Placate - what is it exactly?
Its a stalker power which makes them invis again for a short while and stops u attacking them. Running away doesnt usually do anything so u may as well use any AoE's (i think those hit) or get any heals ready.

Ranged, Foe Placate, Self Stealth/Hide
Allow you to trick a foe to no longer attack you. A Successful Placate will also Hide you. This Hide is very brief, and offers no Defense bonus, but it will allow you to deliver a Critical Hit or an Assasins Strike. However, if you attack a Placated Foe, he will be able to attack you back.

In effect, the straight-forward stalkers placate is a single-target close-ranged power, that forces you to be unable to target whoever used "placate" for a while. It has the added effect of placing the stalker in the 'hidden' state too, which means they can follow straight up with a critical hit or assassin strike if they intend to keep fighting.
The ?/ninjitsu stralkers have another placate, too. An AoE placate, only you'll see that one used far less often, and although i've never had it, its supposed to have a short activation time too.
The Valentines event at the moment will grant you a very scary temporary power called "Nectar" which is a combined AOE Placate and Confuse.
I can see that being nasty in PvP in a big fight - pop a bunch of Acc Insps and then drop it on bunch of players in a massive fight. I expect that noone will realise for at least one or two attacks.
Should be pointed out that, more often than not, a quick smack to the chops will normally end up negating the Placate effect if your animation starts around the same time as the Stalker's.

Except I don't think you can actually use it in PvP.

Can't see why not. Perhaps if you did the mission with a high level character, and then go to a lower level PvP Zone you'd be out of luck as it counts as a power gained at your upper level, and hence not available when malefactor'd/exemplar'd to lower levels?

You can use it in pvp, i managed to hit a few stalkers with it(wasted 6 insights to make sure i could hit them), although they ran pretty fast from me after noticing.
I hang around in PVP on occasion on Defiant some nights and I quite enjoy it, but I've been bugged by a villian only power for a while now; I think it's a stalker / brute power (possibly both, since it's only happened to me in melee or short range) and it stops everything hostile I do towards an enemy. Which a) is damned cool b) scary when you get Placated and you suddenly get jumped by lots of sharp protuding objects by magic.
I'm not whining, I just wondered if it's a hold, or sleep, or whatever and if there's anything possible that negates it's effects (which I think are pretty short anyway).
