more uber-support-controlling controller.
I really should do something about this signature.
I have tried grav but dont realy like it much i am going to stick with Illusion but was wanting to change my secondaryfrom empathy to something else that dosent focus on heals. And i dont like the idea of having to hit the foe to heal and buff.

Although healing is arguably the main role of an empath, once you progress in levels, the buffs (Recovery/Regen Aura, Fort, CM, AB) become just as (if not more) important. And if you're still not sure, have you tried Force Field?
CoX 50s: <ill/rad> <ice/ice> <fire/kin> <grav/sonic> <ice/storm> <earth/kin> <kin/elec> <cold/psy> <thugs/dark> <fire/dark> <dark/elec> <night widow> <EM/ninj> <mind/icy>
That's only kinetics. Rads heal doesn't need to hit, and FF and sonic are basically team support sets. Empathy is, as you say, boring (and you are expected to prop up all the lousy PUGs).
I really should do something about this signature.
i have been looking at the guides and am thinking of eather empathy or radiation, but can't decide between the two. so any more advice you have on these two would be great thanks.
Go Rad.
I really should do something about this signature.
Could you explain why plz
I would certainly suggest rad. As PRAF said, in low-level teams being an empath is a total pain. Rad will also be a bit frustrating at first since people will want to kill your debuff anchors first, but you will minimise the damage that your team is taking (and help them take down mobs), as opposed to healing them. And in the late game, there's no comparison, rad debuffs are great when you start facing AVs. I know you said you wanted a team build, but with ill/rad you can also quite comfortably solo if you ever feel like it.
CoX 50s: <ill/rad> <ice/ice> <fire/kin> <grav/sonic> <ice/storm> <earth/kin> <kin/elec> <cold/psy> <thugs/dark> <fire/dark> <dark/elec> <night widow> <EM/ninj> <mind/icy>
ok thanks for all the advice guys
What about storm that has some slows and a heal, and some other stuff, lots of knock back I was thinking this might be good as it keeps the foees away which is what i was mainly wanting to do, im not very good at buffing i always get distracted especialy in fights which is when i need to use them most, so i thought this might work well. Any reason why not? It hassent been mentioned much and i have a low lvl defender that has it and it seems to work well.
Illusion / Rad is very, very nasty. Although you can't buff Phantom Army goons you can debuff the guys they are hitting for much the same effect. Thats nasty.
I don't know if I'd call it "support" but you'd certainly be very useful on a team and very very good at soloing post-18.
I've a level 41 Illusion / Storm. Basically Storm is a bit of a box of tricks. You'll be slowing em down with Snow Storm & Freezing rain and Hurricane is situationally brilliant for fun herding of mobs, especially in confined spaces when you can keep em upended against a wall (oo-er).
Nothing like the feeling of dropping Phantom Army, Snow Storm, Spectral Terror, freezing rain and Thunderstorm for flashy effects. Ok your Endurance is gone after all of that but you won't need to do anything, your pets will do it for you.
You've plenty of room to experiment with Illusion Storm too as theres a few powers that aren't great but can be lots of fun.
Imo debuffing secondaries work better on Controllers than the buffing ones. You can stay focused on the enemy the whole time and at the same time reduce the incoming damage your team is taking. Rad and Storm's defence debuff helps you hit with your AoE control also.
You mean Rad, Storm and TA's defense debuff surely.
I really should do something about this signature.
I was thinking of making a new controller for using in teams, a Illusion/trick arrow but there dosent seem to be any posts on this build. I was wondering if it was because it was a bad build or is it just uncommon. I was also thinking of taking the medicen pool, for the healing and res. So any advice?
